Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Happy New Year Moosekind! How is your head this morning?

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Well – hubby and I are now officially old. 😉 We watched the ball drop (bravo Sonia Sotomayor) then watched the “show” broadcast on ABC that used to be hosted by Dick Clark. The only performer we recognized was Billy Joel – other than that we had no clue who any of the entertainers were or what they were singing – though it was clear from watching the partiers that they knew the words to everything.

So after trying to watch for a bit – we happily went to sleep, after giving thoughts and thanks for the hard working folks from the NYC Dept. of Sanitation who have to clean up all that confetti.

  3. It is -1 degree(s) here on its way up to 12 degrees. The snow has stopped … we got about an inch, maybe two, yesterday.

I turned off my alarm clock and did not put my coffee on automatic. And surprisingly I slept until about 5:15. It will be interesting to see how my body reacts to that extra sleep.

I am going to putter around reading the news and tidying up my work stack to get a good running start at the new work year. When I flipped my Moon Calendar over to 2014 (I have this one), I noticed that there was a new moon this morning just after 5am my time. New moons are great for fresh starts and fresh starts for a new calendar year sound like a great combination. After I flipped the calendar over, I also noted that at the beginning of November we are waxing up to, including, and a couple days past election day November 4th. That is good news for keeping the energy high.

Have a great day, all y’alls.

today, whereas yesterday was brilliantly sunny. In fact I saw sunlight on the strawberry plants blooming cheekily in their three-tier strawberry bed when I looked out the family room window yesterday. What gives?  It’s true the bed is in a sunny spot, protected by the back wall of the house, but still–bright green leaves in December?

No early-morning duty today, so will spend it tidying my office and catching up with e-mail. Tomorrow, it’s back to the same old grind.

I’m freaking out over Justice Sotomayor’s blocking of the contraceptive coverage part of the ACA, at the request of a group of nuns. Why does the Roman church want to deny the rest of us our coverage? If the nuns don’t want to use their free coverage, no one would force them to do so, but I have a BIG problem with their telling non-Catholics like my daughters that they can’t have it either. Grrr! I thought Justice Sotomayor was supposed to be a liberal, but it seems that she may be a reverse Souter.

The forecast for tonight is cold, freezing rain (yet again) and 2-5 inches of snow, or maybe more.  Who knows!  Need to get more de icer and see if I can figure out something to use to cover the windshield.  Not sure if plastic bags, which I have lots of, is the way to go.

So far 2014 is off to a dozy start…..I’m not asleep, but can’t stay awake long enough to write a comment. Silly me,I expected something to be different 🙂

    Happy New Year everyone!

It’s going to get up to the 60s here this afternoon, but we’re having a cold front tonight & it’ll be cold tomorrow.

Plan for the day: eat black eyed peas, do some exercise. Got some Dr Who on the dvr. And write exhortations to exercise on my 2014 calendars. (swim! goes on every Saturday, since that’s the part of triathlon I truly suck at)
