Sunday All Day Brunch: King Arthur

(Cross Posted from Street Prophets.)

Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is on your mind. One of the most enduring legends is the one about King Arthur and Merlin the Magician. One of my favorite takes on the story is by Mary Stewart with her series of books starting with The Crystal Cave. I have used her books and other sources in doing artwork.

Merlin in the stories was not an old man when he first started out with Arthur. It was a young Merlin who came by Excalibur and placed it in the stone that Arthur would pull it from. I placed the picture inside a stone circle as they are sacred places and I felt that the sword belonged there.

In the legends the sword was given to Merlin by the Lady of the Lake.

In the legend after Arthur was killed the sword was returned to the Lady of the Lake who waits in the mystical land of Avalon for Merlin’s return and the return of Arthur.
