Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

59 (?!?!?!?) degrees here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a high of only 75. The 5 day forecast doesn’t show us hitting 80 even one day. This is Really Unusually Mild™ weather for Virginia in August. July had a full 10 degrees cooler average temps than the past three years, we may top that in August.

    ::puts on jacket, shakes head::

Three more days of my current job, all of them spent in a process improvement team (which means at best occasional check-ins here on break). I start my new job on Monday; on Tuesday I travel to New York for the rest of the week. Should be an exciting start!

  2. 48 degrees in Madison WI, expected high of 70.

When I set up swimming lessons for my daughter for the first three weeks of August, I did not think that we would need to worry about the temperature being too cold. That was our 95 degree June. She is being a trouper, though, but it looks pretty silly for me to be sitting by the pool in a sweatshirt.

Lots of offline stuff for me today so I will be scarce. PLEASE stay out of trouble. 🙂

:::waving to Portlaw — even though she is not going to fly over flyover country:::

Speaking of 95 degree Junes and 70 degree Augusts, OFA is Tweeting this image to climate change denying members of Congress. You start on this page to find your Congress Critter: http://www.barackobama.com/climate-deniers and add one of these:

    Voila!!

(Notice that if you read Ron Johnson’s Tweeter name too quickly, it looks like Senor Johnson. That must really tick him off.)

Another completely awful night’s sleep. Definitely less than 5 hours. Now that the blood draw has already been done, it occurs to me to wonder if it is hormone-related. (my heart rate never slowed down last night – you know, when you’re going to sleep, you can feel that “settle down” thing happen before you drift off – it never did last night) Oh, well, too late to get it added to the stuff they’re testing. Eating breakfast & drinking some really serious tea.

It is supposed to rain today – 40% chance. That will probably interfere with the ab class (outdoors), but maybe I’ll just take a walk. Or maybe I’ll be home before it even starts. Sigh.

mid 70’s today.  No rain in sight for the next week.  Have the sprinkler system turned on.  Off to the dentist to have an old filling repaired. – ick…

Another sunny day below 80° today Here Near DC. It’s half price clothing today at Sally’s Thrift Shop. If I get there when it opens, I can find a parking space and won’t have to squeeze between the racks among so many other hoomin beans.

Meanwhile, off to check my bank account. I got a low balance alert. What, me worry?

low humidity and a projected high of 77 F!  Suits me!

This afternoon I’ll make chicken pot pies for hubby and granddaughter to pop into the oven while I’m at a political meeting from 6 until 8. Not sure whether I’m going to work Thursday afternoon or Friday afternoon this week, but I’ve got great-nephew and his mom coming to tea on Friday.  When we pick up granddaughter from day care she’ll stay the night with us.

So it’s a busy end of the week!  Feeling relieved because I made progress on the book review yesterday and might be able to finish it today.

Had an awful night–couldn’t get to sleep until 12:30, up again at 4:30, not sure what happened but it isn’t good.

Hope everyone enjoys a day of beautiful weather!

Gorgeous weather today.  It is 59 going to 74.  Dry and sunny and PERFECT!  School supply shopping with my soon to be kindergartner this afternoon.  I hope I don’t cry the whole time and ruin it for her.  My son is sitting next to me begging for the iPad.  Gotta go!

    Have a great day everyone.

here in the Hudson Valley – which is really weird weather for August in NY.

iriti I join Portlaw in a warm New Yawker welcome to you since you are heading to the Big Apple 🙂

Khloe was up and out at the crack of dawn, while I’m still staggering around with a coffee cup. I’ll be back when I can see to type. 🙂

  11. Spending the day working on my cookbook. Currently on the Beans section. I’m trying to keep a balance between the meat lovers and the vegetarians in the family. I’m getting requests for some Southern recipes. I’m also getting requests to teach how to cook and how to come up with new recipes and how to alter recipes. I am approaching the 400 mark on recipes and will probably be closer to 500 by the time it is ready to find a publisher for.

The family is packing a picnic and planning a beach hike….I’m going to figure out why my new computer is unhappy with the new Windows’s updates.

I went to Target, Big Lots, Giant Food and the library. The sky was a truly heavenly combination of brilliant blue and puffy white clouds.

I took no pain relievers, and I didn’t have any pain. First time in weeks I’ve done errands without pain.

I think I forgot my meds Monday and Tuesday (took them this morning). I had a great time at the fair yesterday. And I had two glasses of wine last night.

Endorphins? Something in my meds that promotes the pain, so it didn’t? The magic power of cheap wine and Oreo cookie ice cream? A perfect spring day in August?

    Life is truly a mystery.
