As I have said numerous times, my autographed Bill Clinton “My Life” original hard cover copy is one of my most prized possesions.
No. I’m not some groupie who demands honour for the Clintons (heh).
I’ve just always digged how good he was at what he did.
I was dissapointed in him a few times during the primary even when I knew this was just part of the political game.
That’s all it is. It’s the reason Bush and McCain made peace.
No hard feelings. This is a sport to them (and me).
Politics.
Which is why I’ve always been a HUGE William Jefferson Clinton fan.
His abilities as a politician are remarkable. You can say whatever you want about him.
Dude plays the game hard.
I remember all the pre Convention drama about what he would say.
What did you think he would say?
This is part of what he did say.
(emphasis mine)
Barack Obama is ready to lead America and restore American leadership in the world. Ready to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States.
He will work for an America with more partners and fewer adversaries. He will rebuild our frayed alliances and revitalize the international institutions which help to share the costs of the world’s problems and to leverage our power and influence. He will put us back in the forefront of the world’s fight to reduce nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and to stop global warming. He will continue and enhance our nation’s global leadership in an area in which I am deeply involved, the fight against AIDS, TB and malaria, including a renewal of the battle against HIV/AIDS here at home. He will choose diplomacy first and military force as a last resort. But in a world troubled by terror; by trafficking in weapons, drugs and people; by human rights abuses; by other threats to our security, our interests, and our values, when he cannot convert adversaries into partners, he will stand up to them.
Barack Obama also will not allow the world’s problems to obscure its opportunities. Everywhere, in rich and poor countries alike, hardworking people need good jobs; secure, affordable healthcare, food, and energy; quality education for their children; and economically beneficial ways to fight global warming. These challenges cry out for American ideas and American innovation. When Barack Obama unleashes them, America will save lives, win new allies, open new markets, and create new jobs for our people.
Most important, Barack Obama knows that America cannot be strong abroad unless we are strong at home.
People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power.
Kind of says it all …. huh?
He knows what is needed and he understands how important it is to have the big guns out there.
Hillary will be our top diplomat abroad.
The country and the world needs this.
Bill Clinton understands what is at stake.
That’s the most important trait for me ….
Bill Clinton is a team player.
Always has been.
Minor proof?
Bill Clinton robocalling in Georgia.
Major proof?
Bill Clinton giving up A LOT to do whatever it takes to have Hillary rep the USA as SoS.
Concessions by former President Clinton
To make it possible for his wife to become the top U.S. diplomat, the officials said, former President Clinton agreed:
-to disclose the names of every contributor to his foundation since its inception in 1997 and all contributors going forward.
-to refuse donations from foreign governments to the Clinton Global Initiative, his annual charitable conference.
-to cease holding CGI meetings overseas.
-to volunteer to step away from day to day management of the foundation while his wife is secretary of state.
-to submit his speaking schedule to review by the State Department and White House counsel.
-to submit any new sources of income to a similar ethical review.
Bill Clinton’s business deals and global charitable endeavors had been expected to create problems for the former first lady’s nomination. But in negotiations with the Obama transition team, the former president agreed to several measures designed to bring transparency to those activities.
“It’s a big step,” said Sen. Richard G. Lugar of Indiana, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who said he plans to vote to confirm Clinton.
Taking one for the team ….
…and the wallet.
Bill is the shizznet.
