Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Chilly here this morning, headed for a high of not a heckuva lot warmer. But at least I’ve gotten some use out of my ‘new’ (for which read ‘new to me’) 70’s vintage Irish wool cape. I have decided I love looking like the female lead in a Sherlock Holmes remake.

    Vendor meeting today. Joy joy.

    Happy Wednesday, Meeses!

Moosing around all day – have no special plans except to be lazy indoors. Ignoring housework, and other chores, will probably do some non-academic reading and spend some time in MMOG world.

Twenty-six chilly degrees out there right now, gonna be 48 for a high, they say. I say “BRRRR”. Pumpkin’s right here with me, as he’s a heat-seeker. Last night, BOTH cats were lying under the woodstove. lol

Delmarva Power guy is coming to install a new programmable thermostat this morning. Fortunately, I don’t have to deal with it, though I will be the one to learn how to program it and teach everyone else.

Warm enough today (and not going to a function where I’ll be talking to the agency head) to wear capris & sandals. If I had a longer walk between the building & the car, maybe not, but today & tomorrow are going to be nice. Blue norther during the day on Friday — 60s in the morning dropping to 40s before I leave work. So, I’m wearing capris while I can.

Dem club meeting tonight, officer elections. I said I’ll be secretary again if no one else wants it. I should get my bed today – I guess I should check my messages to see if they called yesterday.

Yahoo mail has “improved” themselves out of usability, so I’m going to switch to something else. Not loving g-mail either, but it is better than Yahoo. What do y’all use?

earworm: acoustic version of Just Say Yes no idea why such a romantic song gets stuck in my head, but there it is

    We did eviscerate the IT budget – I devoutly hope the IT director comes to us every month to ask for the rest but I doubt it.  We now have, and because we didn’t fund his requests will continue to have, holes in our security big enough to drive a Mack truck through if you know where to look.  I don’t, but I have the utmost confidence that others do and can only hope the IT guy manages to keep those holes hidden until he can get them plugged.  That finished the budget – the only thing left is to get it passed.  If we’re lucky that will happen tomorrow night but it will take 10 votes to do it on one reading.  If we don’t have the 10 votes, we’ll have to (expensively) hold 2 special Quorum Court meetings to “read it” – and on the 3rd we can pass it with 8 votes.  We know we have 8.  We are hoping to pick up 2 more.  Hold the good thought.  {{{HUGS}}}

Last night’s frost finished off the last of the fuchia’s. They always look so nice in the fall until that happens…now it’s time for them to go.
