Motley Monday Happy Labor Day Check In

 photo labor2_zps5c69ea71.png

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope you’re enjoying your Labor Day weekend.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

69 here in the Shenandoah Valley, heading for 90 with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

So I’ve been hiking in the mountains the last few days – a little over 5 miles Saturday, a little over 12 miles yesterday. My Labor Day plans?

  2. Happy Labor Day to you all. I will, myself, labor as though it were a regular work day, having taken off a couple of days to putter around. I am hoping that the absence of incoming phone calls and emails from clients will make it a productive work day.

It is 62 degrees on its way up to 73. The front moved through but did not, unfortunately, give us a lot of rain. The thunderheads were very tall and we could see the tops of them lighting up to the south, part of the line moving through Chicago.

Great labor photos! Here is one of my favorites:

here in the Hudson Valley of NY.

For labor day I honor my grandfather, Dennis Roberts who worked as a porter and waiter on the railroad and was a member of the first black labor union, The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters

This is a great piece from Democracy Now

The Pullman porters played an important but unsung role in the history of this country. In 1925, they formed the first black labor union under the stewardship of A. Philip Randolph. They also helped pave the way for the civil rights movement and are also credited with building the black middle class in this country.

Third day in a row of socializing. Saturday was lunch with E, from my seniors group. Yesterday was a Scrabble game. I’m on their email list for first monday of the month but haven’t attended in months. Today it’s a few people from my regular seniors group, playing cards at a member’s home across the street from me. She lives in the penthouse! I can’t wait to see it, especially the view.

I’m on Day 3 of a sinus headache that hangs in regardless of medications. Sometimes, it likes to fool me by pretending to go away, but resurfacing later. Oh, hai. Did you miss me?

    Actually, no.

So we’re pumping sales, hoping to be able to deposit enough for eBay fees to go through, checking the wanted ads, etc. Yesterday, we got to take FIL refrigerator shopping. If only he would wear deodorant! I perfumed myself in self defense.

Today I’ll be finishing a few little projects, including a new color & design tweak on a watchband. Once that’s done to my satisfaction, it will go up on Etsy, and my Facebook.

    Other than that, it’s yawners.

30% chance, still wil hit 100 today, even with the rain chance

Eating breakfast & watching tv. Derrick Pitts is on, talking about the theory that life originated on Mars.

Today: just groceries, that’s all I can think of that needs doing.

I won’t be able to check in on Tuesday and Wednesday, thanks to some early appointments, so today is for blobbing and blogging and reading. Oh, and cutting roast up into tiny tiny pieces. I cooked one last night, and now I have a cat haunting the space in front of the fridge. 🙂

My otherwise thoughtful neighbor started trimming trees and bringing in blacktop trucks at 6:30 this morning. With the open windows it was a rather rude awakening and I seem to still be cranky about it!

Cat-sitting this weekend for my friend L, who took off for parts unknown (I didn’t ask where, figuring he’d tell me if he thought it was any of my business). Minimal fog this morning but there’s also high overcast.
