Thursday All-Day Check-in for the Herd

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

  1. I was struck by a comment from Bill O’Reilly which really sums up the whole ACA issue and also shows why the punditating on Obamacare is so awful. He asked “Just who is the Affordable Care Act affordable for?”.

The income inequality gap is so great in America that those at the top can no longer see those on the bottom, or even in the middle. When you are a wealthy pundit, you literally cannot see who the ACA would help. They don’t dine with you, they don’t live in your neighborhoods, they don’t go to school with your kids. The ACA helps everyone, not just those who are paying less for health insurance or who are now covered by Medicaid but every single person who pays for health care. The little reported study that came out last week showing a drop in health care costs since the ACA was passed is money that everyone who uses health care saves. Hospital costs came down and will come down even more as hospitals don’t have to tack on the cost of unpaid ER visits to everyone’s bill.

And everyone benefits from a healthier America.

Obama Derangement Syndrome (which is actually Democratic President Derangement Syndrome) has blinded the right-wing to reality. Willfully overlooking the benefits of the ACA will not make more people want to vote for Republicans … it will simply endear you to the ever shrinking echo-chamber on the right.

Look at this!! Young people think things will be just fine:

“Only 25 percent of 18-to-34 year olds say that the new law is a failure, compared to more than four in 10 in any other age bracket,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Seven in 10 younger Americans think the current problems faced by Obamacare will eventually be fixed.

Those kids will vote for Democrats because they will wonder what the heck the old fogeys in the GOP are talking about. Their reality does not match the punditry.

    Happy thanksgiving to everyone.

Gotta make some cheese grits and Waldorf salad along with the turkey.  My parents are bringing the rest.  The kids are super stoked  and my daughter made place cards.  Even checked to see if my parents were bringing the dog and If she needed a place card too.

Cold and sunny here.  Great turkey trot day.

Hope you all have a great day!

It’s still in the 30s now, I’ll wait to go uncover my plants.

I just watched Richard Engel participating in a 5K with some soldiers in Afghanistan – he’s adorable. I slept in, nibbling on some cheese & crackers.

Since my brother is on call (he’s a computer guy for a retailer — not tech support, but still…) we’re not getting together. So I’m just hanging out.

Haven’t budged from the couch all day. Loved all the comet stuff on NASA TV.  Now I’m clearing out the dvr. I had tater tots & more buffalo tofu for dinner. And an individual chocolate cheesecake.

    How was your day?
