Honoring Our Veterans

Our nation is truly magnificent.  Veterans Day is our chance to honor and thank those who dedicated their lives and were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great country.

Open Thread : Anybody still up? (latin remix) – MUSIC INSIDE!

I listen to a lot of music.

A lot you guys listen to. Some you don’t.

But I’m going to give you the crash course on the latino thing.

From my hometown of Ponce.

The Legend.

Bachata.

The groups name is Aventura.

What’s been happening?

A 70 Year-Old Lesson.

Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, Nazi Germany’s pogrom that signaled the beginning of the Holocaust and the stripping of rights of European Jewry. Two hundred synagogues were burned, Jewish businesses throughout Germany and Austria were looted, which eventually led to the deportation of tens of thousands of Jews to concentration camps.

So as we remember the crimes against humanity of which my grandparents were victims of, I want to express my outrage while invoking Godwin’s Law with regard to Prop 8.

It is outragous that in the year 2008 – that the LGBT community was stripped of their equal rights.  ALL of those that voted for Prop 8 deserve shame and ought to listen carefully to the following:…

You’re on the wrong side of history.

The World Turns Toward America

As the world turns favorable eyes on America again, there is one group that is upset.  Outcast.  Disowned, discouraged and disenfranchised.

Terrorists, Extremists and Despots.

We’ll just call them TED.  TED ain’t happy.

Activist-singer Miriam Makeba dies in Italy at 76

ROME (AP) – Miriam Makeba, the South African folk singer and anti-apartheid activist fondly known as “Mama Africa,” died early Monday in southern Italy after performing at a concert against organized crime, hospital officials said. She was 76.

The emergency room of the Pineta Grande Clinic, a private facility in Castel Volturno, near Naples, confirmed Italian news reports that the singer had died after being brought there.

The ANSA news agency reported that Makeba apparently suffered a heart attack just at the end of the concert, where she had sung for about 30 minutes to show solidarity for Italian journalist Roberto Saviano, who received death threats after writing a book about the Camorra, the Naples-area crime syndicate.

The news of Makeba’s death caused shock and grief in South Africa.

Get Out There and Step on Some Turtles!

As many of you know (or don’t know) I’ve been having a lot of real life drama these last 2 months. They coincided with the launch of the Moose. I remember thinking I could never blog again and at 1 time, bid my farewell. Thinking I’d wouldn’t be back in a long time.

Here we are.

I should of known better.

Why Organize?

The following is an article written by one Barack H. Obama.  A mostly unknown young man of twenty-seven years of age, Mr. Obama is a community organizer in Chicago.  The following is an interesting piece, and while Mr. Obama is a  relatively obscure individual, the tone and content I believe speaks to our own efforts at organization and activism to improve the lot of mankind in this world.

Keep an eye on this young man, he just might be something someday.

Do Democrats really eat their own?

One political belief I’ve run across for years is that the reason the Democrats have trouble holding onto power is that they are continually fighting amongst themselves. I usually dismissed this claim as one more exaggeration promulgated by the MSM and Republicans. The events of the last year have caused me to rethink the whole issue.

There is no doubt that the primary wars were bitter and divisive. It wasn’t surprising, given how competitive the battle was right up until the end. Surprisingly enough, the party managed to pull together by election day, except for a few splinter groups. This was a big disappointment to the news media and an even bigger disappointment to the Republicans.

As an outsider, I’m an independent voter, the quick recovery of the Democratic coalition after the primaries convinced me that infighting among the Dems was an over-hyped myth. Boy, was I ever wrong.
