Happy Happy Joy Joy – Open Art Thread

Pssssst!

This is HappyinVT’s cat painting.  It’s not really what she requested at all, but it’s what she got.

Photobucket

It’s a Manekineko (japanese beckoning cat), meant to be welcoming, lucky, and pseudo-representative of Happy herself.  Can you spot how?

This is the openest of open threads.  Anyone have any art, photography, poetry, or music to share?  The floor is yours.

How cool!  I get a whole diary about me.  ðŸ™‚

I was going to say something snarky about being white or something but I can’t.  It’s beautiful.

Maneki Neko can be found with either the right or left paw raised (and sometimes both). The significance of the right and left raised paw differs with time and place. The most common belief is that the left paw raised brings in customers, while a right paw brings wealth and good luck, although some believe the opposite. Still others say that a left paw raised is best for drinking establishments, the right paw for other stores. (Those who hold their liquor well are called hidari-kiki in Japan, “left-handed”.)[2]

heh.  I am left-handed but literally not as suggested here.

We might have a problem considering where I was thinking about putting this…if you get my drift.  Not sure I need a beckoning cat with an upraised left arm (seeking customers) anywhere near my womanly parts.   🙂

  4. I’ve been remiss on working on my art lately. I’ve taken a few photos, but nowhere near as many as I should have. And I haven’t drawn anything for quite awhile. I have been writing a bit, but, again, not anywhere near as much as I should. Here’s my latest. Hope this isn’t a visual arts thread. 🙂

I’m not completely happy with it, yet. I do think it has potential, tho.

    Dream Catcher

Where do dreams go when they die?

Do they vanish like a puff of smoke?

Or, do they flutter off to some unknown

plane where they pile up in windrows

to be collected and pinned to a board,

like the faded trophies of a lepidopterist,

to be displayed for the amusement of the gods?

Republican aides, reporting the decision, interpreted it to mean the House would have to clear the Senate bill and President Obama would have to sign it before the reconciliation bill could be passed. House leaders had been hoping that the two bills could be passed almost simultaneously.

The parliamentarian, however, later reportedly clarified his position to Senate aides, saying that the reconciliation bill could be written in a way that would not require Obama to sign the Senate bill into law before the reconciliation bill is voted on.

President Barack Obama delayed next week’s Asian trip on Friday to seize on suddenly improved prospects for his sweeping health care legislation, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi forecast final passage of the overhaul in days.

    snip

Pelosi said it appeared a second administration priority, far-reaching changes in the student loan industry, would be added to the legislation. The measure would have the government originate assistance to needy college students, ending a system that has allowed banks and other private lenders to do so at a fee.

I’m not generally a fan of adding stuff to a bill that doesn’t have anything to do with the original bill but if this is what it takes to git ‘er done I’ll take it.

Bring signs, lawn chairs or blankets, bottled water and patriotism.  Watch Joe the not-really-a-plumber and Victoria WHO? Jackson.

    No thanks!
