In 1834, the Senate voted to censure President Andrew Jackson for the removal of federal deposits from the Bank of the United States.

In 1854, France and Britain declared war on Russia (Crimean War).

In 2001, President George W. Bush publicly rejected the 1997 Kyoto Protocol on climate, a pact never ratified by the Senate.

In 2006, more than 1 million protesters took to the streets across France, and strikers disrupted all forms of travel in response to the First Employment Contract Law, which would have made it easier for employers to terminate by removing the need to provide reasons for dismissal.

I think they all fit together well.  Especially of it was THAT kind of weed.

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first? What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? What scares you the most? What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)?

Act:  I am quite deliberative but have my impulsive moments, but not for the big stuff.

Cheers me up:  wrestling with my kids

Scares me:  lots of stuff, mostly stuff I can’t control

Nostalgic decade of life:  the first ten years.  Pretty great, we lived all over the world and were really close.

Am I where I thought I would be:  nope, but I got really lucky when I met my husband and that changed my life

    Interrogatories

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first? I deliberate.

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? Music (classical), coffee, occasional retail therapy, really junky TV.

What scares you the most? I am pretty fearless.

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? This one is tough. I was a kid in the 50s. The 60s started with 20-mile hikes and the election of Kennedy, but they ended with Vietnam. The assassination of President Kennedy was the most unsettling event of my youth. I spent the 70s in grad school, although I did enjoy the two years I spent in the UK (1977-79). The 80s and 90s are a blur. I had three kids while I was on the tenure-track. My kids all reached adulthood in the aughts, and we became empty-nesters in 2010. I don’t have a good answer for this one.

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)? Pretty close. I went to grad school at age 20 because I wanted to be an archaeologist and a college professor. 40+ years later, I am still at it.

  3. anotherdemocrat

    ist sehr gut!

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first? deliberate

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? food (cheese, then chocolate – the real stuff, not Hershey’s)

What scares you the most? heights – paralyzing acrophobia

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? 30s – I didn’t know how good I had it

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)? No. I thought I’d be married to some fabulous man. Haven’t even bee on a date during Obama’s presidency.

  4. Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first?

I am pretty deliberative, and it’s a good thing, as I make better decisions then.

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh?

For music, Merle Haggard or Latin jazz are pretty reliable. Otherwise, being outside with Jim is a great tonic.

    What scares you the most?

Not a lot in terms of potential life events or circumstances. I have real issues with being up high on stuff that isn’t stable, like ladders, platforms, the St Louis Arch… Being up high isn’t a problem by itself.

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia?

I’m not very nostalgic and couldn’t point to a full decade worth pining over. I’d tell you that the year 2011 was pretty magical.

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)?

NO. It’s both way different and way better than anything I could have imagined.

  5. Its the Supreme Court Stupid

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first?  On impulse.  Wait!  Let me think about that!

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? A Fierce

What scares you the most? The GOP

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? My 20s

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)?

    Are you fucking kidding me?

    I’m pretty impulsive.

    Getting new music.

    Poverty.

College years, late ’60s, early ’70s.

I had different things imagined at different times.  I did not become a missionary (my imagination at about age 6) or a writer (high school and college).  I’ve done well working in the space biz, which is not something I had ever planned on.  And I’m happy, which is really cool!

    1860 – José Moreno Carbonero, Spanish painter (d. 1942)

The guy in this painting looks like Ringo Starr, and it brought to mind his appearance on the Simpsons.  He’s diligently still working on all his old Beatles fan mail.  So I was fully expecting this hover to read, “Please forgive the lateness of my reply…”

  8. Gee

    1868 – Cuno Amiet, Swiss painter (d. 1961)

OK, I love that hover!  Reminds me of Woody Allen’s Bananas:

Dictator’s decree:  “Everyone under the age of 15 is now 15.  Underwear will be changed every 15 minutes, and will be worn on the outside, so we can check!”

  9. DeniseVelez

    heh.

I refer to vaginas and penises all the time in class. Glad I’m in NY, a state that recognizes science.

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first? both – depends on the situation, though I try hard not to hit “post” on blogs before reviewing what I’ve said. If I acted on impulse I would have been banned years ago 😉

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? chocolate and music

What scares you the most? spiders

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? High School (which I raved about yesterday 🙂

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)? Close to. As a kid I wanted to be an archaeologist. That was blocked, due to my race + gender, and I wound up meandering through several field before I wound up an anthropologist – which is as close as I’ll get to our sub-field of archaeology. I got a real kick out of meeting Blue Jersey Mom in real life – and follow her postings about her life as an archaeologist.

Good morning…..I may have shared this video before, but oh well. Memory is elusive and I’m to sleepy to search 🙂

  11. princesspat

impulse or deliberate….while my impulses are often correct my responses is usually more effective when I’m more deliberate.

cheer me ups….time outdoors, music, being with the grand kids, reflective time alone, real sleep.

    scary…..hospitals

nostalgia…..being with my grandparents on their Nevada ranch

present life…..as I regain my physical strength I’m feeliing a bit more like the wise and strong woman I hoped to be.

  12. bubbanomics

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first?

    * deliberate… sometimes too deliberate, I suffer from analysis paralysis in many situations.

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh?

    * ms. bubba’s smiling face.

    What scares you the most?

    * I dunno. that the GOP is trying to make “the handmaid’s tale” into nonfiction.

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia?

    * none of ’em, really.

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)?

    * nope.

from the bubbapod… two covers for the price of one.

  13. jlms qkw

i thought it might be hot cross bun day?

    i love black forest cake!

    deliberate.  almost excessively sometimes.

rest, hydration, bubbly bath, distraction. watching my children sleep.

    no nostalgia.

    lol.

  14. Had a wonderful birthday dinner yesterday at Finnegan’s Wake with the family.

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first? Usually deliberate first.

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? Reading

What scares you the most? Severe asthma attacks

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? My college years

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)? No I still haven’t made it to Mars. 😉

  15. Floja Roja

Woke up with some stomach issues, went back to bed. Woke up again with massive headache.

Hoping the Advil and coffee help.

I deliberate about serious stuff, am impulsive about fun stuff.

Oddly, exercise of any moving kind makes me feel better. Endorphin high, I guess. Otherwise I turn to illicit substances such as chocolate and wine. 😉

The far right scares me the most. Have they always been this bad and I just didn’t notice?

Most nostalgia, definitely late 70s- late 80s, much of which is a blur now, but it sure was fun! The music still takes me right back there.

No, my imagination tended towards the fantastic, and science has not kept up. 😉 Also, I had no idea what I wanted to be back then, and I still don’t.

  16. slksfca

I feel nostalgia for my 30s, when I was doing well in life and was still young enough to wonder at it all. Aside from that, early childhood is the only period that holds any power over me.

    Have a great Thursday!

  17. Avilyn

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first?  Impulse

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh?  It really depends on the reason for the ‘meh’ feeling.

What scares you the most?  That the right wing crazies will take over the country.

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia?  Um, well, I’ve only lived through about 3 & 1/2 decades.  Hard to say.  I can get nostalgic about my childhood, though, when all of my grandparents & my great grandma were alive, so maybe that.

Are you now, in your present life, anywhere close to where you imagined you would be when you were young(er)?  Nope.

  18. cassandracarolina

Impulse or deliberate? My impulsive decisions have been just as good if not better than those I’ve agonized over. Either way, once I decide, I’m all in.

What cheers me up? A hug from Mr. Carolina or logging on and checking my webcams at my Carolina Home and picturing myself living there full time… later this year.

Most scary? The prospect of following my wonderful father into the hell of Alzheimers.

What decade? Whatever decade I’m living in – right now, I am at the start of my 60’s.

Close to what I imagined? Hardly! I would not have dared to imagine that I’d find my soul mate, even though it took a long time.

  19. JG in MD

Do you usually act on impulse or deliberate first? I study and research and think, then I jump, for better or worse. When I bought a computer from a one-eyed man in a parking-lot yard sale it was one of the best PCs I ever had. And you don’t want to know the Carfax on my Mitsubishi, which I love and only checked after I bought it.

What cheers you up when you’re feeling meh? Cats, cake, pie.

What scares you the most? Fear of destitution

What decade of your life do you look back upon with the most nostalgia? Whenever it was that I was hiking, doing spiritual stuff, and hanging out with really cool management consultants.

Are you close to where you imagined you would be? The irony, it burns: I have exactly the life I always wanted except that I have no money and live in a state of constant anxiety. I had a plan, but the aughts decade ruined it for me.
