    66 degrees in Winchester, VA. Headed down to 58, then back up to 85.

    This weekend’s plans include a 10.2 mile hike with 2000 feet of elevation change on Saturday and a pretty level 7 mile circuit of the National Arboretum on Sunday.

    What are your big plans?

    We are headed out to Franklin and Marshall in a few minutes. The Phi Beta Kappa ceremony takes place this morning. Rob’s graduation is tomorrow morning. I am so proud of him.

    It is 65 degrees in Madison and the expected high is … 65 degrees!! So this is it, I guess. Storms later.

    Yesterday we got into the 80s which was Too Warm for May. I couldn’t sleep with the windows open because the wind was coming from just the right directions that it made a racket. So today will be a grumpy day.

    As you can imagine, I am following the story about the rogue federal judge in Milwaukee very closely. An FEC member, Ann Ravel weighed in on his “ruling” and had a few things to say:

    I think essentially what he’s saying isn’t the law. He has cut and pasted a lot of decisions, a lot of language from various decisions, in a way that is actually not applicable. And if it were to be carried out to its full meaning, there would be very few campaign [finance] laws that would continue to be able to be enforced.

    There is a lot more troubling about this than simply his opinion. A federal judge stepped in to stop an investigation into state laws that were broken … not to weigh in on a conviction or even an indictment … to stop the investigation. And ordered all the evidence to be destroyed. Sheesh!

    This judge has a history of being wrong and wrong in very big ways. And, thankfully, his history includes being overridden by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals quite often … the last one came with a serious rebuke.

    Anyway, it isn’t over yet.

    Eating breakfast, drinking tea. Just enough rain yesterday to get the streets wet. Sigh. 30% chance of more today. Sigh. Our drought is “severe”, counties to the west are “exceptional”.

    I see Tony Perkins doesn’t think me or anyone who goes to my church are “real” Christians. I feel kinda sad for him. And ironically, the song playing in my head is In The End – “in the end, there’s nothing more to life than love, is there?”

    On her FB page, Silver Ravenwolf is asking about what people are working to help the girls in Nigeria. Of the 2 people, I’m pretty sure I know which one Jesus would have approved of.

    clean off my solar panels and fill the birdbath with clean water.  And even with cloud cover all day my PV system generated 3.8 KW (just about my average daily non-A/C use).  Still cloudy.  Don’t know if we’ll get more rain.  We need it, but nothing like folks points west do.  The problem with modern water systems – both the clean water and the disposal of dirty water – is they are either on or not.  There is no way to enforce rationing by reducing the flow.  The best that could be done is shut it off certain hours of the day which basically means serious overdraw the hours it was on if I know the average American.  Sigh.

    Wish I could think of something cheerful and uplifting to bring to the party.  The only uplifting thought I have is that there is a “party” to bring things to.  {{{HUGS}}} to Moosylvania and thanks for being here.

    Last night was the Night from Hell–hardly any sleep because despite the open windows and the fans, it was just too hot. Also, Someone in my bed had restless leg syndrome, so finally I got up and went to bed in Granddaughter’s room. (We keep a room for her because she stays overnight a lot.) I really feel like…well, I won’t say. Today’s cartoon is hilarious, iriti, thanks for the smile!

    Plans for the day: finish planting the zinnias, go to Lowe’s to get the fencing and gray paint for the front, type a list of projects for the landscape gardener who’s coming round tomorrow while I’m out. Hubby will have to deal. Also must think of something for dinner. Tonight is a Chicken Night because we had fish last night. For once, I remembered to put the crabmeat in the Crabmeat Pasta Salad last night! It’s so delicious anyway one hardly needs the crabmeat.

    Have not written a thing all week. I’m just tired. Probably ought to e-mail the doctor that my vertigo has returned, but very likely I’ll just have to put up with it. One cannot take Prednisone for the rest of one’s life.

    Denise, I’m going to check out your Greenwald links. Oh, how fussy our little mannikin gets when attention is diverted from him! Ye gods.

    We enjoyed her music last night. It’s a small club and thanks to a dinner delay we were late but thanks to my cane the owner created front row seats just for us. My head is still full of music 🙂

    It was nice to chat with the band after…. her first baby is due in June, and the guitar player is 70 yrs old!
