Friday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings and Grazings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

  1. Good morning JanF and all!

Lots on tap for the day. Seems like Fridays fill up that way. But I did get my quilt binding finished yesterday, and got started on a couple of “next” things.

Jim and I’ve been playing with wordpress. Seems like a lot is very easy and familiar, and like a lot of familiar things don’t work there. Kind of a mixed bag. At this point we don’t want to pay for an upgraded version. We’ll see. Generally we like it pretty well.

Cold here, about 16. (Beat ya, JanF!!) Supposed to get up to a blazing 37 today. And then no higher for the next several days.

    blech… I’m sick of winter.

  2. Yesterday was quite nice with sunshine and NO WIND!!! We went for a walk.

I tried to view comet PanStarrs last evening. No luck. I shot 4 pictures with ISO-800 on 5″, 2″, 1″, and 0.5″. Oh well. Another better one is on the way comet ISON.

A colleague and I at work figured out how to use Google+ and Hangout to do a video conference and show our desktops to each other. Handy when you have a window with something they need to see. I am going to teach the process to another today.

    Have a great day.

Is it me or does that sound like a 60’s group? I picture a female lead singer with a group of doowhap men in suits and skinny ties behind.

Anyway, 28 here, heading for 45. Last year this time we were in the 70’s.

week….  What Melanie forgot to mention is that there’s another *&^%$##^&*I)*%$#&^& snow storm coming for Sunday.

Did my first tech spec yesterday and hopefully, if some software has been installed, I’ll get to figure out how to use it.  Then code and find out how to use their compiler for pc based cobol.  Lots of ‘organizing’ of work area going on as well.

Had a tornado drill yesterday – lots of people ignored it!!

  5. Sheesh I thought it was supposed to be warm in the South. 😉

Rescue Mission coming in a few minutes to pick up several bags of clothes and other stuff. I cleaned out clothes and linen closets last week.

I think I need this guys fire to warm myself up.

Not much, but it still lingers. 29 warm degrees here at the moment. I think I will go back to bed soon. Just me and my cat.

We are back from our trip to OK.  It was great and my aunt is doing well.  AND I didn’t die in a plane crash which is always good.  We did, however accept an offer on our house, fund a new house and today are making an offer on that one.  It has been a busy four days.  Hope you all are well. We have our home inspection today so won’t be around at naptime.  Weekly RUMINATIONS will have to wait until later today.

this morning and off and on throughout the week.  Keke is proving more of a challenge that I anticipated.  Guess a month in a cage would make any cat cranky.  Had to cancel yesterday’s vet appointment because she was having none of going back into that carrier and she ended up spending the next 6 hours under the sofa.  She has also decided that any food (mine) is hers.  She tried to get into my bowl of cereal this morning.  Sheesh.  She has some bad manners but who’s been able to train a cat to behave!

They always go after the little people, don’t they? I can think of quite a few liars who should have been indicted, but we won’t go into that now.

Feel guilty gritching about our 29 F. on a clear sunny morning here in northern Virginia.  Yesterday we woke up to find a white film of “wintry mix” on the tops of the cars and ye olde barbecue pit. It’s been terribly windy.

Feeling happier today, so starting to think about vegetable gardens (should I plant the purple vegetable this year?) and whether or not I should buy a “rotary clothesline.”  I understand that these clotheslines can be folded up when not in use, which makes me glad.  I didn’t want to uglify our backyard by putting one up, but all this talk about carbon footprints and running out of fossil fuels is starting to get to me.

Lunch with our friend today, and then, I hope, off to buy some “sleepy clothes” for Miss Preschooler. Yesterday evening she demanded a bath after dinner, so by the time Daddy picked her up she was crammed into a pajama top and bottom that were much too small.

we’re supposed to be getting a cold front later with possible freezing temps. Not bad though, the old timers will get out and spray water all over the blooms and that should protect them. Of course I’ll keep you all posted on the fruit crop and whether I’ll be canning this summer or not.

  11. I can use * bold * and – strikethrough – and _ italics _.

and they’ll show up like this:

I can use bold and strikethrough and italics.

But if I put them in a blockquote

I can use bold and strikethrough and italics.

okay, now, that’s just weird. Because I did the same thing with bolding a minute ago in a different comment, and the bold did not work.

    huh…

When something works and then does not work, and you’ve done the same thing, it’s quite mysterious…

53 and climbing in N.Texas this morning. Not a bad day, little cloudy, sweater weather. Nice to be outside to get a few things done.

Noticed a few bluebonnets popping up here and there. Spring wild flowers are a sight to behold in Texas, especially down in the hill country. I love looking on a sea of bluebonnets with splashes of primrose and paintbrushes mixed in.

Homemade vegetable soup, cornbread and cobbler on the dinner ticket today. Not much else at the moment aside from usual household chores.

    Happy Friday!

Good morning. Didn’t think I’d sleep in quite this late, but it sure felt good. Now I’m trying to get caught up on coffee intake! 🙂

  14. ChurchofBruce

Cold. More snow coming. I went back to school for the first time since Monday due to a crummy flu. Oh, and I had a physical yesterday, and I now have Type 2 Diabetes. Shoot me, please 🙂

  15. princesspat

But it’s snowing south of the Everett convergence zone…..stay there snow!

I’m trying to wake up enough to safely drive to the PT pool…I’m grumbly now but know I’ll be happy once I get there.

  16. slksfca

Visiting nurse just called and wants to come prick my finger at 12:30 today. She’s a substitute for the “regular” nurse, who likes to visit at 9AM, so on this late-sleeping morning I have more time to get myself together. 🙂

I believe next week will bring the end of the home nursing visits, and the therapists as well. Yay! Now I just need the physical therapist to give me the green light to walk down the street sans crutches. Hope she’s agreeable to that!

  17. slksfca

I hope that means everyone is busy gearing up for the weekend. Heh. “Gearing up” is such an odd phrase. As if we were all mountain climbers or something.

Anyway … my weekend plans include more walking than I’ve been able to manage these past days, and (I think) slightly less napping. I may even get into Golden Gate Park, if the weather is tempting enough.

  18. slksfca

I’m itching to get out in the sunshine, but am killing time waiting for the home nurse to come by. Luckily her visit will be brief (about a half-hour) and then I can grab the crutches and get a move on. No major hike, just a spin around the ‘hood. I’m going to head to one of the neighborhood Mexican restaurants to get their super veggie burrito to bring back home and devour. Delish, and they always provide those little cups to fill with extra homemade salsa, choice of red or green. Getting hungrier by the minute!

Then the burrito will work its narcotic magic and I’ll be ready for a big fat satisfying nap. 🙂

Pounding of hammers and swearing of workers rising to a crescendo from next door. It’s a good thing I don’t need to think today because I couldn’t hear myself doing it.
