ACTION ALERT: Tell Obama & Congress to Support Family Planning Health Care!

(Proudly cross-posted at C4O Democrats)

I just found this at TalkLeft. After all the hell progressive/feminist activists raised over needed family planning funds being cut from the economic stimulus package, President Obama may be listening to our concerns after all. And better yet, he may be willing to do something about it!

Women’s health advocates were dismayed this week to see the removal of family-planning aid from Congress’ economic recovery bill after a push by Republicans to politicize a generally cut-and-dry issue of Medicaid waivers. […] But the dismay may not last long. A source present at today’s White House signing ceremony for the Lilly Ledbetter bill tells me that President Obama gave assurances that the family planning aid would be done soon — perhaps as soon as next week, when the House is set to take up a spending bill that would keep the government funded until October.

But hey, you know me better than to think I’ll just “hope” that Congress just magically includes this in the spending bill next week. No, we need to make it happen!

Why the anger in me sometimes rages on and on….

Maybe it’s my age.  Maybe it’s just me. Maybe it’s my years and years of frustration.

Yesterday I had some disagreements here and elsewhere over the Bush I stupidity. From my vantage point, I saw more commenters take the “see Bill Clinton is really the jerk” stance than Bush I defines who and what the right was and remains.

While we can debate forever about Bill’s response, the truth is it is a judgment call…quite subjective.  Some saw Bill’s reaction confirming Bush’s sexism, and in a sense wishing he could be like him, while others saw Bill reacting the only way he could; acknowledging it was wrong, and acknowledging that because it was a Bush, the press would give him a pass.  More to come…

"Joan Walsh: No Plans to Marry Dick Armey"

From Salon yesterday.

Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 18:30 EST

Former Rep. Dick Armey (R-Texas) still needs some lessons in etiquette.

Armey, who once referred to fellow Rep. Barney Frank as “Barney Fag,” lost his temper during an appearance with Salon editor in chief Joan Walsh on MSNBC’s Hardball Wednesday, and lashed out, saying:

I am so damn glad that you could never be my wife, ’cause I surely wouldn’t have to listen to that prattle from you every day.

Joan responded, “Well, that makes two of us.” She’ll have more to say in her blog later on.

The insanity starts around 6 minutes, but the entire exchange is very interesting.

I long for the day when we no longer need to deal with Dicks.

Don't Demonize Debt

As Wall Street continues its slow-motion hari kari, tens of millions of people on the lower-end of the income spectrum are finding that their access to credit is becoming all but nonexistent. As banks set aside ever more cash to cover themselves against potential future losses, the credit spigot that flowed so promiscuously to riskier customers is now not flowing at all.

The age of reason…Part 1 The Kushans

I am a newly registered user here.  I am also a newly registered user at MyDD (although I have read myDD for over 5 years now).  Yesterday, I posted a diary there in response to a diary by user “Canadian Gal”.  In the comments, user “spacemanspiff” suggested that I cross post the diary here.  I am greatful to “spacemanspiff” for introducing me to this blog… and please be gentle (I am relatively new to this blogging thing)

And so, I am copying that diary below the fold.

41's "Ugly" Feminist "Joke" with 42's Follow Up

Bush 41 and Clinton teamed up to address the National Auto Dealer’s Association conference, and H.W. brought down the house with a “joke” about one of the “ugliest” women he has ever seen.

Thank GOD that Wolf Blitzer can tell me that it was a “lighter” moment.

Where the Hell is Matt? Nah, seriously, where is he?

In 2006 Matt traveled to 39 countries in 6 months. Later he traveled to 42 countries in 14 months and used a cast of thousands to make this video. So who is Matt? From his website

Matt is a 32-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut who used to think that all he ever wanted to do in life was make and play videogames. Matt achieved this goal pretty early and enjoyed it for a while, but eventually realized there might be other stuff he was missing out on. In February of 2003, he quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and used the money he'd saved to wander around Asia until it ran out…

Matt lives in Seattle, Washington with his girlfriend, Melissa, and dog, Sydney. He hasn't had a real job since Stride called him up. Matt doesn't mind working, but he doesn't much care for having to show up at the same place every day.

So can you dance like Matt? Supposedly Matt's dancing has evolved from 2006 to 2008 trip. Do you like to visit foreign lands like Matt?…

Did you enjoy the background music in the video. Do you know where is it from?

Global Warming "Irreversible"

A recent study conducted by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) found that global warming may already be irreversible, even in the event of significant and immediate reduction in carbon emissions worldwide. According to the study, the Arctic has already plummeted over a precipice and passed the point at which global warming might have been halted or substantially slowed.
