Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

    here in the Hudson Valley

Had a house full of company yesterday so never managed to get online much (a young guest commandeered my puter)

Not much sleep last night because the thunder and loud crashing and booming had both dogs and the cats cowering in the bed with me – they freak out, and require constant reassurance that the world is not coming to an end.

We woke up to the thunder early this morning. After some early morning tea and an espresso, I am almost human.

We had a great fortieth birthday party last night.  Good friends, food, tired kids, a fire and some wine.  Lovely.  My daughter was so worn out she just started crying when I carried her to bed.  She made me promise to sleep with her when I went to bed.  So I slept with a five year old in a twin bed last night.  My husband got the big bed all to himself until the two year old showed up.  Funny kids.

Today is gonna be hot again then cool and clear for a few days.  Can’t wait.

My husband has a fantasy football draft today so the kids and I are on our own for a few hours this afternoon.  Would like them to nap but they are often resistant to that idea.

    Have a great day all!

Eating breakfast, watching Up. Of course, it is all about Syria. Sigh. My feeling is that there’s an unacceptable choice, and there’s an awful choice with all kinds of unforseen consequences.

This is one of tose times I want a time machine. I want to go back to the post-WWII time period & have a chat with Harry Truman. That’s when we started supporting – and installing – dictators in the name of “democracy”. I’g love to break down for Truman & Eisenhower exactly how awful an idea that turned out to be. Like they couldn’t have worked that out for themselves, but anyway.

Today: church, grocery shopping, and that’s all. Nice having Monday to get other stuff done.

Labor Day weekend is one of my favorite holidays, because it marks the beginning of our quiet time. Soon all the RV’s, Harley’s, convertibles and tourists will leave, save the leaf peepers next month – and they’re mostly local.

RonK arrived home with a box of eastern Wa. produce to enjoy. The hot sun does wonders for the flavor of veggies and fruit.

We’re going to a family bbque later today, so I’ll share the cucumbers and tomatoes, but the eggplants are all mine/ours!

Not an auspicious start for September, but I’m coping.

Good morning peeps. I’m cat-sitting for a friend in the neighborhood who decided to get away for the weekend, and it’s nearly pootie’s breakfast time so I need to get a move on.

Wrote a front page story for Jonathan Turley’s blog about the schoolteacher in West Virgina who came home to find repo men taking the last of her belongings. They had stripped the place of everything but the carpet. Pictures, diplomas, awards, books, memories were all pronounced “junk” by the laborers and hauled off to the landfill. At least that is what they claim they did with her stuff.

Her house is 100% paid for. Twenty-five years ago. The house being foreclosed was not even in her town. The local prosecuting attorney said in an interview he would not be pursuing the case because it was no different than accidentally picking up the wrong suitcase at the airport.
