Welcome to Motley Monday, the road trip edition! We will be driving all day so may be least in sight. We will try to pop in now and then from our phones.

    Here in middle-of-nowhere Illinois. No idea what our high temp will be today, as we’ll be a rapidly moving target. We have a hotel reservation in middle-of nowhere Nebraska for tonight.

    i refrained from rec’ing the diary.

    it is 80f (a dry heat) at 3am.  i woke up to check to see if i could open up the house for a couple hours before sunrise.  

    i did open a few windows for the fresh air, but i have not turned on the fans.  

    i will leave a note for daughter to close everything when she gets up.

    62 degrees in Madison WI, expected high of 78 with morning showers.

    Today will be frantic and disjointed. I woke up at 2:30am and tried to get back to sleep but decided at 3am that it was hopeless. I expect to pay the price later.

    about half an hour ago. Quite unexpected! The cats are not fans of the booms and house shakes.

    here in Hudson Valley NY.

    I’m tired from a long day spent at puter yesterday, and have to get some writing done today for tomorrow.

    Will poke my head back in a bit later – off to refill the coffee pot.

    We’ll get out for a walk in a bit, either way. It’s about 59° so not too cold.

    Jim still doesn’t feel great. Hoping this passes quickly. Sucks to be sick your first week of permanent vacation…

    I will humbly ask for more recs on my diary Questions — I have questions! The value is not in my writing but in the comments. Since recs get things on the rec list, keeping it visible longer, more recs would be a great thing.

    I made hummus yesterday and will put up a diary/blog post later on it. It’s so easy, so good, and so much cheaper than purchased hummus.

    many ‘high’ expectations/hopes of working at the company I do.  Nope, ‘standard’ corporate world of BS.  Maybe it’s the team I landed with??  Don’t know….  It’s just a paycheck…

    So I have this friend I used to work with in the 1980s at Presidential Airways and I haven’t seen her for something like 20 years and I see on Facebook she’s in Frederick for her Hood College reunion and Frederick is RIGHT UP THE ROAD!

    I don’t have her email or cell number so I comment on the Facebook post that has her picture in it that I want to see her. She’s not on Twitter but I tweet anyway. And I comment on another picture that her classmate posted. And I decide not to do another thing I was supposed to do because I didn’t have much fun there last year anyway.

    Around 6:00 she calls and THE CALL IS CUT OFF! So I do a *69 and get her cell number but SHE DOESN’T ANSWER! Finally we connect and I dress in four minutes flat and drive up the road and we go to Roy Rogers and close the place down.

    I got home about quarter of twelve, still grinning. It was one of those “pick up right where you left off” things. I can’t remember when I’ve laughed so much.

    Manhattan. Expecting rain. Then some more rain.

    Went to two concerts yesterday which was a bit much but fun. The first was by a group from the Hetherlands playing Renaissance recorders. Have only heard the usual Baroque recorders before, never these. Not even sure I knew of them. They sounded like an organ. Astonishing. One, a sub contra bass, was ten feet tall. Very enjoyable. The other concert was in a community garden and it was three viola de gambas joined a lute playing soprano. It ended with that old, old song, Sumer is icumen in. I can’t get the refrain out of my mind, “Sing cuccu nu. Sing cuccu. Sing cuccu. Sing cuccu nu!” Hope I don’t sing it on the subway. Anyway, happy “Sumer” day to all,

    We might hit 100 later this week. At least our 1st 100 degree day of the year will come at a sensible time, not in March or April like sometimes happens.

    Eating breakfast (steel-cut oats, shitake mushrooms, sundried tomatoes & spinach with nutritional yeast flavoring — it’s pretty good)

    Have to run straight home after work. They’re power washing the building tomorrow & I have to bring all my plants & paraphenalia inside. Sigh. Actually, I have to run by Lowes first – the weather stripping on my front door has been loose for several days, gotta replace that tonight for sure.

    Anyway, that’ll be my day: work, home improvement store, plants.

    be HOT!  Even the foothills around Colorado Springs will be having high temperatures as will the whole of the southwest and California.  The heat will help you drink the amount of water you’ll need to acclimate to the altitude.  

    Safe travels to you.  Going to be hot in Missouri too, well into the 90s by mid-week.

    heading for a hot day in the mid 90s with useless moisture trapped in the air, there’s nothing to spark storms so it will just be muggy. This will be a one day wonder though and then it will go directly to hot ‘n dry. Mr w replaced the kitchen faucet yesterday which of course ended up being much more of a job than anticipated. We have an old house with old plumbing so anytime you bang on one end something will break down the line and need replacing. At one point he had to open up the wall to the outside to get to where he needed to start replacing. It’s finished now and I’m really liking the extra tall spout which I think is the handiest thing yet.

    Rain last night, great sleeping rain.  Not stormy just the rain.  

    Started reading a new book last night.   Can’t wait till the kids go down for a nap so I can pick it up again.

    It’s been that way for a week or so.  I guess I could just cut and paste one report each day for awhile.

    Anyway, my throat bug isn’t any better, and was joined by a headache on arising this morning.

    It’s my day off, so after offering the early Mass, I have the rest of the day to myself, and am going to take it especially easy.  I want to see if I can throw this thing off without resorting to antibiotics.

    we have been and will continue to be in the 60s and 70s.  Man, do I love Vermont.  I can take the cold and the snow but I hate the humidity and heat (why this long-time Southerner moved north in the first place).

    …was (at the risk of being irreverent) the High Holidays and New Year’s Eve rolled into one: the 2013 Tony Awards!

    The incomparably gifted Neil Patrick Harris absolutely rocked the house (Radio City Music Hall) with this truly bravura performance to open the proceedings. How he managed to pull off this eight-minute extravaganza celebrating American musical theatre with such panache will be studied by lovers of the art form for decades to come. It was truly awesome, and the audience responded with a thrilling ovation at the end.

    just dropped in to check on the travelers – basically exhaled once teh PQ told me they’d left MI.  When I get a minute I’ll go find out why I’m not supposed to rec this diary (having glanced down far enough to see the comment about not doing so).  Fascinating news at work – the Dean just resigned – I’m not sure but I think some of the strain the whole college has been under has just been eased somewhat.  I’m too low on the totem pole to know much about it, but the faculty has been discussing it (mostly just barely outside my range of hearing)  so I’m getting the drift.  Hope THAT trickles down – I could use a little less stress.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

    How do you prepare for an MRI? I don’t mind being closed in, my problem is that I can’t stay still. I wiggle and twitch all the time. And I hate noise. And I don’t listen to music, just audiobooks.

    What will it be like, and what should I do ahead of time so it won’t be so bad? My appointment is tomorrow around noon.

    Got caught up on dishes, am making a dent in the living room mess, took a stimulating walk, ran some errands, got a café-au-lait, introduced myself to a new merchant in the neighborhood (what appears to be a high-end vintage or consignment shop), and answered some emails. All before 11AM.

    Having a break now and keeping my fingers crossed that I can sustain the momentum. I’d love to have my living room all spruced up. It’s going to take more than one day, but I’d like to see how far I can get this afternoon.

    Yesterday I spent too much time online and ended up getting sad/grumpy once everyone disappeared. I’m going to try to avoid repeating that today. 🙂
