Yet another new moose!

Yes, yet another Kossack has joined the moose! Mooses!  But not Meeses (remember him?)

So I thought I’d introduce myself.

On the net I am mostly plf515. But I’m not a nony moose, and, if anyone cares, my RL name is Peter Flom.

Let’s see, introduction. There’s usually some biographical information:

Eyes: 2 of them. Both hazel. (Interesting that we only use “hazel” for eyes)

Sex and so on: Straight but not narrow.

Hair: Curly

Height: 5’7″

Weight: 190

Religion:

Aweist  but the God I don’t believe in is Jewish

Politics: My heart and mind are on the left wing of the Democratic party but my feet are firmly planted in reality. I’ve been active in politics pretty much my whole life.

Profession: Statistician and I am also attempting to do some work re Learning disabilities including working on a book to be titled “Screwed up somehow but not stupid” (it’s how my dad described me to his friends, 45 and 50 years ago).

Favorite topics to blog about: Books (I read a lot), elections, disabilities, quotations, jokes and lots more.

Things I believe:

We should vote for people based on what’s between their ears and in their hearts not what’s between their legs and in their beds.

No one should go to jail for putting something in his or her own body.

There are no categories of people.

Asking for rights for one group is like saying “your side of the boat is leaking”.

There is no Planet B.

Continuing to burn fossil fuel is group suicide.

I am happy to be here

Some of you are friends from the past. Some of you may well be people who have held grievances with me, from the past.

Some of you are people I never even thought much about, until I realized that you had been treated poorly.

Some of you are people I judged far too indiscriminately.

And some of you are people I never bothered to get to know.

I am honored here to make a fresh start.

Mitakuye Oyasin

(all my relations)

I also thank all of you who have ever been kind to me when I was feeling down. Wopila tanka.

Cante wasteya nape ciyuzapelo (it is with a good heart that I take your hand)

With thanks to Larry Monterey for the Lakota translations.

A Pootie Ode to Cheeseburger/Open Thread

The search for the perfect cheeseburger as been on the mind of the modern pootie for decades. For some, the search goes on for many lifetimes. Constant taste testing is required to find this utter purr-fection, as the norms for the noms frequently change.

Getting hoomins to understand this fact is a true challenge for the modern pootie. Most hoomins are willing to spend their single life in search of the instant gratification of the mediocre cheeseburger. The modern pootie has no understanding or patience for this.

The following post is a brief history of the search for cheeseburger purr-fection.

The Daily F Bomb

This is a diary I have been posting every day on the GOS since Jan stopped doing J Town (she made me do it!). Half of my fan base has moved over here, so I shall be doing some cross-posting.   Today’s very important issues are: “Grow” as a transitive verb: Annoying? Is Auto-Tune the worst trend to happen to music in decades? If not, what is? Maraschino cherries: Food or decoration? Does anyone take Luke Russert seriously? Purple or Orange?

Apparently no tweets allowed, sorry!

And now, time for your history lesson!

Firearms Legislation

A proposed simple approach to Firearms legislation. My views on the issue are rooted in the following:

1) The Second Amendment establishes a right for Americans to own firearms. It also allows for sensible regulation thereof.

2) With Rights come Responsibilities.

3) Your rights end where someone else’s begins.

With that……..

I'll always be a Republican

I’ll always be a Republican, much in the same way that I’ll always be a dumb ‘ole Iowa farmboy. It’s the way I grew up; it’s where I came from. No matter how far I’ve moved on from that time- and I’d say it’s probably the same for anyone- your roots leave their mark on you.

The Motley Moose was founded as a moderate, inclusive, progressive place to discuss politics and the path of our country. With a unique voices from other places like MyDD, DailyKos, LittleGreenFootballs, etc, something that can’t be found anywhere else on the internet. But even so, the general audience on this site skews heavily to the left.

So what brings me here? Why do I hang around?
