Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

61 right now in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a high of 82; a little more humid but still a wonderful temperature.

Wish me luck this afternoon, meeses!

  2. 64 degrees in Madison WI on its way up to 80. First time with a high in the 80s for about 8 days. For the next 10 days, below normal temperatures between 76 and 80. Can you say the dog days pleasantly mild days of summer?

Today is the last day of July. For all y’alls who have things that should have been done in July … this is it. Last chance then Done. Finito. End of Line. That’s All She Wrote.

p.s. You might try “cuter than heck” instead of “drawing blood from unsuspecting laps”:

There is a mini series of Baroque and pre Baroque music in town,  Went last night and thinK I will go back tonight. One of the violinists is extraordinary and you pay what you want for your tickets. Would that that happened more often!

slightly cooler temps for the next 10-12 days and also slightly wetter.  That’s fine with me!!

The co-worker that is moving to a new team is definitely suffering from short timers this week!!  Not that I blame her any.

Eating breakfast, drinking tea. Waiting for my check to hit my account so I can pay my bills.

If you don’t watch All In, you missed a brilliant segment last night. And you really should watch this show, anyway.

When will moderate whites condemn violent white youth culture?

Swim stuff is in the trunk. Yeah, I know. But it’s a step to at least have it with me. And I might actually swim one of these days.

    Happy Wednesday!

Little fog directly overhead this morning but I can see it pushing in through the Golden Gate just to the north of me. And the sky appears to be heavily overcast again. Hard to tell in the dark, though.

Not sure what has me up so early. Gonna try to get more sleep shortly.

69, clear going up to 82, though I’ll get rain tomorrow on my birthday.

That’s okay, because my big worry was for Saturday. Each year, the first Saturday in August, I attend a gathering of women, of all colors, ethnicities and ages – most are activists and union organizers, others are artists and poets, and every year the older women bring young daughters, or nieces or even granddaughters to take a place in the gathering – to pass on the torch in a manner of speaking.

We have a ball. We swim, we eat a lot, tell stories and share inspiration.

I always feel like I’ve recharged my spiritual/political batteries after attending.

Rainy and foggy here.  Going up to mid to upper seventies.  Low sixties at night.  Humid though.  My hair is gonna be jacked up today.

On tap for today:  bank, grocery store, workout, play with kids, make dinner, and try to knit a bit.  A shower would be nice too.

Was reading about that Chris Hayes segment, will have to watch today.  Add that to the list!

    Have a great day!

A few weeks ago I shared that my neighborhood pharmacy had to dump me as a customer and I was thus forced into the corporate embrace of Walgreens. Well, the good news is that Walgreens has a very cool way to order prescriptions online with almost no hassle. Which I just did. The prescriptions will be ready at 10am tomorrow. I could even have opted to have them sent to me, but I’m going to need the refills by Friday.

Only creepy thing is that in the security verification questions Walgreens seemed to know streets I’ve lived on going back over 30 years. Big Brother-ish, but I suppose I should be glad that their security system is so robust. 🙂

This is one of my favorite sabbats of the whole year! Tomorrow I’m going to bake a Lammas loaf to share at the ritual.

We’ve got 72 degrees F. at the moment with overcast skies–it may rain this afternoon. And thunderstorms are predicted for tomorrow, too–so much for a sunny Lammas celebration!

Finished my Lammas story, inserted the photo where I wanted it, but now–suddenly, with this coding for the photo, all the quotation marks in the story turned into lowercase “a” with a circonflexe accent mark on top!  I have no idea how to fix this but the story is now unreadable because of it.  There’s a lot of dialogue.

Other than that, I do, do, do need to get to the gym!

    Everyone have a good day!

Gave myself a self-imposed moratorium on internet conversations a while back.  It was needed at the time.

We’ve got a nice Bay area summer, lots of clouds.  Dreading August/September/October when the heat will come flooding in.  The seasons here are always a bit off the expected cycle.

    although it’s still about 10 degrees cooler than even “old normal” and 20 degrees cooler than “new normal” for this time of year.  Before weather became weird the last week of July was the hottest of the year – usually just into the 3 digits – and Lammas brought us the reprieve of dropping to the low 90s or even the upper 80s.  We seem to have gotten our Lammas weather 2 weeks ahead of time this year. 🙂  I’m happy to celebrate the Lammas bounty, even with the hotter weather, and if I were living my grandmother or great-grandmother’s lifestyle I’d be canning up a storm.  Lammas blessings on everybody – today especially on iriti’s interview (in modern society, jobs are in lieu of canning for the winter).  {{{HUGS}}}

After 2 full days of grand girls and dogs I’m really tired this morning. I should go to the PT pool but just staying quiet and resting may happen instead.

Hope your interview goes well iriti!

I’ve been nursing a sick cat 24/7. He’s a bit better today, giving me a chance to drop in and say “Hi!” to all y’all. Who knows, I might even finally get a shower. 🙂
