And a Happy 71st to Sir Paul.

It’s International Picnic Day. What’s in your picnic basket (besides bear repellent)? I’ll have to check with Boo-boo.

It’s also apparently International Panic Day. What makes you want to panic?  A lack of bear repellent while on a picnic

George Lucas is predicting eventual $150 movie tickets(!). Do you still go see movies in theaters? What’s the best theater and why? What is the most annoying thing about movie patrons these days? Sometimes go.  My favorite theater is the Jacob Burns Film Center, which shows less commercial films, documentaries, foreign films and holds film festivals.

  2. 1. Picnics should include wine, cheese, fruit, and chocolate.

    2. Panic will set in for me if attacked by hordes of large spiders or dogs.

    3. Movie patrons should leave their cell phones home and watch the movie in silence. Two movies I watched this week were not in theaters. One was Wallace and Gromit ‘The Curse of the Were Rabbit’. The other was ‘The Big Year’ about birders going for a record # of sightings. Steve Martin and Jack Black among others.

It looks like a lovely day here in E IA.

It’s International Picnic Day. What’s in your picnic basket (besides bear repellent)? Mosquito spray. Watermelon. Anything else that’s cool.

It’s also apparently International Panic Day. What makes you want to panic? The legislators who thing Margaret Atwood wrote that Handmaid’s Tale as a guide book, not as a cautionary story of a dystopian future.

I go to the Alamo Drafthouse, they rule. Though Lucas’ price prediction is a bit disheartening. But the Alamo has reserved seating, actually good food, and absolutely, positively no talking whatsoever. Here’s their best trailer for that:

Never really enjoyed picnics.  Wind.  Bugs.

    The thought of a layoff.

Haven’t been to a movie theater in a couple of years.  How much are tickets now?

Best theater?  Don’t know.  Any theater that plays other than blockbusters.

They make noise?  Same as it ever was.

Love the goat in the Wiertz painting, who would have thought that they would have had photobombs before they had photos?

I had weird dreams featuring my cats sliding down the stairs on pillows and crashing into a Christmas tree and goth-looking sun-worshippers prostrating themselves out on the street as the sun rose above the hills.

It’s International Picnic Day. What’s in your picnic basket (besides bear repellent)?

Wine, cheese, good crusty bread, salami, potato salad, chocolate

The thought of Republicans ever fully regaining power.

If they get that expensive I simply won’t go, and neither will most people.  Unless that’s just inflation and $150 is equal to today’s $15, which I suppose is possible.

I do go see some movies in the theater. I have my favorite movie house just around the corner, The Vista. Built in 1927 as The Bard, it’s like an intimate version of the grand movie palaces, with the Egyptian motif for decor (though the exterior is more Mission). Though it doesn’t slope like modern movie houses, it has the best leg room of any theater (they took out every other row of seats), real popcorn with real butter, and they show not only the latest blockbusters, but art house films and cult classics as well. And they host many of the offerings for the Silver Lake Film Festival. And their prices are better than the chains. Oh yeah, it’s a chain. Two theaters.

Talking, texting, and noisy food wrappers are the prime annoyance. And my friend who always asks what is happening when we are both watching it unfold at the same time (which is why I never go to films with her anymore).

Picnic:  pimiento cheese and crackers, watermelon, my grandmas macaroni salad, white wine.

Panic:  heights, thinking I’ve misplaced one of my kids, disorder

Movies:  I don’t really go to the movies, much better to watch at home.  People are so rude with their phones and talking in theaters.  The best movie theater is the Tivoli in downers grove illinois.  It was one of the first theaters built for sound in movies.  It is still there, it’s huge and now they show movies for five bucks there.

    Almost never.

My living room: TV/PC for watching blurays or streaming, munchies and wine at the ready, and a couch for comfy viewing with ms. bubba.

    Talking during the movie.

on the phone, so no bubbapod till later.

Crusty bread, pâté, gherkins, and those pickled pearl onions. And lots of champagne.

I don’t go to the movies much at all so I only know about cellphone rudeness second-hand.

A nice selection of beers and cheeses. /grin

Late night phone calls (seldom do they bring good news). The back gate being left open by workers (we have 3 dogs). The grocery shelf being empty of Fage w/ Honey (teh horror!)

George Lucas is predicting eventual $150 movie tickets(!). Do you still go see movies in theaters? What’s the best theater and why? What is the most annoying thing about movie patrons these days?

We still hit the movies now and again (just saw Man of Steel in the theater). Mostly we Red Box it when looking for a movie to watch (or use Roku/On Demand/etc).

I like The Commodore theater in Portsmouth and the Cinema Cafe locations (we still call it the Cinema Drafthouse). Both for the same reasons…comfy chairs, nachos, and pitchers of beer. /grin

I’m pretty tolerant of movie goers…though, chitter-chattering youngsters and/or active cell phone users can get under my skin.

I don’t do picnics anymore – to the disappointment of the bugs love to picnic on me!

Haven’t had a panic attack in years and I’d really prefer to keep it that way.

I haven’t been to a movie in a theater since Star Wars Episode I.  Not only do I not find it a treat to go somewhere I have to wear ear plugs for comfort, modern camera “panning” techniques upset my tummy and I’ve never enjoyed having to pry my shoes from the floor (results of other patrons’ careless habits with soft drinks).

    Yes, I know – I’m no fun.
