Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF! Hope it has been a good week for everyone.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

What a week. Glad it’s ending.

33 here, headed up to near 60 after barely breaking 40 yesterday. It’s whiplash weather, but I’ll take the warmth.

  2. 37 degrees here on its way up to 51. Rain and mid-to-upper 50s for the next few days.

I am also glad this week is nearly over (still have to get through today). Too busy … bordering on frantic. I haven’t had time to catch up because of unplanned additions to my schedule.

By the way, watch out for a new nasty virus going around called CryptoLocker. It is ransomware and what it does is encrypt your files and make you pay a ransom ($300) to get the decryption key. The thieves even set up a customer service website:

“It’s been a disaster for many of the people hit with it,” said Lawrence Abrams who has been tracking the spread of this infection on BleepingComputer.com

Within the past few days, the criminal gang behind CryptoLocker created a site for victims who need help making their required extortion payments.

“These guys have some big cojones,” said security expert Brian Krebs, who writes the blog KrebsOnSecurity.

Read about the virus and PLEASE do not click on anything you don’t recognize.

    they’ve promised a high of 56.

Spent yesterday writing my Sunday piece – which is a rant – or at least part of it is, against Richard Cohen’s “gaggers”.

I took the whole disgusting thing personally and needed to get my fury off pounding the keyboard.

    I feel much better now.

Heading off to school – today will be pretty heavy fare — covering modern day witchhunting around the world – the killing of children, women and the elderly accused of witchcraft.  Second class we deal with rape and violence against woman – sigh – it’s always a pretty traumatizing class since we have students who are survivors -though they have the option to walk out or not attend.

after a sunny blue start. It’s supposed to be warmer today, 55 or 60 F. It might even rain tonight, which would be great. We need it.

I’m at my son’s house, waiting for Miss Pink Cheeks to finish breakfast so I can dress her and take her to her day care, which is more like a preschool now. She’s so engrossed in watching “Little Bill” on Nick Jr. that I don’t know whether breakfast will be eaten!

Denise, that sounds an interesting class. I’ve always said women, wolves, and Witches have had a bad rap. If I could I’d decree that every girl child should have martial arts training to instill confidence, strength, and the ability to fight back against, or at least deflect, violence. And if I could, I’d start a new country and encourage all the women in Afghanistan to move there.

Hope everyone will have a good day!

Not nearly as cold today – didn’t even wear a jacket. There’s so much going on on town this weekend, and I’m staying far away from all of it.

Still pensive from the movie. And Amanda Palmer’s twitter feed is having a big discussion about feminism, which is cool. Hey, have y’all heard about this telethon on Monday:  http://www.ladypartsjustice.co

Lizz Winsted & some other awesome people are doing a telethon to benefit the Lillith Fund & other groups trying to keep abortion accessible in Texas. Just totally awesome.

So, there’s way too many thoughts in my head this morning. And wow does my forehead itch.

I seem to be feeling the west coast time difference even more this year. I’m just waking up but most of you are well into your day’s work.

but we’re headed into a few days of rain. Think we’re headed off to the farmers market this morning, and probably a quick stop at Costco for eggs and butter.

It was a long and frustrating Budget Committee meeting last night listening to people whose businesses don’t need anything other than a QuikBooks application and maybe some email blathering on about how the County doesn’t really need all that firewall security hardware and software, the IT guy doesn’t really need the analyst and programmer he’s been asking for since 2012 (and every time he has to ask us for money to pay for outside IT, these guys ask why he can’t do it in-house – his reply of “not with the staff I have” doesn’t register of course), doesn’t need to upgrade to software and hardware that the vendors support, and doesn’t need to pay for all those software licenses – and yapping about can’t do this AND give raises, yadda, yadda, effin’ yadda – paying no attention whatsoever when it’s pointed out to them that the budget including EVERYTHING every department has asked for INCLUDING raises and all the IT stuff, is $12 million less than our expected revenue (minus 10% safety factor) which means we can do everything we need to do, balance the budget, have $12 million available for “just in case” – and will probably get another couple of million when that safety factor comes in!  Rant over.  For now.

    C.C. (or whoever) bless the meeses and the quiet purple pond where ranting is OK.  {{{HUGS}}}
