Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Headed for a high of 37. Warmer at home, I think.

In town for some meetings this morning, then the train home. More meetings near home tomorrow morning, then cross training in the afternoon because next week I’m covering for three (count ’em THREE) other people.

Also Thursday evening we’re celebrating Christmas at our house. Then Friday hubs has surgery on his hand.

    I’m exhausted in anticipation!

  2. It is 12 degrees in Madison WI this morning on its way up to 33 degrees. No snow in the forecast. This will be the first time we have been above freezing in quite a while.

I have made it halfway through my too-busy week. I have two days of too-busy left and then Friday should be easier.

Stay out of trouble, all y’alls!

surgeries for dear ones in the Meese families are smooth and painless.  Just realized I have to go back to the Post Office. You can probably hear my sigh all over the land. Hope everyone is warm and safe.

across the river from Washington, DC.

Good news this morning–Mark Herring’s lead in the attorney general race has increased to the point where it would be political death for Obenshain to throw the election to the Virginia House of Delegates.

Enrollment in Obamacare is up, not down.

There was an article in The Washington Post this morning about the heads of high-tech companies having a meeting with the president at the White House. NSA’s spying is damaging both U.S. credibility and the sacred “bottom line.” No country wants to buy software or services from a country that has spies looking at everything.  You can read the article here:

Must get all the presents wrapped and out of the house before Friday. We are still trying to get the place tidied up.

Off to get the day started. Iriti, best wishes on your husband’s hand operation. Everyone have a good day!

Last night was really fun. If you get a chance to see Neil deGrasse Tyson speak, I recommend it. He stayed for q&a after — but about half the audience left, I thought — they were getting in the autograph line. Since it was 11pm, I skipped that part, thought I really wanted him to sign my book.

Between not getting to bed till midnight, and my really painful foot, I don’t think I slept last night. So why am I up? Because I was up anyway. Calling the doc at 9, to see if he can do something or if I have to see a podiatrist. (pain=adreneline=no sleep)

I found out yesterday that my best friend has to have brain surgery, probably this week. She’s had 2 seizures that involved loss of consciousness, and there’s a lesion 1 cm in on her frontal lobe. I don’t know if I’ll get by the hospital today to see her – I saw her yesterday. I have tests scheduled in the professional building next door on Thursday so I will go for sure then. My tests are: looking at the thyroid nodules since it has been 2 years, a kidney ultrasound, and chest xray. Yay. And I suppose I should schedule that other test.

I brought queso fixings for today’s birthday thing. I don’t know if I’ll end up eating any.

Earworm – I’m desperately playing all the U2 I know in my head to keep myself upright. Spanish Eyes & Love and Peace or Else are in heavy rotation.

Autocorrect likes mooserinos but changes “mooser” to mouser — had to quotes to get the ghost of Steve jobs to let it be.

Seems the phone works better than the computer to access this blog.

Got my last batch of finals graded. Two pleasant surprises, three unpleasant surprises, and nine zacly what I spectds. Oh well… Another set of young minds forever warped by bubbas spin on math.

I woke up at 7:45 am and had an 8:00 PT appointment scheduled…..yikes! The therapist got the sleepy in sweats me today. This was the last visit so now I can resume my pool schedule, and that will be most welcome.

Now to sew that second, seemed like a good idea a the time, Christmas quilt.
