Happy Monday, Bomberinos! Happy July! Happy birthday to my late older brother, Scott. Happy second half of the year!

Interrogatories

Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been?

How old were you when you saw your first adult themed (not porn) film in a theater?

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream?

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know?

Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been?

I tried to be a smoker. Bette Davis and all the other old movie stars made it look so cool, but cigarettes made me turn pale green and sick to my stomach, so that didn’t work out. Or did it?

How old were you when you saw your first adult themed (not porn) film in a theater?

I was at a friend’s house for the night, and her parents wanted to go see “Klute,” with Jane Fonda (rated R, I think, though the M designation was still around, I think) and didn’t want to leave us kids alone. They called my parents to get permission, and we all went. A lot of it (not the sex parts) went over my head.

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream?

Cilantro tastes like soap. Journey sucks. ;-P

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know?

Hell, no! If everyone did find out, I’d have to get a new identity. Imagine all the acquaintances you ever had coming out of the woodwork and wanting to be friends again. Blecch.

  2. Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been? I’v never smoked or was around second hand smoke so my Doctors can’t figure out where the C.O.P.D. came from.

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream? unicorns and dragons do exist

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know? keep it a secret

  3. Can only imagine how sickening it is for families with everything at stake to see immigration covered through lens of electoral politics.

       – pourmecoffee (@pourmecoffee) June 28, 2013

From Tom Tancredo saying that Hispanic voters only want “ObamaPhones” to the insults being hurled at an entire ethnicity, it has to be very sickening.

I hope the immigration bill passes so that the families of those 11 million people who lack documentation have some kind of certainty. But failing that, I hope that it is the final nail in the coffin of the Republican party. When all that is left is the nativist wing and the teaparty wing and the anti-marriage-equality wing and the racist wing and the anti-reproductive-rights wing, it is hard to see how they coalesce around a national candidate, much less have numbers sufficient to elect anyone.

  4. Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been?

    Never smoked.

Are Marx Brothers “adult-themed”? I think I saw some of them quite young. Maybe 7.

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream?

MOST of my beliefs are outside the mainstream! At least the mainstream in USA. e.g.

    There is no God

    All drugs should be legal

    Prostitution should be legal.

Gambling should be even more legal than it is.

Polygamy, polyandry etc. among consenting adults should be legal.

Guns should be treated like cars: You should need to get a license, if you act irresponsibly you should lose your license, licenses should have to be renewed every two years (or some such) including a new road test and written test (I know that’s not how cars are treated now….).

Everyone should be able to have a basic nutritious diet; if they can’t afford it, it should be given to them.

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know?

  5. Something will liven up my month? Or I have to do something to liven up my own month?

    HAHA Hovers!

The world’s tiniest string section, now playing for NOM.

    And yes, words fail.

International Joke Day? I hope that is not “practical jokes”. There is usually not much funny about practical jokes especially when attempted by amateurs.

From my Twitter emitter last night: the Republicans in Ohio passed a new anti-abortion law the defines life as beginning at or near conception (there is still some question).

Here is a tweet showing a picture of the diverse group of Ohioans invited to the signing.

And the first me-too with the new law:

Smoke em up:  I smoked all through college and vet school.  I freaken loved it.  I quit about six months before my husband and I decided to start trying to have a baby.  It wasn’t too hard as I quit drinking at the same time.  All of it was very social for me and now that I never go out no problem.  Plus, Illinois has the no smoking in public places rule.

Adult themed film:  my parents took me to see top gun when I was in fifth grade.  I couldn’t have been more uncomfortable during the love scene.  I wanted to melt into the seat and disappear.

Out of the norm belief:  I believe there are to many people on the planet and that we should actually do something about it.

Money, money, money:  it would be obvious

I quit smoking 2 yrs ago this month. Started getting breathless.

    Adult themed film? Minor.

I’d prolly hare my windfall with family and close friends. I wouldn’t know what to do with that much money.

Never smoked, so I’ll tell you about my dad.  He was a rather light smoker, both cigarettes and a pipe.  I don’t know why he decided to quit, but it took him about three years of false starts before he got it right.  Thereafter, he grumbled incessantly about the smell when other people smoked.

You mean, first movie that wasn’t designed for kids?  Or would it have to be at least PG rated?  First movie I ever saw in the theater was Trapeze.  That probably counts, eh?  I was a little kid.  Don’t remember much about it.

I firmly believe that I will win the lotto.  In which case…

Aside from helping some family and friends out, and suddenly living lavishly, I’d try to keep it quiet.  Fat chance.

Heck, back then, some of them were probably smokers.

Indeed they do.  (Btw, I once heard Peter Lawford quoted as saying that Nancy Davis was best in that department.  Whether his word could be trusted, I have no idea.)

  14. I’ve seen people get windfalls, from inheritances, settlements, or business sales. They don’t have to be “big” money to change someone’s life. But people with shaky lives tend to continue to have, and people with solid lives/values tend to continue that way. Having money doesn’t so much change us as change how we exhibit ourselves.

If I had a big windfall it wouldn’t impact much other than how we donate to charities.

Windfall: I realized over the last couple of days that the grocery store didn’t ever actually process a payment from us for catering Son’s party last month. It’s about $200. Need to call this morning for them to look into it.

Smoking: I smoked from age 16 to 23. My parents smoked. I look at actors/actresses smoking in movies and all I can think is “You so don’t know how to do that.” I quit instantly when I took a new job and the desk had ashes all over it and a full ashtray. But it was great to have a way to pose for any mood or expression. When my date lighted my cigarette for me… ooohh, sexy.

How old were you when you saw your first adult themed (not porn) film in a theater? Don’t remember.

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream? Let’s just say most Republicans would send me to hell before I was even dead.

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know? I’d tell the family “Guess what? You’ll never need to support me!”

  16. Its the Supreme Court Stupid

You got questions?  I’ve got answers:

Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been?  I was until I quit on Memorial Day weekend in 1991.  I was posted overseas, where, I could go to an Army PX and get cigs for 7.00 a carton.  I was coming back to New York, where they, at the time, cost 7.50 per pack.  So, in addition to the health reasons, I had a financial incentive.

How old were you when you saw your first adult themed (not porn) film in a theater? I was 12 and managed to get in to see the R-rated “Rachel, Rachel”.

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream?  I believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that man is a rational species.

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know?  Who is saying that I haven’t had one?

Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been?

Yes, 2+ packs a day of Marlboro Reds. Quit about 14 years ago…it was a gradual thing and followed on the heels of me quitting a bunch of other stuff. I will still smoke the random one (always singular) when out drinking in a social setting (very random, as in…I don’t think I’ve had one in a year or so).

How old were you when you saw your first adult themed (not porn) film in a theater?

I dunno, probably 10 or so. My older brother and I used to sneak into the local theater with our friends (naughty!). I do know that I saw both Jaws and Alien at the Drive-In when they came out and they affected me far more at that age than any ‘dirty’ movie did (skeered the bejesus outa me…nightmares for weeks). /grin

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream?

While skeptical of either, I’m more willing to believe that aliens somehow intervened in the advancement of mankind than I am that God (of any flavor) did.

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know?

Nope. At least not beyond helpin’ out where able and ‘footing’ the bill for meals/travel/vacations/whatnot for family and friends. We’d not move or change vehicles either. (we’ve had this discussion every time the lottery hits above 100million…it is kinda fun to ponder)

…to a local drive-in to see Goodbye, Columbus. That was the first R-rated film I ever saw. I didn’t like it. Most of the movie made me squirm.

I was about 15 at the time.

It’s my birthday, too!  I share it with some interesting folks.  🙂

    Q&A:

Are you now, or were you ever a smoker? If you are an ex-smoker, what prompted you to quit? How long did it take, and how long has it been?  ExSmoker; pack-a-day Camel Lights.  I mostly quit once I got engaged, as Mr. A is a non-smoker; tried to do the ‘only smoke at work, not at home’ thing but my lungs didn’t like that & gave me more issues than when I just smoked all the time.  So I quit.  Did still have one or two at stressful times, but the last one was over 8 years ago, when I took my last final for college (went back to school as an adult to finish my last semester’s worth of classes).

How old were you when you saw your first adult themed (not porn) film in a theater?  No clue.  Over 18, probably.  Hardly ever go to the theater, and have a horrible memory for what I’ve seen.

What’s a belief that you hold that is out of the mainstream?  For a long time I was Pagan; now I’m basically atheist.  I think that’s still out of the mainstream, although not as much as it was.  I also think abortion should be legal, no restrictions on trimester etc., which goes further than many ‘pro-choice’ advocates.

If you suddenly had a massive financial windfall, would you want to keep it secret, or let everyone know? Keep it secret until I had everything squared away legally; then let close friends/family know & help them out as needed.
