Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

29 degrees and still too dark for me to see how bad the roads are – have to go to school today but doubt many students will show up – most have headed home for the holiday.

  2. Four Adults Charged With Helping Cover Up The Steubenville Rape Case

The aftermath of the Steubenville rape case, which involved several high school football players assaulting an unconscious victim, has stretched on for months. After two teens were found guilty of rape in March, a grand jury was convened to investigate whether any adults knew about the assault and attempted to keep it quiet. The grand jury made its first arrest last month, jailing a Steubenville school official who was accused of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.

In a news conference on Monday morning, DeWine explained that four additional adults are now facing similar charges. In addition to the superintendent, an elementary school principal, a wrestling coach, and a volunteer football coach were also charged – the first two for failing to report child abuse, and the last for facilitating the underage drinking and delinquency of a minor.

The school superintendent is being charged with a felony.

This part makes me sad, though:

The high school’s beloved head coach, who was accused of telling football players that he would protect the two rapists from any repercussions, is not facing any consequences from the grand jury.

What needs to change is the culture of protecting sports stars from the repercussions of their actions. It is not just Steubenville Ohio but college athletes and professional athletes. A stronger message would have been sent if the “beloved coach” would have been included in the charges filed. And they don’t do any favors to these kids when they tell them that the rules (and laws) don’t apply to them.

fall more heavily later today. I’m at my son’s house, waiting for the princess to wake up so I can feed and dress her and get her to day care. They’re planning a big feast today.

Hope to get my shopping done this morning before the weather gets too bad. Still lots to do but I’ve made inroads.

I wish men were taught to respect women but as long as we live under patriarchy, which teaches that women are of no value, things will not change.

Hope everyone will have a good and safe day!

feel shame about rape of women by other men. It’s their kind who do it, but not their kind at all. I don’t think women have anything comparable, where it’s institutionalized that some of our sex quite often do something that the rest of us find abominable.

I wonder if we could capture and channel their shame. Men Against Rape activism could be a powerful force.

Come to think of it, why doesn’t it exist already?

There are reports of snow flurries in neighboring counties. We have a freeze warning for tonight. A freeze warning.

Anyway, I’m just eating breakfast & drinking tea. Today will probably be busy. Then I have to go home & cover my plants. Earworm: Called Out in the Dark by Snow Patrol.

I haven’t seen that description in the weather widjet before, so I’m curious. I hope the flowers and greens I left in the garage overnight are ok.

I have a busy but fun day planned getting the house ready for T Day. I’m excited to have time with our grandson. RonK found his old harmonica books so he bought new harmonicas for both of them. Fortunately harmonicas  are easy to listen to while in learning to play mode!
