MINOT, N.D. (AP) — It may have looked like Christmas outside, but Ward Nostdahl says it wasn’t reindeer he heard clomping on his roof. Nostdahl called police to report a moose on the roof of his hillside home northwest of Minot.

He said he first saw the moose lying next to his garage door Wednesday afternoon. Game Warden Alan Howard said he and his colleagues chased it into a neighbor’s yard but it came back to Nostdahl’s home. Nostdahl called them back after he heard it on the roof.

Howard said Nostdahl’s earth house is built into a hill, making it easy for the young moose to step up on the roof. The animal had come back down by the time Howard got there, and he said he was able to chase it off the property. He said it headed north.

Now for the more serious one. Someone should diary this one.

NY Times headline – “Obama on Spot as Rulings Aid Gay Partners

WASHINGTON – Just seven weeks into office, President Obama is being forced to confront one of the most sensitive social and political issues of the day: whether the government must provide health insurance benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

In separate, strongly worded orders, two judges of the federal appeals court in California said that employees of their court were entitled to health benefits for their same-sex partners under the program that insures millions of federal workers.

But the federal Office of Personnel Management has instructed insurers not to provide the benefits ordered by the judges, citing a 1996 law, the Defense of Marriage Act.

As a presidential candidate, Mr. Obama said he would “fight hard” for the rights of gay couples. As a senator, he sponsored legislation that would have provided health benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

Now, Mr. Obama is in a tough spot…

I am back in writers block land. Real life has laid a massive, nasty, curly turd on me this last week. I wish I had HappyinVT’s courage to talk about such personal issues.

I will say the absolute joy of my life (besides Ani, the kids, and da Moose) is the news. I do not know why, but watching the news has become the constant background of my life. In the morning, the chaotic insanity that is Morning Jughead gets my blood roiling. It is just like a morning run, right?

Throughout the day I leave the news to background, and stop to listen when something new pops up. I used to hate Andrea Mitchell, but she has grown on me lately. I love Nora O’Donnel’s laugh and Contessa Brewer made it with me when she accused Pat Buchanan of using a Dad voice on her.

Finally; Chris (keep the bromance going, dude) Matthews, Keith (oy vey) Olbermann, and Rachel (sigh/swoon) Maddow; get my brain rocking with the lovely left leaning madness that is MSNBC in the evening.

Lately the news has made me laugh insanely. Hmmmmmmm.
