Says the governor of the state that just executed its 500th inmate. Says the man whose state is on course to execute up to fifteen people this year.
Rick Perry made his remarks at the National Right to Life (Sometimes) conference earlier today. He was actually addressing the successful attempt by State Senator Wendy Davis to block SB5 from passing Tuesday night:
PERRY: In fact, even the woman who filibustered the Senate the other day was born into difficult circumstances. She was the daughter of a single woman, she was a teenage mother herself. She managed to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School and serve in the Texas senate. It is just unfortunate that she hasn’t learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters. http://thinkprogress.org/healt…
Says the man who has signed legislation defunding Planned Parenthood forcing numerous clinics to close. Says the man who turned down the Medicaid Expansion. Says the man who would force girls and women to carry to term children conceived by rape or incest. Says the man who has largely dismantled the safety net many women need to ensure “every life … be given a chance to realize its full potential.”
But that’s okay because we women need a man to explain it to us ’cause we’re too emotional and/or stupid to figure it out ourselves.
In the end, though, Perry wins because there is little chance that SB5 will be blocked again when it comes up in the next special session (fiscal conservatism pales in the face of the “right to life”) next week. Oh, and Perry signed into law the redistricting that could see Davis without a district.
Everything’s bigger in Texas … including the assholes.
