Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

The Lounge: Mind’s Eye Moose

You ever develop an image in your mind of what someone looks like based solely upon their writing? An image that forms over time as you read their words/thoughts/ideas? I do, I have done it A LOT since I started reading blogs.

What Next For Egypt?

The time limit imposed by the Egyptian military ran out at 4pm Egyptian time (10am EST). President Morsi had been given 48 hours to take actions to calm the massive protests roiling across the country. He failed to act and the military has now announced the suspension of the Egyptian constitution pending new elections.

It amazes me how quickly this has all transpired.

Once again, the world’s eyes are upon Egypt.

The Lounge: Belief-O-Matic

Welcome, all ye who enter here, to a Lounge’y diary that really ought be titled: ‘Kysen is Bored’

While up to my eyeballs in the (ever so exciting) task of cleaning up my external hard drive…I came across an old set of answers to one of my favorite internet ‘quizzes’.

Since I was, as previously mentioned, rather bored…I decided I would take it again.

Join me below to learn more.

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? (Voting Rights Edition)

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? This was the question posed by Jeff Foxworthy’s (the “you might be a redneck if….” comedian) trivia game show. As viewers quickly learned, no, most of the contestants were NOT smarter than a 5th grader. Facts of history, geography, grammar and more had long slipped from their memories…while the same facts remained fresh in the minds of the 5th grade kids.

The show was mildly entertaining…the contestants were playing for money and the kids seemed to be having a good time. Whether one was as ‘smart’ as a 5th grader or not really didn’t matter, it was a game show, everyone was having fun.

Not so in 1960’s Louisiana…where whether or not you could prove yourself smarter than a 5th grader directly affected your right to vote.

At least, that is, if you were Black.

When Is An Apology Enough (or not)?

I am sitting here pondering the power and/or worth of an apology.

Wondering when something that is deplorable beyond any measure of reason has been apologized for…is it ever really accepted? Should it be?

What has this subject in mind is a blog entry I just read from Alan Chambers, the President of Exodus International.

Yeah, THAT place.

The hateful organization that pushed the Ex-Gay/Gay Reparative Therapy crap onto untold numbers of victims.

What I read was an apology from him to the LGBT Community.

I feel like I am in Bizarro world.

Open Thread: I’m Too Tired For Anything Else

Hey gang…sorry for the lazy diary…however…

I was just cleaning up the BlogRoll and came across this:

http://underthelobsterscope.wo…

I’d already finished the top Roll…but, that just got me kinda down and now I’m headed to bed.

I will clean up the ‘Moose With Blogs’ list another day.

For, now, I just wanted to let everyone know that we had lost a Moose.

I hope that the celebration on June 15th is just that…a celebration. A time of joy and of remembrance.

God bless his family and friends.

R.I.P. Bill

This is an Open Thread…have at it.

G’night all.

The Nation Breathes a Sigh of Relief

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is in custody. He was taken alive with injuries of unknown severity (apparently 1 gunshot wound from last night’s exchange). It seems he was not Mirandized (some legal quirk that allows it in this sort of situation). I don’t know how I feel about that.
