Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF! Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

77 here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a high of 93 with a relative humidity of one hundred and eleventy. Tomorrow is our last day of swelter; forecast for the following few days calls for highs in the 90’s.

Denise attempted to send us one of her thunderstorms yesterday, but it turned into sound & fury signifying nothing. We got a few loud cracks, but the rain missed us by inches.

Going to try a short but steep hike tomorrow, weather and my knee permitting.

    Happy Friday, all!

  2. 72 degrees on the way up to 95 here. I am overlooking one of Missouri’s manmade lakes. Missouri is one of the few (only?) states that has no natural lakes.

I am about to go sit on the deck with my coffee and watch for eagles fishing. Yesterday afternoon we watched the hummingbirds fighting, quite unnecessarily …. there was plenty of nectar for all of them.

I took a different route to Missouri than I usually do and will not take that way back. I was reminded of how flat Illinois is … it made me long for Iowa and that is ridiculous! 🙂

    Coffee’s done. See you later!

…to you peeps in more eastern parts. (Good middle-of-the-night to me!)

Yes, I’m up way too early again. I think my lunch yesterday didn’t agree with me or something, because it’s not a sleep issue per se. I didn’t nap at all yesterday and got plenty of exercise, and went to bed around midnight. So who knows?

Anyway, yesterday afternoon I went over to another part of town, leaving the fog for warm sunshine. My friend and I walked around the Castro neighborhood, had lunch at a sidewalk bistro, then went off for a beer at a bar with sunny outdoor patio. I felt like I was almost able to shake off the fog that I’ve been living under for several days.

Came back home to find out that sure enough, the fog never lifted out in my neighborhood. It was good to escape!

  4. Hope all are well out there in Mooseland.

Yesterday later in the day I posted a photo of my medallion quilt top. It still needs to be finished with quilting and binding. It’s about 72″ square and is for ME.

No big plans for the day, but always plenty to do.

expect a cool down tomorrow.  Rain is once again in our forecast for the next 10 days.  Finally heard from my sister and bil who are a month-long excursion to Alaska.  They spend the last 2 days in Ft. Nelson, BC and will begin the 1000 mile drive up the Alcan to Tok, AK.  Will take at least 21 hours plus pit stops for the dog.

which has cheered me right up. The old dog did well with her dental work, it helps that everyone at our local vet clinic really likes her so they give her lots of special attention. I think they just like working with a chihuahua that doesn’t bite.

This often-overlooked number is from White Christmas. I wish I could say I was this good back in my song-and-dance days, but I wasn’t. BTW, this reminds me that So You Think You Can Dance is on TV tonight. I’d love to see them recreate this number; it would be a worthy challenge for the talented young contestants! 🙂

Well, the cool & rain was nice while it lasted. Now it is back to normal July weather – 80 already at 7 am. At least everywhere here is air conditioned.

I wrote a diary about the Walk, it has a short video about why I walk.

Have fallen asleep 3 times while I’ve been sitting here eating breakfast & doing the diaries. Wish I could sleep that well at the appropriate time.

Weather stayin’ pretty much the same — today’s range: 64° to 98° with nothing but sunshine.

My mother turns 93 today.  I’m heading to her assisted living facility for luncheon with her.  I’m afraid I’ve been neglecting seeing her as often as I should because of the hectic pace at work.  Now that I’m more fully staffed, that can change.

As for today, I got her a replacement for a cherub figurine which went missing.  Hopefully, that and my appearance will make up for some lost time.

And my comment suffers from multiple episodes of cattus interruptus, as Pumpkin seems to need serial petting.

We’re having coffee, and then off to the farmers market. While we’re there, we’ll check the flea market and the thrift stores along the way for vacs.

    THUNDERSTORMS (boom!) Hudson Valley NY.

feels like its 100 already.  The air is like thick soup.

Got up at 3AM to try to get some writing done when it was a bit cooler here.

Got distracted by a twitter-fed firestorm which someone alerted me to. I have to admit I don’t really “do” twitter, but I have a real interest in theological debates from a cultural anthropology perspective, and a strong interest in the role of the church in the black and latino community so I was glued to the computer reading the attacks on Dr. Anthea Butler, who had posted the following piece to Religion Dispatches:

The Zimmerman Acquittal: America’s Racist God

    http://www.religiondispatches….

The wingnuts of the world are now demanding she be fired.

    Pass me the popcorn.

She is an academic heavyweight, with tenure:

Anthea Butler is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Graduate Chair in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Her most recent book, Women in the Church of God in Christ, Making A Sanctified World published on the University of North Carolina Press, chronicles the history of African American women’s religious lives, and civic engagement in the Church of God in Christ, the largest Pentecostal denomination in the United States. Professor Butler’s forthcoming book, The Gospel According to Sarah: How Sarah Palin and the Tea Party are Galvanizing the Religious Right will be published by The New Press in 2014.

Have no energy to blog this but thought I’d share 🙂

Now, to drink more water, and to try to find a cool spot in this house.

  12. We are getting heat in the 90s with high humidity and sudden rain squalls. Currently over 600% on our rainfall with no end in sight.

Been working on writing as well as art. This picture shows why my main character Sean is going to be badly distracted as he tries to do his job. He has just met the love of his life Princess Jasmine.

The past few days there have been fluctuations in the water pressure coming out of both kitchen and bathroom taps. One time I’ll turn on the kitchen faucet or bathroom shower and it will be fine, another time barely a trickle. I can even see it fluctuate while the faucet is running.

I’m going to email the landlord this morning to let him know. I hope it’s not just my apartment (I don’t want a plumber messing about in my bathroom or kitchen, sorry Glen!) but because it’s affecting all my water outlets I suspect it’s the whole building.

    QC was short (just over 1/2 hour) and quiet last night.  If I didn’t know better, I’d think folks were tiptoeing around trying not to set me off.  Since I know they don’t give a rat’s patootie what I think, it’s probably the Judge they don’t want to set off.  Still can’t enter the GAs – some time or another somebody will get back to me regarding positions and funding.  Until then I guess I’ll go back to filing.  Sigh.  Y’all have a good day and a good weekend.  {{{HUGS}}}

Staunch German Methodists for several generations going back to the Great Awakening, the more apt adjectives would include, “somber,” “austere,” “formal,” and in many ways “rigid.”

I have one sister who definitely knew the meaning of the word “fun,” and could have given Carol Burnett a run for her money had she decided to go into show biz.

My support staff is arriving in five minutes, so I had best start looking like I’m doing something that at least remotely resembles work.  Gotta set an example, don’t you know.  ðŸ˜‰

Went to the mall. At Easy Spirit, found two pairs of leather sandals, buy 1 get 1 half off, both were on sale. The two were about $60.00, the usual price for one pair.

    Didn’t find a bra.

Most of the bras these days are padded, including the large sizes. Honestly, would a DDD size woman want a padded bra? And a lot of the regular big bras are labeled “minimizer.” ::Irony alert::

I have a theory that the padded bras are cheaper to manufacture so they’re pushing them on us, so to speak. Rhona thinks I’m paranoid, can’t imagine why I would think that.

Suggestions for how to research this?

It is a beautiful day in this neighborhood.

I wonder if we could add a blog to our blogroll?  It is called The Christian Left, located at https://www.facebook.com/TheCh

It offers proof that some Christians have not left the teachings.

Round one of oral surgery done. The past few days haven’t been the easiest. Have I told you; I’m the biggest baby about dental work? Now to wait 4-6 months for the gum to heal and then hopefully done with dental work. I got the no good gum/ teeth gene. Enough of griping.

    enjoy
