In 1807, former Veep Aaron Burr was indicted by a grand jury for treason. He was eventually acquitted.

In 1819, the steamship SS Savannah departed Savannah for Liverpool, England, in what was to be the first transatlantic steamship crossing.

In 1856, pro-slavery Congressman Preston Brooks beat the crap out of abolitionist Senator Charles Sumner with his cane, hitting him repeatedly until he was unconscious, and not stopping then. Sumner was unable to return full time to the Senate until 1859. Brooks received very minimal punishment.

In 1964, in a speech at Ohio University, President Johnson announced this Great Society proposal to end poverty and racial injustice.

In 1980, the arcade game Pac-Man was introduced.

bendy straw has ginormous feet. Why do I notice these things????

“Racist Friend” is one of my mother’s and my favorite songs. We always play it at full blast.

How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? (Apparently this was a huge Tweetroversy last night.)

With a hard G, because Jiff is peanut butter.

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one?

    I can’t play any instruments…a kazoo?

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated?

I do try to plant Native plants, and I try to hold onto the ones we already have, like our Virginia Dogwood and the White Pines that create the overstory that protects the dogwood. I also try to get rid of some of the nastier native plants, like poison ivy. When we first moved in here, a gardener told us that there are 20 native species of invasive plants and we had 18 of them. Sigh. The only one I really like is Virginia Creeper, which turns orange-red in the fall.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing?

Oh, I have no idea! Probably the winter coat I bought last year…had to go to a winter wedding and I didn’t want to wear a hoodie.

free concerts in the park, up germantown way.

like some other musicians, including a few other local adepts here, his visions extended far beyond. I played on that park stage too, on the same bill sometimes, for free, of course. that park was about local people and neighborhood talent. How long ago it was, I remember jim morrison was still alive.

    Oh.

    Boesendorfer. Always wanted one.

Where would I put it? 92 keys, 4 extra bass notes. Like playing a limousine.

Full moon insomnia this time of year worst.

    It’s a quarter to yawn.

now the radio says FBI shot, killed suspect someway connected to boston bombers. Florida. It’s a flash. Guess we’ll get more. Someone they were tracking or looking for. Might have been in Orlando. out.

  3. How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? (Apparently this was a huge Tweetroversy last night.) Soft g like the peanut butter. 😉

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one? An Ovation guitar to replace the one I never got back from a friend.

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated? I only garden with silk flowers since Pixie digs the real things up and I invariably kill the ones she doesn’t.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing? When I got my leather jacket and pants.

How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? (Apparently this was a huge Tweetroversy last night.) Hard G, for “graphic.”

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one? Probably a trumpet – I used to play one. Although, I would like to learn how to play the saxophone.

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated? I don’t garden…

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing? About $250, for a suit several years ago. Now, that same suit would probably cost double that.

How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? Hard G

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one? more conga drums for my hubby

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated? I do both.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing? Hmm …I so rarely buy clothing but it was probably 300 bucks on a pair of knee high leather boots 20 years ago.

How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? (Apparently this was a huge Tweetroversy last night.)

I saw that, too – it was funny. Hard g.

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one? There’s a fund in Austin to buy kids who want to be in band but can’t afford it an instrument. I’d contribute to that if I could.

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated? Mine are in pots, so “nativeness” is less of an issue. I have mont – several varieties, basil, amranth just sprouting, trying to grow broccoli, but it doesn’t look happy & an artichoke plant.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing? Maybe $200?

  7. How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? (Apparently this was a huge Tweetroversy last night.)

I have never pronounced GIF and, if I ever do, I will probably say Gee Eye Eff.

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one?

well, if buying one meant automatically being able to play…. I like oboe and bassoon. A  harpsichord would be cool, too.

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated?

    I don’t garden

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing?

I have no idea. I guess it was on a suit, probably … buy one, it lasts a decade if you wear it as rarely as I do.

GIF:  I assumed hard G, otherwise it is peanut butter

Instrument:  we have a piano, two trombones and a banjo.  We need a violin and a clarinet

Garden:  yes, the less I have to water them the better.  Here that means lots of echinacea and prairie grasses.  Sometimes though, I just plant what I like.  For example, I want a Japanese maple.  They are so darned pretty.  But mostly I garden veggies.

Expensive clothes:  I guess my wedding dress but that was not extravagant.  I think my husbands suit cost more than my dress.  We had a small wedding and my dress was simple and tea length.  I loved it.  My mom is currently making it into pillows along with the tie my husband wore.

Native plants? Because of the drought and 100+ temps here during the summer, I do have to consider native plants, or at least plants known to withstand both.

Prolly Nike tennis shoes- about $50, because for me they are a perfect fit. I shop the clearance bins mostly.

I made a raised bed out of concrete blocks, a little bigger than 6x4ish. While watering yesterday evening, I spied a 2″ bell pepper. I’m seeing blossoms on the tomato plants, as well as the pepper plants, and that means fruit, hopefully. Unless the heat causes them to drop. They get partial shade in the late afternoon for that reason. We are not-so-officially in the summer season now, with highs in the 90’s.

I say GIF, and come to think of it, my co-worker Nick says JIF.  I don’t see how it matters, unless you know what the “G” stands for, and are crazy enough to care.  😉

If I had to buy one?  I’d buy a guitar.  I love guitars.

I plant only the finest English ivy and bamboo, with morning glories for color.  Kidding, of course.  We’ve got hostas and fiddlehead ferns in the front yard.  No idea where they originated.

I don’t know how much, but i bet it was on a pair of shoes.

    1667 – Pope Alexander VII (b. 1599)

There’s an Alexander Pope and a Pope Alexander??  😉

  13. How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G?

    Hard G

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one?

I don’t play instruments, but I’ve purchased a number of saxophones for Son. Sadly, he isn’t playing these days, either.

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated?

    I’m not the gardener here.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing?

I think I spent $300ish on a suit for work once.

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated?  As far as I know, cannabis sativa is not native to the northeast US.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing?  $700 for a suit.

I would buy a lute, or better yet a [theorbo ]. And then I’d learn to play it.

I once spent $600 on a suit which was knocked down from $1,200. Not even my tux was that expensive.

Sun is starting to peek out from the clouds.  Supposed to be hot & steamy this afternoon.

    Q&A:

How do you pronounce “GIF?” Hard or soft G? (Apparently this was a huge Tweetroversy last night.)  Hard G (although I had to look up which sounds were hard & which were soft before I could answer).

For Buy a Musical Instrument Day, what instrument would you buy, if you had to buy one?  Piano or Organ

Those of you who garden, do you make any attempt at all to plant native plants, or do you plant what you like, regardless of where it originated?  Don’t have a garden currently, but when I do it will be vegetables & maybe some fruits.

What is the most you ever spent on an item of clothing?  $750 for my wedding dress.
