Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

Sorry I’ve been so absent lately. Work and life have been intense. Not bad, just very intense.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Headed for a high of 90 degrees, our first 90 degree day this year. Tomorrow will be our second. Friday our third. Saturday our fourth. Hot and humid. Like normal for around here.

  2. But be careful if you hire a dog for legal work:

62 degrees here in Madison WI. DENSE fog right now and not expected to burn off until 10am. Afternoon thunderstorms, high of 82 degrees.

I hope everyone in the path of the tornadoes yesterday is safe.

65 degrees with an expected high of 85. Very hot and sticky today.

Last night, trained weather spotters were very busy seeing tornadoes starting about 20 minutes south of here. Many houses were destroyed, but no one was hurt. The National Weather Service will be through today to assign EF numbers.

    A scene from last night…..

here in Hudson Valley.  My dogs are going to be very unhappy.

    They hate thunder.

Recovering nicely from part one of my root canal yesterday.  Two more visits to finish, then a slew of appointments for other dental work and the next steps on my eyes.

This will be a medical summer…one of many to come I’m sure.  Sigh.

Getting older has benefits (I’m alive) but falling apart slowly makes me cranky 🙂

steamy NYC. Cloudy going up to the mid eighties. But, it looks as though Michaele Bachmann is taking a final bow! Some mornings, the news can be ok.

So, Michelle Bachman has decided to retire. Of course, it has nothing to do with the ethics or the FBI investigations of her, or the fact that the guy that lost to her by one point has announced that he’s running again. No, not at all…. Whatever it is. I’m glad she’s getting out.

Results of ortho appointment: the good news is it’s not carpal tunnel. The bad news is – it is arthritis. I have bone on bone at the base of both thumbs, and one other bone in my left hand. The PA I saw yesterday is consulting with the practice’s hand specialist today, and will call me today outlining the next steps. The possibilities are injections and surgery to fuse the bones. The PA was surprised because she said this is unusual for somebody as young as I am (I’m 49). I also have been prescribed generic Relafen for pain maintenance. The PA was leery of giving me any pain meds because of my stomach/digestive tract issues, and told me to keep an eye out for how my stomach handles this stuff – although this is supposed to be easier on the stomach than other options. I wish I could say this surprised me, but as much as I do with my hands, for as long as I’ve been doing that kind of stuff, it really doesn’t.

Hamburgers on the grill tonight–can’t be bothered to make anything else. Can strawberries picked by a friend from a “pick your own” field cause tummy upsets?  Both hubby and I are feeling “off” and experiencing some, ah, symptoms. And we still have lots of those strawberries left.

Hope the tornadoes today puff themselves out in the stratosphere today and don’t land on anyone or anything!

Sympathy, Denise, on how you’re feeling after the dental work.  Quite debilitating, isn’t it?  Hope you can take it easy for a couple of days.

Still working at the book review–problem is, keep having to reread loads of pages in order to write one or two paragraphs of the review.  The book is 467 pages long, so it’s taking a while.

Everyone have a great, bermuda shorts-flip-flops-tall iced tea day!

Some areas got a month’s worth yesterday.  The Iowa River at Tama has hit record levels and it’s all headed to Iowa City.  More rain today, tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday.  It’s starting to compare to 1993 in rain amounts around here…. not good.

I’m not looking forward to this afternoon…. ‘An Invitation to Innovation’ ‘conference’ for work 12.30-5.00pm… oh joy….

Not sure why I’m somewhat awake so early this am. It’s 5:00 and still dark, but the intertubes give the local temps at 58F. Have great day. I’m going back to bed and try to get more sleep.

Eating breakfast, catching up on the news. Wow Michelle Bachman.

It’s supposed to rain again today, our swim is at an outdoor pool, but they will only cancel for lightning. 6pm hourly forecast says 40% chance of rain, but the actual guy on the tv this morning said maybe severe weather & hail this afternoon, so that could be interesting.

So, today: work, workout of some kind, maybe hail.

both dogs were slow gettng up. We’re going to the next town over this afternoon because I hav a follow up appointment with the dermatologist. Since that hasn’t healed up yet I can’t imagine what he’s going to tell me. Right now there’s only one bad place but it’s really bad. Hope everyone avoids storms today, they’ve been awful this year.

They dug out te area for our new patio yesterday and then we got two inches of rain in an hour last night.  Sump pumps working overtime. Tons of thunder and lightning which was beautiful actually.

Today I get to go to the DMV and get my new drivers license.  Its really humid here.  My hair is gonna be awesome for that picture.

    Have a great day all!

riverboat at our little city on the Columbia.  The return of the river cruise lines has not been the boost to the local economy the Chamber had hoped, but I suppose every bit helps.

Given the drizzle to which I awoke, the tourists may choose to stay aboard, despite the grand welcome “Fort Dalles Floozies and Friends” prepare for each arrival.

Well, as usual I’ve taken too long a break from my morning “I just might get out the door in time to avoid being late” routine.  So, consider me duly checked in.  I’ll try to pop in from time to time today, but since my office is essentially a drop-in center, one never knows whether and when lulls might occur.

Just a routine check-up. I’m planning to walk the whole way there and back if I can (it’s less than a mile each way, with no major hills).

Until then I plan to have a relaxing morning.

Fortunately it’s a rainy grey morning because the annoying cold I have continues to really annoy me! A sunny day would just be to much for my squinty eyes and stuffy nose….

The afternoon will be fun though, because Wednesday is grand girl day and after not seeing them for two weeks I’m really looking forward to being  with them.

Routine is routine in my life right now, well if you don’t count worrying myself to death about things I have little to no control over. Only good thing about today, it’s a nice sunny day here in south Sacramento CA and the windows are all open to let the foosty air out the house.

So survey is asking, if you had someone in your life that just will not take your advice whatcha do with that? I just got off the phone with MZ Kelley and have made a decision to prioritize and cut off a certain energy vampire that is choking me. How do you guys deal?

  19. JG in MD

after first errand, on the way to the others. Two blocks down the road driving slow and nervous past the speed cameras, can’t afford another ticket.

Policeman standing in middle of road just past the cameras pulls me over and gives me a $25.00 ticket for not wearing my seat belt.

I got very upset, took a Xanax but spent the next hour or two in a screaming, sobbing, self-pitying tizzy while I was doing my errands. Managed to keep quiet in the grocery store though.

Went to orthopedists’ office I had heard about, I think six doctors, made appointment for next Tuesday for my hip and knee. Tried to get an estimate of what the 20% Medicare copay would be but of course they couldn’t say. So much for the vaunted “informed medical consumer.”
