Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF! Hope it has been a good week for everyone. Snowy, blustery and incredibly cold here. Winds to 50 mph, wind chills below zero (almost unheard of in these parts).

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

IS IT SPRING YET?!?!?!

18 degrees with a wind advisory until noon for winds of 50 mph and wind chill below zero. Also it snowed last night and the world is a frozen mess.

Brrr. That is all. And yeah, I know some of you walked to school barefoot in weather like this, but ’round these parts this is run & hide weather. Doing just that and working from home today.

was working at a Lowe’s in Cheyenne, Wyoming yesterday when a customer’s gun went off accidentally and shot her in the arm.

She’s ok, just in a lot of pain. I guess she took a bullet for freedom or whatever.

  3. It is -5 degrees here and is expected to get up to 15 degrees. Tomorrow we have light snow then we head into three days when the temperatures will not get above 0 and will fall as low as 20 below on Sunday night.

On Sunday, the Green Bay football team will be hosting a playoff game and the gametime temperatures will be about 10 below with a wind chill around 20 below. I suspect that more than just their Tundras will be freezing. And the NFL is wondering why the game is not sold out! (As it sits right now, the game will be blacked out in Green Bay and Milwaukee … not Madison).

A year ago today this happened. I thank the meese for the warm welcome and the chance to sit quietly by the calm waters of the moose pond and rest my weary soul. Having a safe place to be an Obama-bot and to root for Democratic Party success has been a Big Huge Deal for me.

    See all y’alls later!!

High only supposed to be 22 degrees by mid-afternoon. We had drizzling rain right up until the temps dropped to below freezing late yesterday, then the snow started. So, we have a thin layer of snow on top of a layer of black ice.

    What could possibly go wrong?

and still snowing – wind chill -14

Plow guy just came for the third time – hubby is wending his way to NYC – no buses left until 10 minutes ago so he had to wait at the bus station from 6:30 AM till now – it’s a commuting nightmare – trains are delayed.

Our local ski resort at Hunter mountain is proclaiming “Happy Powder Day”

We’ve received a total of 14-16″ of powder so far from this storm and we’re expecting another 1-2 inches this morning! Snow will taper off by midday today.  We are opening at 9:00am with 45 trails serviced by 7 lifts.  We’re expecting to add several trails once morning patrol has a chance to inspect them.

The sun is now shining on a frigid white landscape washed with blue shadows. The wind is beginning to blow the snow off the trees. Good day to stay inside, and that’s exactly what I plan to do! My son’s workday has a two-hour delay, so he’s going to take Miss Pink Cheeks to day care.

We had more snow than the forecasters predicted. They said it would start at midnight and turn to rain by morning and we’d get an inch, if anything.  Well, it started at 3 p.m. yesterday. It kept snowing until 10 p.m., sometimes in huge, fat, white flakes. Leesburg, a few miles down the road from here, reported four inches of snow–here where I live, we had three. However, even half an inch is enough to send people into a panic here. Thank Goddess, we’ve got all the essentials–beer, wine, chocolate, coffee, more chocolate, “bathroom tissue,” chocolate, and bread.

Our teensy little snow would be nothing to Jan and Denise, who are used to the real thing. Thing is, we rarely see snow down here (aside from Snowmageddon four years ago). My daughter-in-law’s parents live in Long Island, which, I understand, is pretty well socked in. They just returned from a vacation in Panama–bet they’ll be freaking out.

Everyone stay safe and warm today!

eleven degree NYC with a wind chill making it minus five.  Going up to seventeen then back down to zero with a wind chill that will make it really feel like winter! Looks like a heavy coffee day. Am getting ready to go out and, of course, can’t find my boots.

At the moment anyway, we’re expecting snow or ice or both tomorrow sometime which will at least be Saturday and after I’ve done my weekly grocery shopping.  My “good xian” neighbor keeps putting the cat out in weather like this – OK, sure, the cat has a fur coat. The cat still can’t drink ICE!  I don’t wish to make an uncomfortable situation into a downright nasty one so I just feed the cat on my carport, give the neighbor’s kids/grandkids freeby flea stuff I sometimes get – and grumble a lot.

    Still clearing off my desk from the holidays plus getting ready for open registration next week (and working on finalizing the Summer and Fall 2014 semesters).  I’ll try to check back later.  Have the good Friday and the good weekend.  I’m heading for coffee (can’t say “moar coffee” ’cause I haven’t had ANY yet).  {{{HUGS}}}

blah blah blah, it’s too cold for this Texan, etc – y’all who live where it’s actually cold are probably tired of hearing me be shocked when it freezes here

I wrote a diary about the Austin Children’s Shelter:

crap, my race in in 6 weeks, I need to train!

After reading everyone’s winter weather report I feel very fortunate to live in the PNW. It was twilight all day yesterday, but no snow and or ice to contend with makes the damp and gloom more appealing!
