The Daily F Bomb, Monday 3/25/13

Happy Monday, Bomb-critters! It was a lovely weekend, wasn’t it?

Interrogatories

What is your primary form of transportation? (Mine are feet and bus.) Is there anything that you continue to do the old school way even though there are new, labor saving ways to do it? What labor saving device do you wish someone would invent? What stereotype that applies to your gender annoys you the most? What do you wish your life had more of? What do you wish your life had less of?

In 1584, Sir Walter Raleigh (such a stupid git) was granted a patent to colonize Virginia.

In 1634, the first Maryland colonists settled there, having been sent by the second Lord Baltimore. (Because it wasn’t all religious freedom, ya know…)

In 1807, Britain abolished its slave trade with the passage of the Slave Trade Act.

In 1811, poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was kicked out of Oxford University for publishing the pamphlet called The Necessity of Atheism.

In 1894, Jacob S. Coxey began leading his “army” (a bunch of undeserving freeloaders, no doubt) of the unemployed from Massillon, Ohio, to Washington, D.C., to petition the federal government for relief.

In 1911, 146 workers were killed in a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, thanks to the doors being locked to prevent the workers from stealing or taking unauthorized breaks.

In 1947, 111 workers were killed in a coal mine explosion in Centralia, IL. Woody Guthrie wrote this song about the incident:

In 1957, U.S. Customs seized copies of Allen Ginsburg’s Howl, claiming it was obscene.

In 1965, Martin Luther King Jr. led 25,000 marchers to Montgomery, AL, to protest the denial of voting rights to blacks. (Now voting rights seem to be heading back in that direction.)

In 1969, John Lennon and his new wife, Yoko, began their first Bed-In for Peace at the Amsterdam Hilton.

    Today I’ll answer some questions.

Primary form of transportation is feet, followed by taxi nowadays (but normally train or bus).

I don’t cook frequently, but when I do it’s very old-school. Like whipping cream or egg whites with two forks held back-to-back. That kind of stuff. Also I have an old mortar-and-pestle instead of a food processor.

[skipping a couple of questions for now]

I wish my life had more storage space, or at least more floor space. I wish my life had less worrying about storage space.

Go out and conquer this week!

What is your primary form of transportation? (Mine are feet and bus.) Train, foot and car.

Is there anything that you continue to do the old school way even though there are new, labor saving ways to do it? I have an old fashioned, no-power, reel lawnmover.

What labor saving device do you wish someone would invent? One which wakes up teenagers.

What stereotype that applies to your gender annoys you the most? That we think with our penises 100% of the time.  I happen to think with my penis only about 90% of the time.

What do you wish your life had more of? Wine

What do you wish your life had less of? Republicans

Finally, happy anniversary of the destruction of the One Ring.  Unfortunately, Sauron has now chosen to manifest himself as Ted Cruz (or is it Rand Paul?  I’m never quite sure.)

Primary transportation:  I drive a Prius when I need to but we walk when the weather permits.

Old school:  bread making, gardening, knitting socks, composting

    Invention:  fingerprint free glass

    Annoying stereotype:  indecisiveness

    More:  trees/mountains

    Less:  religious right nonsense

    Oops, no, that’s snow.

32 degrees when I got up; going up to a lofty 39.  Wet snow until about noon.

Happy Monday, Bomb-critters! It was a lovely weekend, wasn’t it?

It was, indeed!  I bet you haven’t noticed how nice a weekend was since you started hovering!

Hovercraft.  No!  It’s a car, really.

    I still write paper checks.

Ummmm, I don’t know.  Something that thinks for me until about noon.

That thing about men not asking for directions.

    Time for reading.

    Stress.

…of the importance the F Bomb has assumed in my mornings came yesterday, when I kept finding myself looking for it, only to recall that it was our hostess’s day off. Today I rejoice at its return. 🙂

Somewhere (probably Facebook?), I saw somebody refer to “ex patriots.”  Incorrect, but quite logical.

What is your primary form of transportation? (Mine are feet and bus.) truthfully it is a car, we live in rural west Texas where there literally is no public transportation and just about nothing is within walking distance. Unless you’re looking for sand.

Is there anything that you continue to do the old school way even though there are new, labor saving ways to do it? I still make pie crusts with a pastry blender and fork even though I’ve been told food processors do this well.

What labor saving device do you wish someone would invent? a dryer that folded the clothes and returned them to their proper places

What stereotype that applies to your gender annoys you the most? That women are driven solely by emotion.

What do you wish your life had more of? time

What do you wish your life had less of? relatives, you know everything in life is relative except your relatives-they’re constant.

    More money and friends.

    Less worries about money.

How about something that picked up clothes, put them in the wash, chose settings, flipped them to the dryer and then folded the dry clothes and put them away?

What stereotype that applies to your gender annoys you the most?

I have to choose ONE??? I guess that we all like sports

What is your primary form of transportation? (Mine are feet and bus.) car – our bus system’s schedule is not just fiction, it is full-blown fantasy. OK, not really manic.  Stayed & worked from home today due to the impending snow; so far there really hasn’t been anything other than a flake or two in the air.

    Answers:

What is your primary form of transportation? (Mine are feet and bus.)  Car – I commute 110 miles each day [when I don’t work from home]; office is not convenient to public transportation.

[Is there anything that you continue to do the old school way even though there are new, labor saving ways to do it?]  Hmm…  the only thing I can think of is I do much of my baking from scratch, and I have a couple of bills (literally 2) that I write paper checks for.

What labor saving device do you wish someone would invent?  A teleporter, so I didn’t have to drive to work.  And something that washes/dries/folds/puts away laundry for you.  Hell, I just want a robot maid, really.

What stereotype that applies to your gender annoys you the most?  All women love shoes (or shopping for shoes); like shopping; like kids/want to be moms; can’t drive, etc. etc. etc.

What do you wish your life had more of?  Free time.  Or money enough to retire early, same effect.

What do you wish your life had less of?  Clutter.
