Thursday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

77 in NYC, going up to 87 with some thunderstorms here and there to brighten things up. Hope it’s a good, healthy, happy day for all Meese and may you all meet your deadlines.

Temps in the upper 50’s, low 60’s with highs expected to be mid to upper 70’s and upper 60’s tomorrow.  Fall may have arrived.

Work may be calming down a little for the week.  Next week could be interesting with a simulated disaster recovery exercise….

Happy Friday Eve! I did not wake up at 4 am!

Eating breakfast, drinking tea. Earworm: Spanish Eyes (really loud, too – I can’t seem to turn it down, much less off). No rain in our future, unless some tropical depression develops just right. Sigh. So sorry for the people in Colorado who are getting way too much of it.

I brought the gym bag, current plan is to meet T/Th group after work.

Working on my second cup of Community Coffee, postponing going to the office as long as I can.

Did anyone notice the link to the Bayou Corne story I posted on Jonathan Turley’s blog? I could update it and re-post it here if anyone is interested. It is funny, but every time somebody posts something on the subject of energy or the environment, the trolls come out in force. The corporate shills must have people who do nothing but surf the internet looking for comment threads they can either hijack or spread the corporate PR line. Jonathan, who zealously protects the First Amendment, does not want to censor even the worst trolls. The Guest Bloggers (front page contributors) and most of the regular commenters agree that it sharpens our debate skills to take them on in all their obsessive glory. Catching them in their propaganda and lies is great indoor sport.

Well, bad as I hate to, got to stir around, eat something and head off to my own version of the salt mine. I will check back later.

It’s been a while since I checked in…Lots of life changes but my family and I are finding a new normal and pushing on…The oldest son went back to work full time today. Bless his heart he struggled to find a decent job for months, and then boom out of nowhere he got three different offers. So he’s back out in the rat race as of today.

Keeping checking for news about Nurse Kelley and hope she’s okay.

Hoping to get a lot accomplished today. A number of orders to get out and a portfolio of our (I’ve taken on a business partner) current craft projects to finish. Happy to have busy hands, helps pass the day.

    Happy Thursday…Come on weekend!

in Northern VA.  Good.  I’m so sick of the heat I don’t know where to look!

Just got off the phone after a half-hour harangue from Elder Son about cutting expenses.  He now wants us to collect all our bills and let him look at them so he can decide whether we need to cut expenses.  It’s amazing how, if you’re over 60, your children think you’re clueless!  ðŸ™‚

Anyway, he exhorted me to (1) cut costs and (2) earn money.  I’d rather host doggies for a weekend or a week every month than be a Wal-Mart greeter.  I don’t like Wal-Mart and never shop there.

On a happier note, JG in MD and I are going to have lunch next week!  Can’t wait!

(90s/70s) and then a cooling trend with maybe even some rain moving in taking us back to fall (80s/50s).  The kittehs love it because I can leave the windows open while I’m at work, including the one to the front porch so they can run in and out.  Things are better at work.  Mostly because I’m mostly being ignored, but I can live with that.  1st official 2014 Budget meeting tonight but shouldn’t be contentious as it’s the Sheriff’s budgets and even the one true Libertarian usually votes for that.  Soooo – things may not be going as smoothly as I’d like but they are going and I have friends so Life is good.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

Not foggy this morning but high overcast. Looks like winter outside, but the temperature is already in the low 60s.

Hope everyone has a great day!
