Sunday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings and Grazings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

24 degrees outside, with a very light wind. Expected to hit 37 today. Crazy busy at work this weekend, but my Friday has finally arrived.

JanFab, your weather jar is an absolute awwwwww.

…I can’t get back to sleep just yet. So here I am for a bit.

I actually thought it was beginning to get light out, but that turned out to be the moon shining in my window. It’s not full, but it’s very bright. And seeing the moon also tells me there’s no fog, which is a good sign for today’s weather, which is supposed to reach the upper 60s later on.

Last night I watched Top Hat on PBS (which meant no commercial interruptions!) Always fun seeing young Fred and Ginger strut their stuff. And my beloved Edward Everett Horton, strutting HIS (befuddled) stuff.

    Happy Sunday, herdnerds!

Laying in the bed watching trs sleep (he looks about 12 when he sleeps, don’t tell him I said so).

Don’t know how to post pics from my phone so no cute woozles for silks. So close your eyes, sir, and imagine an adorable beagle puppy gazing at you with big soleful eyes. There. Best I can do.

1-2 inches predicted tonight with one model giving us triple that. I’m skeptical we’ll get any given the peedicted temps.

    …over at the orange place:

Two studies were conducted to explore how people experience and express their anger on a particular type of Web site, known as a rant-site. Study 1 surveyed rant-site visitors to better understand the perceived value of the Web sites and found that while they become relaxed immediately after posting, they also experience more anger than most and express their anger in maladaptive ways. Study 2 explored the emotional impact of reading and writing rants and found that for most participants, reading and writing rants were associated with negative shifts in mood.

Thus confirming what I already believed to be true. I suspect this will resonate with other meese as well. 🙂

I was looking for this the other day and thought I’d lost it. But thanks to Photobucket’s improved navigation I was able to find it just now. An oldie-but-goodie. 🙂

and the almost annual die-off of the fruit blooms is now complete. At least the wind finally died down after blowing most of the night. I think I’ll go bake a cake and see if that cheers me up, mr w thinks it’s a great idea.

I’ve already put carrots, an onion, ginger root, zucchini & some spices on to cook. They have to cool down enough to be put in the blender, so I figured I’ll blend them after church. Then going to make a carrot/beet salad, cook some broccoli & make a sauce for it that I wouldn’t put on broccoli but my friend swears it is great.

For now, eating breakfast & watching the last Sunday Chris Hayes. So far, it is a NYC mayoral candidate round table. One guy actually ate a pastry. (if you don’t follow the twitter feeds related to the show, it’s a thing)

Today: maybe more cooking, church, cooking, triathlon group get together, rest & Walking Dead.

Oh, the weather — yesterday’s high was 80, it is now 45 & the high today will be 63, It is so windy that because of our drought, it is actually a fire danger.

29 degrees in Saint Charles going to 34.  We are expected to get about an inch of snow today.  Yuck.  I am over snow.  The past two days have been sunny and in the thirties but felt very warm due to lack of wind.  We spends hours outside yesterday.  I am unwilling to go back to being stuck inside.

We bought a house yesterday.  An adorable and surprisingly roomy 50s Chicago ranch.  It hasn’t been updated since the day it was built.  Will be so much fun to fix up.  We move in a month.  Busy, busy, busy.

Have a family party for my husbands family this afternoon.  He is from a big catholic family and there are something like 7 birthdays in March so we always get together in march to have one big birthday party that counts for everyone.

    Have a great day moose!

  9. It’s pretty powdered sugar snow, maybe a whole inch so far and maybe that much again coming. I’m not skeered.

Still, seems like a good day to stay here and sew. 😀

  10. We sort of slept in today until 7. Joined our next door neighbors, Paul and Judy, for dinner at a ‘new’ Mexican eatery. It was very tasty.

Later, Melanie and I watched the movie ‘Out of Sight’ with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. It was good enough to keep our attention. Kind of funny, too.

We need to do some of our taxes today. I have some files to transfer and cleanup. A little snow covered things. I won’t shovel it.

It should be a slow and quiet day.

It comes off as soon as I’m assured of no more home nursing/therapy visits. Sounds pretty arbitrary perhaps, but I’m going to look at it the way I do haircuts in general: as a fresh start, a new chapter. Meanwhile I remain adorably scruffy (or not, LOL!).

and my house is very chilly even with the heat downstairs so I’ve been snuggling in bed with my kindle rather than freezin my butt off at the puter.

Brrrrrr – snow coming tomorrow 🙁

  14. The arthritis was acting up all night so sleep was very restless. Will be taking it easy since it really hurts to move at the moment. I watched all the Special Features last night on my Hobbit DVD and will watch the movie today. Both kitties are in cuddle bug mode so I’ll have Merlin on my lap and Pixie next to me.

It is back to work for me tomorrow. We have a long week ahead of us. On top of my three regular classes, we will be interviewing two job candidates.

I am going to make some nice English tea sandwiches for brunch. I will bring out my fancy tea set. Might as well enjoy the last day of spring break.

My favorite garden shops are opening now so I know I’ll have a fun afternoon. Joe’s Garden is first on the list to visit. The greenhouses are full of early spring flowers and since the deer are loving mine I guess I’ll just keep setting out the buffet!

we are going to be looking for another doggie family member sometime soon. I’d love to find a dog that is not a super-shedder. It does not have to be one with hair instead of fur. I just don’t want pillow cases full of fur daily or weekly.

Need one that also gets along with cats, won’t kill the chickens, and will be smart enough to hang outdoors on 5 acres without running into the road and chasing cars.

We don’t usually rescue specific breeds of dog – Kemo, our oldest (12) is very large and  a mixed breed – he’s also taking the full brunt of 3 year old Chosi the German Shepherd’s energy now that Tabu has gone to doggie heaven.

We did have an elderly Schnauzer at one time. Most of our dogs have been proud to be 100% Mutt.

Need an energetic, friendly dog who won’t be cowed by Chosi.

Any suggestions about specific breeds, crosses you have experience with would be welcome.

I’ll be back later – have to head to orange for the Sunday thingee.

Well, it is so too morning still on the left coast.  Slept in this morning so I’m even later than usual.  45 degrees and mostly sunny in the Armstrong Valley.  Looks like a lovely day.  I predict that housework will lose out to yard chores today.  🙂

Bad news: Spilled Lexington Gray (looks like pencil on paper, black in the bottle) fountain pen ink on my desk, right at the front.

Good News: The house dress is an old one, expendable. I kept the ink on my thighs. It didn’t get on my shortie PJ pants, or the chair, or any of my papers. All my inks are water soluble, so desk and thighs wiped clean.

I saved the buttons from the dress.

    I’m so good I can’t stand myself.

  20. What are YOU working on? I know JG is working on something with water soluble inks. JanF is working on playing with fonts. After my nap I get to work on taxes…

But for now, I have finished working on a round robin quilt project. I invite you to take a look, if you’re interested.

couple of inches and the roads are just wet.  Dad came by a couple of hours ago to pick Pepper, the dog, up.  He lost his phone on the airplane over to China and the youngest niece lost her camera in a taxi over in China.  Dad didn’t have a whole lot to say… he was still tired from the trip and flight.  He did get a sunburn though.  Said the smog in Beijing was still bad.  His knees did well, but the feet…. they’re still a bit sore!!  Took lots of pics and will be working on downloading them.  He brought back a brass imperial Chinese dragon, a silk scarf, and a pic of doors in Shanghi that are supposed to have some meanings for me.

Working on laundry and have vacuumed up the doggie hair.  Movie and pizza night went well.  Not much else going on.

Did lots of cooking today.  Made a flaxseed granola for breakfast, a sauce for the kale I cooked yesterday (coconut milk, onion, garlic & spices),  put the vegetables I cooked this morning into the blender & made soup, cooked broccoli & zested a lemon & put the zest in olive oil for sauce for it. Whew.

Went to my tri group’s get together. There was – of course – a pilates class first. I just did what I could.

Now I’m resting my feet & watching Once Upon A Time.
