What form of natural disaster scares you most (even if it never happens where you are)? Tornado, because of the damage it can do, and its unpredictability as far as what it will do. April 20, 2004, there was a tornado that came by the college I worked at. I was there at the time, and ended up helping Safety Services get everybody under cover. The tornado came up behind the college, hopped over a building into a courtyard, hopped over another building, and followed the Illinois River about 10 miles down to Utica, IL, where it killed 8 people.

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline? In my mind, Chicago – but I’m biased…

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)? 3 days. When I was a kid, we used to drive from Chicago to LA every couple years.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for? Stress and depression.

I see it’s the anniversary of the death of Jane Addams. I attended the same college she did (many, many years later – don’t let Kidlet say otherwise…), Rockford College in Rockford, IL. I also worked on the premiere production of a play about her, written by one of the theatre instructors there.

  2. What form of natural disaster scares you most (even if it never happens where you are)? Earthquakes. I lived in California most of my life and the Loma Prieta earthquake of of 1989 was horrible. I thought the ground would never stop shaking.

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline? San Francisco

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)? As a child moving from New Mexico to Northern California. Of course I was car sick the entire time so that didn’t help.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for? Stupidity on the Internet.

    Good morning.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for?

    Tornado.

    San Francisco.

I have no idea.  I have driven across the country a couple of times.

You mean a patch to cover a hole, or a decorative or commemorative patch?

  4. What form of natural disaster scares you most (even if it never happens where you are)?

    Tornadoes.

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline?

I’m with trs on this one. Chicago has an amazing skyline.

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)?

Various road trips, and other trips when there were intermediate stops prior to final destination. Last year we went to Maryland by way of Maine.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for?

I can think of things but won’t say.

I’ve never experienced an earthquake, and I never want to. I was here for Austin’s F5 – it hit about 10-15 miles north of downtown, so “all” my part of town got was the mega-severe thunderstorm. Believe me — looking at a green sky & huge wind & rain…… yes, the sky/air was green. Scary as shit.

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline? mine

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)?

Back in the 70s, going from the States to either Algeria or Saudi Arabia took a full 24 hours of traveling. Flights, layovers, etc. 24 hours. And I did it alone frequently — actually alone, this was before the airlines had policies about kids traveling alone.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for?

cheese. please someone — un-addict me from cheddar cheese

Natural disaster:  tornadoes.  They are sneaky.  Hurricanes give you time to either prepare or leave.  Tornadoes just appear and tear it all up.  And the green sky is so eerie.

Skyline:  Chicago, but I live here

Longest travel:  we moved from DC to anchorage when I was sixteen.  We drove across country, stopping in OK to visit relatives then drove to Seattle, put the car on a boat a flew the rest of the way.  When we got there the sun was out at ten pm and I knew i liked it (but I was sixteen so I complained the whole time just for fun)

Patch:  I need a patch for two year old tantrums.  Either for him to make them stop or for me to make me not hear them.

  7. Its the Supreme Court Stupid

What form of natural disaster scares you most (even if it never happens where you are)?  Tornado — because they seem so unpredictable and inevitable.  Of course, one might say the say about earthquakes…

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline?  New York, of course (although, it is missing two anchors).

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)?  Would that be including time travel?

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for?  For “Kim Chi Day”.  Then, I would be a cabbage patch kid.

  8. Avilyn

Have a trip to the dentist shortly & then the chiropractor after work.

What form of natural disaster scares you most (even if it never happens where you are)?  Hurricanes/Nor’easters, because they do happen where I am.

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline? Eh, I don’t really care for cities, so I guess none of them.  Give me the open country & a nice landscape instead.

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)?  I can’t remember, but probably going from Chicago to NJ, took over 12 hours.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for? Caffeine.

  9. Pam from Calif

What form of natural disaster scares you most (even if it never happens where you are)?  Tornado

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline? Marin County looking towards San Francisco.  Really tough to answer; California has so many beautiful views/skylines.

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)? 16 hours to Fiji.

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for?

    sugar preferably chocolate.

  10. No neighsayers here, though.

    Shades of Tim Russert!

Sad that Tim Russert’s legacy is sucking up to Dick Cheney so that he would continue to appear on Meet the Press … and Luke.

What city do you think has the prettiest skyline?

What is the longest it’s ever taken you to reach a destination (vacation or other travel)?

It’s “I Need a Patch for That Day.” What would you like to have a patch for?

Hurricanes. In Hurricane Hazel ca 1957, a tree fell right next to our house. The branches broke over the windowed alcove that held my mother’s piano. No harm done except for a few roof shingles, but very scary.

I have to say my city.

It took about 7-10 days to drive to California in 1970 and five or six days to return home on the USS Constitution after 3 years overseas for the State Dept. when I was a teenager.

Patch for the sweets and starches I can’t resist eating.
