In 1974, the Supremes ordered Nixon to turn over the Watergate tapes to the special prosecutor.

In 2002, bad hair victim James Traficant was expelled from the House of Representatives after his conviction for bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion (all legal for congresscritters today, at least if they are Republicans).

In 2005, Lance Armstrong won his 7th Tour de France. Or did he?

  1. Have you ever done any mountain climbing (not hiking)? If so, where?

    No.

Who is your favorite living comedian?  What’s your favorite routine?

I dunno… Lewis Black’s recent “Fuck you Texas” was pretty good; I like Steven Wright, although I haven’t seen anything new from him for a while, Bill Cosby did some great stuff (e.g. Noah)… I don’t really have a favorite.

Who is your favorite dead comedian? What’s your favorite routine?

Well, there’s Lenny Bruce’s Jesus and Moses routine; George Carlin’s bit about Muhammad Ali and his one about Stuff; lots of others too.

Are you close to all of your cousins?

I’m not that close to any of them! But I do like my siblings 🙂  (siblings are really 0th cousins no times removed)

Do you have any relatives that you avoid at all costs?

I have one cousin who is a Republican. He also cheated against his own children at sports. Him, I avoid. Last time we were together we almost came to blows.

  2. Have you ever done any mountain climbing (not hiking)? If so, where?

    No.

Who is your favorite living comedian?  What’s your favorite routine?

John Oliver has been tearing it up on the Daily Show. Lewis Black is funny, even though I normally hate shouting. There are a few others I’ve enjoyed but I don’t spend much time watching comedy routines.

Who is your favorite dead comedian? What’s your favorite routine?

Carlin and some of the other old guys, Hope, Burns, people I watched on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Carson was pretty darn good himself.

Are you close to all of your cousins?

No, not close. I’ve never met most of them.

Do you have any relatives that you avoid at all costs?

“All costs”  means not going to family functions? No. No one on a continuing basis.

my daughter says it is too early to start doing stuff.  oh well.

no, i get sick over 9,000 feet.  i have to be careful where i hike, and i am not fond of technical equipment.

stewart, colbert, & the whole tds/tcr crew.

    carlin.

strangely, reconnecting now that i am single.  my ex was never big on spending time with my family.

i do not speak to my sisters.  i know it seems harsh, but it is better for all of us.

  4. Gee

We seem to be having a spell of relatively bearable weather.

No, I prefer the horizontal world.  My hat’s off to the mountain climbers, though.  I knew some in Yosemite.  Crazy bunch, and just obsessed.

There are so many good comedians, but the only one I’m current on is Lewis Black.  Pardon me, but I love the routine about hiring a personal ball washer.

Favorite dead comedian, Jack Benny.  On his TV show, he once did a sketch in which, for some reason, he decided to take all of his money out of the bank.  When he came back the next day, the bank had closed and become a fruit stand.  The bank employees were still there, just selling fruit.

I haven’t seen my cousins since my uncle died in about 1989.  I don’t know the whereabouts of two out of the three.

I’ve been lucky with the quality of my relatives, although there weren’t many of them.  There’s one ex-in-law who was always a chore to be around, but I’m unlikely to run into her.

Don’t tell me Pete stole that windmill move from him?

I like the title on the video:  Les “Them.”

  6. Floja Roja

I slept late. It was nice.

Have you ever done any mountain climbing (not hiking)? If so, where?

I’ve hiked, but never climbed. Anything involving equipment would terrify me.

Who is your favorite living comedian?  What’s your favorite routine?

The entire Daily Show crew are brilliant. Colbert’s routine at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner was a classic.

Who is your favorite dead comedian? What’s your favorite routine?

George Carlin, all of his routines. The man was brilliant. Also Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce, and all those who were part of a comedy group who’ve passed on, like the Marx Brothers and Monty Python.

Are you close to all of your cousins?

Nope. All Republicans (Texas and Oklahoma). I am in touch with one older cousin who idolized my mom, and she does the family tree for that side of the family. We avoid talking about politics. She said that Mom tried to convert her to being liberal, but it never took.

Do you have any relatives that you avoid at all costs?

I never got to know any of them well enough to know if there was a need for avoidance. It wouldn’t be hard if I did. I have plenty of non-relatives I consider family, blood is unimportant.

this site is soo slow for me.  Does anyone else have that problem?  Keeps me from posting more frequently… i blog as if i’m a drone… buzz in, deposit payload, buzz out.

  8. JG in MD

    No mountain climbing.

Comedians, Colbert is brilliant and Tom Lehrer is still alive.

Deceased comedians, George Carlin, especially Stuff.

Relatives all live far away, so avoiding a few is easy.

Cousins, there were nine. I always thought of them as three rich, three poor, three dead. (Will I go to Hell for that?) All are ~20 years older than I am. I’m the youngest of a youngest and born when mom was 39.

Only two cousins are still alive, one dropped our acquaintance 40 years ago, the other is beloved. Now my contemporaries are their kids. Genealogy research has kept us in touch; I’ve seen some of them a few times over the years.

Have you ever done any mountain climbing (not hiking)? If so, where?

    no just hiking.

Who is your favorite living comedian?  What’s your favorite routine?

That’s tough.  Gaffigan’s religious holiday routines are great (as is hot pockets). Colbert and Stewart are hilarious.  The 2006 midterm midtacular rant by Colbert may be the funniest piece of television i’ve ever seen. But I think Lewis Black’s How to Stimulate the Economy is my favorite thing ever.

Who is your favorite dead comedian? What’s your favorite routine?

George Carlin or Richard Pryor.  Hard to separate.  Carlin’s food and grocery shopping routines are excellent.

Are you close to all of your cousins?

    not really.

Do you have any relatives that you avoid at all costs?

    not really.

  10. Avilyn

Have you ever done any mountain climbing (not hiking)? If so, where?  No climbing, only hiking.

Who is your favorite living comedian?  What’s your favorite routine?  That’s tough; depends on my mood.  The Daily Show is usually good for a laugh; Lewis Black; Bill Engvall; Jeff Foxworthy.  Favourite routine?  Maybe Black’s routine about the Starbucks across from a Starbucks.

Who is your favorite dead comedian? What’s your favorite routine?  Carlin; Abbot & Costello.  Who’s on First is good, but there was one where they argued about how much 7 weeks rent at 13 dollars a week came out to, with one “proving” mathematically that it was only $28 through creative addition, division, & multiplication.

Are you close to all of your cousins? Not really.  I have 5 first cousins, only one of which lives in the same state I do (she’s one of the ‘avoid at all costs’ relatives).  The others I will see once every few years or so, and we get along but aren’t necessarily close

Do you have any relatives that you avoid at all costs? Yep
