**edit: Yeah, Kysen is outed as a non-football fan, tonight is not Super Bowl..it is the 2010 AFC-NFC Pro Bowl. Super Bowl is NEXT Sunday…and Kysen is stuck with the Grammys (and chili, and nachos, and chips’n’dip, and beer…hmmm..perhaps the Grammys can be fun as well. Or not.)…and I bet the commercials suck during the Grammys.  ðŸ˜‰

Super Bowl XLIV (that’s Super Bowl 44 for the non-Romans) is scheduled to kick off at 6:30pm(EST)

(yeah yeah yeah…I know, I know..NEXT SUNDAY. lol).

The Colts and the Saints go toe to toe for this year’s Super Bowl. Peyton Manning is QBing for the Colts, while Drew Brees is QBing for the Saints. While the Indianapolis Colts have previous Super Bowl experience (most recently a win in 2006…Super Bowl XLI), this is a first time for the New Orlean’s Saints…a fact that has Bourbon street primed for revelers (are they ever not primed?) no matter who wins. I am rootin’ for the Saints…gotta love the underdog. Truth be told, though, I really just watch for the commercials (and the excuse to drink lots of beer and gorge myself on artery clogging foods).

While I have won possession of the remote tonight, my wife has commandeered Tivo….so, the Grammys will be recorded for our future viewing ‘pleasure’ (/retch).

The Grammys this year actually do have some artists I enjoy (problem is, they are scattered in amongst many I don’t). I am pulling for Kings of Leon for Record of the Year, probably Black Eyed Peas for Album of the Year, no preference for Song of the Year, leaning MGMT for Best New Artist, Adele for Best Female Performance, no preference for Best Male Performance, The Fray or MGMT for Best Pop Performance by a Group….and that is all I feel like lookin’ at at the moment…lol. Hopefully a full viewing of the Grammys is not in my future…keep your fingers crossed for me.

MGMT- Kids:

The Black Eyed Peas- I Got A Feeling:

Kings Of Leon- Use Somebody:

Adele- Hometown Glory:

What are your thoughts?

Who are you rooting for?

Do you give a damn?

Tastes Great or Less Filling?

I care less in the world about… than the Super Bowl and the Grammys. Like, it’s like a war in my mind between “don’t give a damn” and “painfully don’t give a damn.” Like the two most boring things I can think of, competing for which can be less interesting. I would rather watch sewing. In fact, **crosses fingers** is there a sewing show on anywhere tonight? Please god tell me there is.

    The boredom… it burns.

Thanks for the open thread though — I’m sure I will use it for other purposes tonight. ; )

Yes, I am now well aware that tonight is not the Super Bowl but the Pro Bowl.

Tebow played at Florida ( Go Gators!) and might go down as one of the best college football players ever. He will be starring in an add/commercial (30 second spot) with an anti choice message.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

A commercial featuring Tim Tebow and his mother Pam that is likely to air during Super Bowl XLIV may be rife with inaccuracies, according to power lawyer Gloria Allred.

The ad, which is expected to promote an anti-choice message, will be based on the theme “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.” The Christian conservative group Focus on the Family has paid for the spot. James Dobson, the group’s founder, has a history of inflammatory statements and once said that gay marriage will “destroy the earth.”

    Sponsored by James Dobson.

Being the douchebags they are, CBS rejected an ad from a gay dating website.

Here’s the thing with CBS (CBS)’s decision to allow Focus on the Family to run  a pro-life Super Bowl ad featuring Christian college football star Tim Tebow: It looks hypocritical for network to reject Mancrunch.com’s bid to advertise its gay internet dating ad in the same slot (video below). Which means that FOF’s ad may have opened the door for the first proper gay ad on the Super Bowl. Unintended consequences! And yet that is the path CBS has chosen.

    This. Is. Bullshit.

  4. no idea just how funny this thread is for some obvious and not-so-obvious reasons. but indeed i am upstairs watching the grammys, i am a bit behind on the PVR and the man is downstairs watching football.

    grammys=lame

pro-bowl=lame (but I’m taking the colts in the big one.)

After another long walk in the desert, I visited a cool bookstore today, called the ‘Readers Oasis’ in the small town of Quartzsite, Arizona.  Lot’s of cool old books, and the proprietor is quite a character.

    Brace yourselves:

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate had her political organization spend more than $63,000 on what her reports describe as “books for fundraising donor fulfillment.” The payments went to Harper Collins, her publisher, and in some instances to HSP Direct, a Virginia-based direct mail fundraising firm that serves a number of well-known conservative politicians and pundits.

I’m guessing she got some kind of discount/bulk rate so at $12(roughly 50% cover price) a pop that’s 5,250 books.

    That is just borderline batshit.

Fire Dog Lake has become the official home base for the teabaggers on the left.

    Terrorist?

    Really?

    Wow.
