CNN reports that Sarah Palin is now a rogue candidate

(Cross-posted at Clintonistas for Obama)

CNN is reporting that the famously undisciplined campaign of John McCain, someone who during the course of the campaign frequently has been described as erratic, has lost control of Sarah Palin.  McCain aides apparently consider her to be a “rogue” vice presidential candidate.

McCain campaign aides cite several instances where Palin has criticized the campaign and gone off message.  The story notes that a McCain aides complains that “she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.”  This aide said:

She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone. She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.  Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.

Great.  First, the Republican Party thrusts upon the United States a pathological gambler in the person of its presidential nominee, and then he selects for vice president a woman he cannot trust.  Andrew Sullivan asks:

If McCain doesn’t trust her, why should anyone else?

All I can say is this: Barack Obama for president.

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer group of people.  What are the odds that these staffers latch on with Romney or somebody else in four years and give her the full “vetting” process that only Republicans are capable of?

Attacking her relationship with her family – amazing.

If a presidential nominee’s most salient example of executive leadership comes in the form of the vice president pick, then McCain lost this one by a landslide.  This latest news is only going to backfire more and more in their faces.  If Sarah Palin tries to back away from it, then she will be going against he ultimate ambition.  And McCain can’t even bring himself to look at her, just like he couldn’t look at Obama.

It’s funny, you’d think a “rogue” would be a good thing for the guy who keeps calling himself a “maverick”.

  4. McCain looks like an cynical impetuous fool

    and Palin

    something more sinister.

Looks like she actually believes her own bullshit

Better to be a cynic than a megalomaniac

They will try to cut their losses and push the “she was mishandled out of the gates” meme. I believe they did the best job they could with what they were given to work with. Sarah Palin was not ready for primetime and I don’t know if she ever will be.

To quote, my alterego Calvin (when speaking of Moe):

    “He’s street smart.

Which means he knows what street he lives on. “

This is all very worrying to us over here in little old Europe.  What if the ghastly Republicans were to win?  And McCain get tummy ache and have to hand over?  How would la rogue maverick handle a big international crisis?

“Shucks! I pressed the wrong button! Doggone! Lookit that missile go! Betcha they’re gonna know when that one arrives, huh? Say, General Er-whatsyername, what was it aimed at?”

Except that I hate her. So I think I’ll just post pictures from now on when I can’t think of anything to say.

TAMPA, Florida (CNN) – Ensuring that news of the Republican National Committee’s sartorial spending spree will remain in the headlines for at least one more news cycle, Sarah Palin on Sunday sounded off on the $150,000 wardrobe that was purchased for her in September, denouncing the report as “ridiculous” and declaring emphatically: “Those clothes, they are not my property.”

A senior adviser to John McCain told CNN’s Dana Bash that the comments about her wardrobe “were not the remarks we sent to her plane this morning.” Palin did not discuss the wardrobe story at her rally in Kissimmee later in the day.

Who’s going to win out here?

McCain vs. Palin. This is going to be great.
