No living parents. I miss my father’s advice.

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”?

None of the above. Not really much of a biscuit fan.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning?

I almost always wake up way too early. Insomnia stinks. But I do get going fast.

How many of you still have living parents?

No. My dad died in 2004, and my mom passed in October of 2011. They both lived very long lives. My dad lived to 87, and my mom was a couple of weeks shy of 93 when she died.

For the orphans among us, what do you miss the most about either parent?

My folks were divorced for about 40 years, and I was never close to my dad. I miss my mom every day. I often see things–plants flowers, books–and I think, oh, my mom would love that.

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”?

    Bisquick is my friend.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning? Way too long.

  3. Mother’s Day has just come and gone. How many of you still have living parents? Lost Dad in 1999 and Mom in 2010.

For the orphans among us, what do you miss the most about either parent? I miss being able to talk to Dad. He had a genius IQ and we could talk about anything. Being sick right now I miss the way Mom took care of us when sick.

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”? From scratch.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning? I’m usually ready to rock and roll by noon. 😉

  4. How many of you still have living parents? For the orphans among us, what do you miss the most about either parent?

My mom and dad both died in 1997, ages 65 and 66. I miss Mom’s smile, and the way she could make something good out of very little.

Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”?

I don’t eat a lot of biscuits but do use both Bisquick and cans, depending on the circumstances.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning?

I used to be the queen of getting moving quickly. Not so much now that I rarely need to go anywhere.

Mother’s Day has just come and gone. How many of you still have living parents? For the orphans among us, what do you miss the most about either parent? Nope. Lost my mom in 1972, and my father in 2001. I miss that my father won’t see the results of some of the things he taught me, and that he won’t see the house that we’re going to build. He built the house I grew up in.

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”? Don’t make biscuits.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning? If you mean vertical, not very long usually. If you mean functional, usually until about noon or so… (what can I say, I’m not a morning person)

Both parents deceased. I miss my dad’s radical political views (we used to argue almost daily) and my mom’s civilizing influence on the family (she was the peacemaker between warring factions)

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”?  I do all three depending on how much time I have

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning? Not long.  Just enough time to head downstairs and get first cuppa coffee.

  7. Mets102

    1. Both my parents are still alive

    2.  I’ve never made buttermilk biscuits

    3.  At least 30 minutes.

    Thanks for the guffaws!

Mother’s Day has just come and gone. How many of you still have living parents? For the orphans among us, what do you miss the most about either parent? My parents died 5 months apart in 2008 – I miss everything about them. But the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the two of them is their love for each other:

    Mom & Dad

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”? Cans – might be why I don’t especially like biscuits, eh?

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning? I am sleep-disordered and kind of like it to be over with, so I get moving fairly quickly in the morning.

My mom loved every little thing about me. Here’s the last pic of us together – I posted it on Mother’s Day, too. She was in the hospital in February & seemed to be getting better, so I’m about to leave for home in this picture:

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”? None of the above — though when I go to Threadgill’s, I do eat their biscuits, because… damn….

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning? The instant the alarm goes off, I’m in motion & I don’t dare stop for a second till I’m in the car. If I stop moving, the morning is lost — I’ll go back to sleep on my feet & end up late or even have to call in because I drifted off.

Orphan since 2008.  They were nice folks.  My dad was the rare person who went farther to the left politically the older he got.  My mom, The Last Liberal Republican, said toward the end of her life, “I may be wrong, but I don’t think George Bush is a very good president.”  I think both of them would have enjoyed it immensely if they’d lived to see Obama become president.

My mind has no information in it on buttermilk biscuits.

Two or three hits of the snooze button (at 9 minutes each), depending on how much preparation I need.  Four hits on a bad day.

David, coincidentally, is also the man.

He was also in an early version of Renaissance.

…I could go weeks and weeks without talking to my parents, and without missing them. But now that they are both gone I find myself thinking of them nearly every day.

I miss most the laughter. They were both good laffers.

  16. slksfca

…now that I no longer have to get up for work in the morning, my routine is quick and simple: wake up, roll out of bed, and make my way (half-blind and stumbling) into the kitchen to get coffee started.

Then it’s over to the desk, where I plop down and start up my TV app and Firefox. Then I come here. 🙂

  17. Floja Roja

I’m an orphan. 1998 for my Dad and 2007 for my Mom. I think. Does it suck that I can’t recall these dates? I miss my Mom most of all, talking books or politics.

I love me some good biscuits, and keep meaning to do the from scratch bit. I tried once using the self-rising flour called for in the recipe, and that stuff was so salty (I think it was Gold Medal) that the biscuits were inedible. I don’t know if the flour is always that salty or if I got a bad bag. I haven’t bought the stuff since. I am presently hampered in the butter/flour mixing part by the stupid brace on my injured hand, but @kitchenista on Twitter suggests very cold butter can be grated in the food processor, but the blade has to be chilled. I think I may try that.

When employed, I get up with the alarm and start exercising, which is the only way I can kickstart myself. On weekends I am not awake until mid morning after coffee and food.

Parents? Mother died in 1970 at age 65, Daddy died in 1974 at age 73. I wish I knew more of the stories they could have told, but I was only in my 20s and didn’t think about it.

Biscuit? The plural of biscuit is biscuit. Crisco or lard, and maybe some butter, not just butter. I really miss my pastry blender (aka pastry cutter); it broke when I got overexuberant. Don’t handle the dough any more than you absolutely have to. You can use a glass to cut the circles, whatever size you want. Very hot oven.

Get moving? I’m a morning person, pretty much functional even before coffee, one cup is enough to get me going.

Mother’s Day has just come and gone. How many of you still have living parents?

    I don’t.

For the orphans among us, what do you miss the most about either parent?

Just being able to call ’em up and chat.

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”?

I’m a whopper. that is, i whopp the can on the counter.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning?

    awhile.

    not from the bubbapod.

  20. JG in MD

biscuits may be different in some ways from the ones made with Crisco but probably handled mostly the same.

  21. Avilyn

Haven’t had my coffee yet.  Stayed up late last night, but hey, it’s OK because vacation.  😀

Mother’s Day has just come and gone. How many of you still have living parents?  I still have both of my parents, and both of my husband’s parents. We talk a couple of times a week.

It’s National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Do you make your own from scratch, use Bisquick, or break open one of those “cans”?  I either use the cans or buy biscuits from the bakery at our supermarket.

How long does it usually take you to get moving in the morning?  If I have to go to work?  At least a half hour before I finally give in to the alarms and stumble out of bed to the shower.  For functional?  Ask me again around noon.  😉

Thanks Floja…..I won’t be on line for a few days as we’re going to visit our daughter in Oregon and then to the Oregon coast with some old friends. I’ll check in when I can.
