Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Meeses

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

  1. GOP House Passes Bill To Delay Obamacare As Gov’t Shutdown Nears

Saturday around midnight, the GOP-led House voted to pass three amendments to the continuing resolution which would repeal Obamacare’s medical device tax (248-174), delay the law by one year (231-192) and make sure U.S. troops are paid (423-0). The stopgap bill would keep the government funded through Dec. 15.

At the last minute, party leaders decided to add a special “conscience clause” delaying for one year an Obamacare rule that non-church employer health plans cover contraception without co-pays for female employees.

A senior Senate Democratic aide said it was “highly unlikely” that the Senate would return on Sunday. The White House also issued a statement on Saturday saying that the president would veto the the GOP’s bill. House Democrats were furious with their Republican colleagues.

House adjourns until Monday at 10am. No Sunday sessions are planned for either House of Congress.

    72. Hope it’s a good, fair  day for everybody.

When I saw Jan’s image of the penguins I immediately wondered who would feed them at national zoos during the shutdown. Am sure their keepers will go in anyway.

Also wondering who will be blamed for the shutdown.

Hoping that all those who need help will be able to get it.

and conspiracy theorists show their asses.

Here’s hoping that some independents will wake up and “smell the sewer-aroma” coming from the halls of Congress.

That’s how I feel this morning about elected officials who are willing to shut down the government and tank the economy based simply on their delusional and bitter hatred of both the POTUS and everything Democrats stand for.

    I need stronger coffee.

    Ugh!

and tweeted my heart out. It was very cathartic.

I must have been on fire, cuz I was answered and retweeted by the @UPPastryPlate. ::pats self on back, falls over::

I clicked on something I shouldn’t have. Memo to self: If it has the word Java in it, leave immediately.

In the process of housekeeping after the Dreaded Loop subsided, ideleted the bank account file that includes everything after March. I even emptied the recycle bin.

My backup isn’t up to date because every time I think I’ve backed up, I haven’t, and eventually I forget to go in with a hammer, chisel and backhoe and force the backup to the external drive.

I may have to do a system restore to last Friday. Will that find the bank account? I don’t know. Will I have to reenter 6 months of data from my bank statements? I don’t know.

    God, I hate malicious hackers.

Just looked at the file. It has transactions back to 2002 and I don’t know how to cut it off. But that’s a housekeeping task for another day.

cool-down temperature wise.  High of 74 today but back into the low 80’s by mid-week.  By the time the middle of October rolls around I will have been without TV for 5 weeks thanks to an amazingly inept provider.  I think I’m glad to be without.  It’s depressing enough to read online about the DC doings so it is a blessed relief not to have tv news to watch.  Thankfully, Hulu Plus has kept me occupied and the iPad in constant use.

Employees who had been held prisoner in bad jobs so they could keep health benefits are now able to move on. That will make some low wage, lousy working condition employers unhappy.

After sorting a few things in the basement I found a way to get the new freezer in place with less disruption of accumulated stuff…..so then I propped my leg up and started reading The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. The fantasy world he has created is most imaginative, but the political story line is all to familiar! This is the first of a planned 10 book series so I hope he writes fast enough for me to read the last book 🙂

Eating breakfast & watching Melissa Harris Perry. Man, I am tired. And I didn’t really do that much yesterday (workout at ungodly hour of the morning, breakfast tacos with team after, then nap then grocery shopping). Today: church then cooking. And drink enough water to get rid of this dehydration headache. I woke up before my alarm with a headache because I only drank 1 bottle of water yesterday.

  11. My brother has had a rough few days with his M.S. We are planning on going out to early dinner with the family at Outback. His M.S. is worse at nights so I don’t want him out too late.

I finally had some time to myself to do new artwork. This is called Next Stop the Moon.
