Friday at last. I have to go to the bank and the store, check job listings, and finish next week’s hovers. Fun!

My main weather widget says it’s going to be a high of 78 today. I like that. Poppy’s tail is getting less fluffy. Since she’s Opposite Cat, that means Winter is Coming (her tail did that last year, too).

I totally missed my prom. I guess I wasn’t paying attention. I was kind of counterculture, not at all into the mainstream. I’m sure Clover played, they played at every dance (the next decade got Night Ranger, so we were actually fortunate). It was probably at the Rec Center. I probably would have brought a boy from a different school, and would definitely have worn vintage 1930s. The whole “let’s spend a bloody fortune on the prom” think had not started yet.

I worked the phones for a PBS pledge drive once. Deepak Chopra was there helping to get viewers to send money. He’s such a fraud. I remember we were told that we couldn’t take any really small donations over the phone, so when I got obscene callers (they like watching your reaction onscreen) I’d say, “I’m sorry sir, but such small donations cannot be taken by phone,” and I’d hang up.

The first record I ever bought (LP, not a single – I don’t remember buying singles) was the Doors first album.

I skipped senior year of high school to go to college. That was a good move. No prom.

Did you ever work the phones at a telethon or pledge drive? Know anyone who did? Ever call and pledge?

    No to all

What is the first record or CD that you ever bought with your own money?

    I have no idea.

I went to someone else’s prom, and enjoyed it.  My date was Lynn Pisano.  Can’t remember what I wore.  I don’t think I had to rent a tux or anything.  Music was provided by The Nowhere Men, a band with lots of horns (Chicago and BS&T were in at the time).  They played rock and soul.  Excellent band.  I don’t recall the decorations, but it must have been a gym or some kind of multi-purpose room.

I have worked the phones, and I know quite a few others who have.  I have also called and pledged.

First LP with my own money must have been something by the Beatles.  For some reason, the early LPs I clearly remember buying are Beatles VI and The Rolling Stones NOW.  But I bought all manner of 45s, and I can’t remember what the first one of those was.

The Tennis Channel was running a great documentary on Billie Jean King recently.  I always knew she was a big deal, but I never realized how big.  Women tennis players get the same money men do because of her.

I’ll bet the dark horse candidate didn’t like being saddled with that distinction one bit!

One of my favorite YouTube channels (paganmaestro) was imho unfairly banned and many of the videos I love just disappeared along with him. So I was happy to find he is posting on Vimeo now, but I can’t embed the videos…..is it possible to do so on the moose?

Here’s a link to one of my favorites: Gretchen Peters, Guadalupe  http://vimeo.com/73748178

As near as I can tell, current GOP civil war is about who can eat the most bugs in one sitting.

Makes as much sense as anything else I’ve heard. Surely there is no rational explanation for why a major political party would choose to self-destruct. The solution is right in front of them, by the way: be a real partner in governing.

No, thank you!! This looks like indigestion waiting to happen …

By the way, I checked with my Dachshund and she did NOT want Weiner to win. 🙂

Whinnie will you learn that the press are always neighsayers?

Have a great day, Floja Roja, and thanks for the F Bomb or as your hover so nicely put it: F@#$%!! zipper Bomb.

Glad the weekend is almost upon us; hitting the grocery store tonight for some stuff, then the farmers market tomorrow for the rest.  Seeing friends on Sunday.  Good times.

    Q&A:

Did you go to your prom? Did you enjoy it? Who was your date, what did you wear, and what kind of music did they have? Was it a decorated gym, or one of the lavish ones that have become a thing in recent years?   Short answer:  No to all.  Longer Answer:  I went to my freshman semi-formal, hated it.  So senior year my best friend & I skipped the prom, went to the movies, then went & played pool, and had a blast.  I think we got the better deal, frankly.

Did you ever work the phones at a telethon or pledge drive? Know anyone who did? Ever call and pledge? Nope, nope, and nope.

What is the first record or CD that you ever bought with your own money?   Can’t remember the first record or cassette, but the first CD was Norman Lee Schaffer (self titled album) because I liked the music video for “The Way She Said Goodbye”.  I didn’t even have a CD player yet, but I hadn’t been able to find the album in cassette form anywhere.  Found the CD at Tower Records in Philly.
