  Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. Snow again here. 3rd accumulating snow so far this year, more than we had all last winter.

    This is today’s high – it’s supposed to hold steady here all day. 60’s by end of week. So much for keeping this snow for a white Christmas.

    Crazy week ahead. Traffic court w/Kidlet tonight. To Long Island on business tomorrow, back Wednesday evening. Celebrating Christmas Thursday evening as hubs is having major hand surgery on Friday.

    Tired already.

    It is -2 here but the good news is that there is no wind so it feels like -2. Wait. That is not such good news … more like “better” news. It is expected to reach 17 degrees with a snow squall expected this afternoon.

    A FAST MOVING WEATHER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BRING 2 TO 3 HOURS OF SNOW THIS AFTERNOON. ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED IN THE MADISON AREA FROM ROUGHLY NOON TO 2 PM AND IN THE MILWAUKEE AREA FROM 2 TO 4 PM.

    WE CURRENTLY EXPECT ABOUT AN INCH OF SNOW CLOSE TO THE ILLINOIS BORDER AND 1 TO 2 INCHES ELSEWHERE. TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE TEENS DURING THE SNOWFALL… WHICH MAY RENDER ROAD CONDITIONING LIKE SALT LESS USEFUL.

    It should be cleared up by the time the kids get on buses to come home but I think this means that the errands I had planned for early afternoon should be done this morning.

    I have one of those busy weeks also, iriti. This is the last week before winter break so there is a lot going on at my daughter’s school. Plus I am still trying to get my  end-of-year projects done. I intend to make huge inroads into that today … my plan is to drink moar coffee.

    25 degrees, more snow on the way but I’m celebrating.

    Got up to let the dogs out last night – checked the news and saw that Michelle Bachelet had won election in Chile!

    Have short diary up and am toasting her win with strong Spanish coffee!

    Barack Obama on Social Darwinism and Collective Salvation circa 2005/06

    She mined a repository of Barack Obama speeches from before he ran for president and points out that the rise of income inequality is not a new theme for him. From a Knox College speech:

    Like so much of the American story, once again, we face a choice. Once again, there are those who believe that there isn’t much we can do about this as a nation. That the best idea is to give everyone one big refund on their government – divvy it up into individual portions, hand it out, and encourage everyone to use their share to go buy their own health care, their own retirement plan, their own child care, education, and so forth.

    In Washington, they call this the Ownership Society. But in our past there has been another term for it – Social Darwinism, every man and woman for him or herself. It’s a tempting idea, because it doesn’t require much thought or ingenuity. It allows us to say to those whose health care or tuition may rise faster than they can afford – tough luck. It allows us to say to the Maytag workers who have lost their job – life isn’t fair. It let’s us say to the child born into poverty – pull yourself up by your bootstraps…

    There’s more.

    His philosophy is the polar opposite of Paul Ryan’s and that is good news for America. Because it really isn’t the Tea Party that we have to worry about, they are simply the latest faux populist group that the Republicans use to gin up outrage every generation or so. The real enemy is the philosophy of the Republican Party: Social Darwinism. If you get sick die, if you are without shelter, freeze, if you have no food, starve. THAT is not new and it will not go away when the tea runs out. It will just have a new look to try to make it attractive to young people (Rand Paul!!) or centrists (Chris Freaking Christie!!).

    For humiliating a common rival foe we cannot abide. We do not like America’s Tomb (Dallas) nor the nameless team from DC. the Ny team doesn’t even like itself.

    but the spectacular green packular team was smackular to the Jerry Jones and Decembered them so impossibly it was another Romo oh no and last laughed good as ever.

    (pologize for sporting talk, but jan fab deserves an accolade next to her coffee; as probably most or all moose do except the wrongteamers.)

    Brrr! It didn’t freeze, but 37 is plenty cold for me. Eating my vegetable-laden breakfast & drinking tea. I had a really lousy night’s sleep last night – didn’t feel like I lost consciousness at all, but I feel surprisingly ok. I lost the nail on my right big toe earlier this fall & the one growing back in is ingrown & can be really painful, especially at night. Gotta stop at the pharmacy on the way home & get some Outgrow. They do still make that stuff, right? Most of the advice I find online is about already existing nails.

    Anyway, today: stay awake, pharmacy on the way home, get prepared for tomorrow evening

    earworm from a cd of a past year’s Christmas music from church, it’s an African song (our choir director has been to Cameroon twice, on a project to do with hymnals), anyway, it’s “sing Noel” with a lot of drums

    traditions for my younger son.  After 5 weeks of basic agony being more or less (mostly less) treated with steroidal and non-steroidal drugs, he finally requested an MRI – and discovered he has a herniated disc and the herniation is pressing against his sciatic nerve.  He’s scheduled to see a neurosurgeon tomorrow.  How soon anything can/will be done about it, well, we’re waiting to see – but if you want to see some “Mama Cat Angry” you should have seen me after I got off the phone with him.  WHAT THE EFF is it with this G**D***** medical industry that they drug first and only look 5 weeks later if requested?  And mostly that’s a reaction to hearing my not-quite 40 y.o. son almost crying voice while he was telling me about it and not being able to do anything to ease his pain.  Any and all help is appreciated – I may not always be sure of who or what I have faith in, but I have an abiding faith in the power of faith.  Thank you.  bf

    This is the gospel according to the weatherbug thingy on my Google sidebar.

    Good morning, everyone! Late to the party as usual am I. About to leave the house to embark on the first of a long, long series of errands. Monty woke us up at 5:45 this morning by crying outside our bedroom door. Finally, Dearly got up and made the early morning tea, which we drank at 6:30. Then I had to run over to my son’s house to take care of Miss Precious.

    Yesterday the two little people, dressed in their finest, behaved like angels at the Teddy Bear Tea at Oatlands Carriage House. Great-nephew’s white shirt, trousers, and waistcoat, and Miss Pink Cheek’s ladybug-like dress, red with black dots, elicited many admiring glances. Granddaughter has been trained since an early age in the art of taking afternoon tea–which is milk with a splash of tea in her case. She ate four gingerbread boys during the meal. Gulp!

    Healing energy to Mr. Iriti and to Bfitz’ son. Rotten time of year to be ill!  Hope both recover quickly.

    Today is mail packages or else day, and given my sleepy start I’m already behind. I really don’t want to pay extra shipping charges for small “thinking of you” gifts.

    Vis Seafoods has a nice selection of local treats and gifts so I’ll be there soon with address, cards to include, and a list for each box. They will pack and ship if I give them enough time….so I will!
