Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

It Doesn't Effing Work!

Another grad student taught me this neat study trick to get A’s on all my exams without having to study.  The upside is that it is easy and perfectly legal.  The downside is that I had to try it 183 times before it worked.  Oh, and now I learn it might not be that legal.  But it’s a great study method, I swear!  You should try it.

I’m not that stupid, but those it appears that politicians and their right-wing cheerleaders who believe that everything they see on 24 is real are that stupid.  According to the New York Times, intelligence officials had to use water boarding more than 200 times to extract information from two detainees.

From MSNBC, short and sweet:

The Iowa Supreme Court says the state’s same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making it the third state where gay marriage is legal.

Politico has a copy of the ruling.

A Proportional Response

The debate over the behavior of the IDF during the conflict in Gaza reminded me of an episode from the first season of West Wing, “A Proportional Response”.  At the beginning of the episode, a jet carrying American citizens, President Bartlett’s personal doctor among them, is blown up by terrorists connected to the Syrian government.

Should We Investigate?

Until now, I have generally been opposed to an investigation of the Bush administration, but a man I respect, Paul Krugman, and a man who makes my skin crawl, Keith Olbermann made strong cases for pulling back the curtain and taking a look at the Bush years.

"Change"

A Chicago Gay and Lesbian newpaper, the Windy City Times, has unearthed a candidate issue survey written by then Illinois State Senate Candidate Barack Obama in 1996.  What is notable about this document is what has changed.  Take a look at number 6:
