Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

 photo Monday4_zps8171d750.jpg

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. One weekend closer to Spring.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Heading down to right around 32 before rising to 45. Enjoy it while it lasts, we’re told, because Tuesday is the release date of Big Chill II: Return of the Vortex.

    Joy joy.

Have a great week Meese. Stay warm out there.

  2. It is 30 degrees here on its way down to 10. Overnight low will be below zero as iriti’s Polar Vortex arrives. Wind chill advisory for tomorrow morning with chills 28 below.

Kids are home from school today and I am going to declare it a holiday-from-clients. I have some accounting work that I started on yesterday than needs to be finished up and I think if I am really quiet no one will know I am in my office!

I am going to post Martin Luther King Jr’s speech to the Memphis sanitation workers in a little while. All I can find is a snippet (still looking for the full speech) but I do have the transcript. It is interesting to me that now that being poor is not just something that racial minorities have to worry about, it is getting attention from the Republican Party. I wonder if they are realizing that white voters (their base!) are probably in the 15% who live below the poverty line … or just that they are trying to appeal to independents who are not as filled with hatred for the poors as their base. “Look! ‘We Care’!” They are not going to do anything about it but they have to wage the PR war.

p.s. I am loving the latest on Chris Christie. You have to believe that he was expecting to hold court and dole out favors at the Super Bowl being held in his state in a couple of weeks. Now he has become Governor Toxic.  I noticed that Rudy Giuliani is the latest to rise to his defense. It makes me sad to think that these are the guys who were at one time charged with prosecuting crimes for the federal government. You wonder what kind of paybacks they extracted during their time in office.

events are being held around the country

    http://mlkday.gov/about/serveo

You know it doesn’t make much sense

There ought to be a law against

    Anyone who takes offense

At a day in your celebration

‘Cause we all know in our minds

That there ought to be a time

    That we can set aside

To show just how much we love you

And I’m sure you would agree

    It couldn’t fit more perfectly

Than to have a world party

On the day you came to be

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    I just never understood

How a man who died for good

Could not have a day that would

Be set aside for his recognition

    ‘Cause it should never be

    Just ’cause some cannot see

The dream as clear as he

That they should make it become an illusion

    And we all know everything

That he stood for time will bring

For in peace our hearts will sing

    Thanks to Martin Luther King

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

Why has there never been a holiday, yeah

    Where peace is celebrated

    All throughout the world

    The time is overdue

For people like me and you

Who know the way to truth

Is love and unity to all God’s children

It should never be a great event

And the whole day should be spent

    In full remembrance

Of those who lived and died for the oneness of all people

    So let us all begin

We know that love can win

Let it out don’t hold it in

Sing it loud as you can

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday to you

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

    Ooh yeah

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

We know the key to unify all people

Is in the dream that you had so long ago

That lives in all of the hearts of people

    That believe in unity

We’ll make the dream become a reality

    I know we will

Because our hearts tell us so

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday

  4. The The March starts at 10 a.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Academy. The March is 2.75 miles and starts at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy, travels up Martin Luther King Drive, and ends at Pittman Sullivan Park, all on the City’s historic East Side.

p.s. Won’t it be fun when everyone has to figure out how to do accent marks when they type “President of the United States Julián Castro” in a few years. 🙂

  5. Diana in NoVa

moment in Northern VA, but tomorrow, of course, the really cold weather arrives. Also, four-letter-word is supposed to fall so today we’re loading up on firewood, wine, and frivolous stuff. Dearly Beloved may have to drive me to my dentist appointment tomorrow afternoon–I’m not a good driver at the best of times, but when the roads are slippery it’s just futile for me to attempt to go anywhere.

Gym this morning, followed by gathering tax materials ready, and, it’s to be hoped, some writing this afternoon.

Daughter-in-law will take our precious girl to day care this morning, and her father will take her tomorrow, so I have two days off. Feeling my age more and more, to the point I’m now beginning to think of a house without stairs. We’re in a split-level, so the stairs aren’t all that bad, but even so, I seem to get slower and slower.

Hope everyone will have a good day!

Eating breakfast on my couch, don’t have to leave for the MLK march till after 8. March this morning, then errands & maybe more walking this afternoon. Don’t hate Austin because we’re having great weather — the cedar trees are making us pay, and our highs drop off by 10 degrees each day this week, by Friday the high will be 43. But today will be mid-70s & sunny.
