Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. Remember to let your peeps know where you are!

This week’s shot of the week was taken in the butterfly garden at Kiptopke State Park here in Virginia.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

43 here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a whopping 55. Freeze warning in place for tonight. Seriously weather? Have you perhaps not noticed that it is MAY?!?!?

exam  – trying to warm up – was cold last night with our “frost”. Will be 32 again tonight – sigh. Another freeze.

No planting for Dee till the weekend I think.

with a wind chill of 20. Local farmers are very worried about this frost killing off their crops. A killing frost killed off a huge amount of crops last year. I’m not sure how many could survive another year of it.

  4. It was 34 degrees when I woke up so this is the wrong direction. We have freeze warnings until 9am. It says that it will warm up to 61 degrees. We shall see, as they say.

We turned the furnace back on last night. 🙁

    Stay warm, meeses!!

  5. Going back to bed as soon as I take my niece to work. Just can’t shake this bronchitis. Will probably play with art this afternoon. Just got a new horse model that I need to try out. In the meantime I also have new water models to play around with.

forties going up to the high fifties in NYC. Looks as though it’s a chilly day for many. Hope it won’t affect the crops.

  7. Where’s nchristine?? She hasn’t checked in for a few days.

Here is an Iowa sunrise for you, not today, and not at our house.

All is fine here, sunny and cold. Should be in high 60s today, high 80s tomorrow, and then reverting to JUST RIGHT for our celebrations.

Yesterday I finished building my quilt top, and also got it quilted. This morning I’ll sew the binding on.

Several other things going on today, along with the continuing kid/house-proofing.

    Have a great day!

  8. I have a couple of outdoor jobs today that will get my hands dirty. I will pot some geraniums and vinca for the pots in the front of the house. The stones around a defunct hosta patch will get moved out of the way of mowing. They look like a little grave outline. And, some encroaching raspberry canes need to be trimmed back.

All that work will add the the already high 400 ppm CO2 in the atmosphere.

Here comes the neighborhood cat skulking through the yard. These cats better watch out. A neighbor last evening a block away said they say a coyote go through the yards. We hear them now and then, sometimes very close. Keep checking the rearview.

It is already up to 40.  Bright sun and very crisp.  Going up to low 60s today.  85 tomorrow.

Had a great day yesterday and slept like a baby last night.  And, my allergy headache is gone!

it’s a travel day here as soon as we get it all together. We’re heading for our cabin in the hill country for a few days, we’ll see how Grace does traveling. Our neighbor has wi-fi so later in the week I’ll walk up the hill and connect. The nicest thing about our cabiin is that it’s down in a holler, no cell service. Can’t see it from the road either, that’s helped keep problems down while we’re not there. Our little slice of hillbilly heaven so close to Austin!

after having been coaxed onto this purple forum by the impossible-to-resist Kelley, RN.  I recognize several people here from other venues, and am looking forward to renewing those acquaintances, and making new ones.

I’m just getting ready to hit the shower before starting my day… technically my day off, but one which portends to be a full one.  I’m not sure when I’ll have an opportunity to swing back by, but will try to pop in at intervals this afternoon and evening.

After a particularly busy morning yesterday, more so than my usual Sunday, I attended a “high tea” for Mother’s Day at the assisted living facility where my mother and her sister lives.  They were joined by several of my cousins, some of whom I haven’t seen for quite awhile.  I’m going to “do lunch” with my mother and aunt this noon.

    Pax vobis.

But I wasn’t happy about it yesterday, when I had to wear something warm to dinner at a restaurant, instead of a pretty dress.

46 F. here now, heading for a high of 60 F.  In May! A freeze warning tonight, too. Thank Goddess we haven’t planted tomatoes yet, that’s all I can say.

We had a busy weekend so I’m hoping for a nice, slow week with nothing much happening.  The news everywhere is bad, as usual.

Read the front page story about Benghazi, now off to read Melanie’s blog about getting rid of hunger.  Everyone have a good day!

I could have worn a sweater this morning. In Texas, in May. You may not get how mind-blowingly weird that is.

Eating the last of last week’s sweet sweetpotato & kale dish.

Wow what a weekend of geekiness — and a triathlon, too. And now Joss is on Twitter! @JossActual. I bet those of you in other states can hear the  squeeee-ing from there. He joined 6 hours ago, has over 16,000 followers. The Agents of SHIELD promo is amazing. And I’m going to Star Trek on Thursday. There was also Bobak Fedrowski & Buzz Aldrin on the Nerdist Saturday night (following a Neil Gaiman-penned ep of Dr. Who), and I watched last week’s Big Brain Theory (where Fedrowski was the surprise judge) last night. And a friend sent me this video of Chris Hadfield, the astronaut who has been sending down those amazing pictures from the Space Station, singing a slightly revised version of Space Oddity. So, I’ve been racking up nerdy girl points.

    So happy Monday.

I dreamed I had an amazing day with a Swiss scientist that included lovely sexual tension and finding a cow in the back of my Volkswagen beetle. There was lots more too. He promised to see me again next time he comes to the States. I hope it’s soon.

The vet clinic thinks it’s some kind of record – I left Reggie with them Wednesday afternoon.  On Thursday a woman said if he was still there next week she would bring her dog in to introduce them.  On Friday just before closing she decided it would be better to take him home for the weekend and see how that works.  On Sunday evening she called me to tell me she was keeping him and reassure me about his new home!  He will be an indoor cat but there’s a window overlooking the bird feeders he’s already claimed.  There’s a 14 y.o. dog who knows better than to mess with a 16-lb cat.  There’s a 2 y.o. little girl and she and Reggie already love each other – she hugs him and he hugs back (he even seemed happy about having a hat put on his head).  This is a really, really great long-term if not forever (we all know “forever” is after the Rainbow Bridge, not before it) home for him and I am so relieved and happy for him!  Meanwhile my own home is a whole lot quieter and more content now Charlie has quit cowering under chairs.  (Fayetteville, AR weather check – upper 40s to low 70s today and clearing off.  “Work” check – starting the 1st intersession class today so we shall see how 10 4-hour days = 1 semester class credit works; only the full Quorum Court meeting on Thursday this week.)  {{{HUGS}}} bf

A busy Monday today. The tree service is coming to prune our tall and wide laurel hedge and we are getting ready for a trip to Oregon to visit our daughter and spend a few days with some old friends at a beach house in the Oregon coast. After my reclusive recovery year on the sofa all the travel we have done this year is both welcome and a challenge for me.

We will be back in Bellingham around the 24th of May, but I’ll check in when I can.

  17. I sent this note to a friend this morning:

I dreamed of you last night, that you and I were standing side by side working on refinishing projects. I think yours may have been a small wooden step stool, the box kind with 2 narrow steps to a 10″ deep platform. It was probably fruit wood in a pecan finish. The wood was pretty. You had a rag in hand that you were wiping it with, maybe a tack cloth. I don’t know what my project was. Guess I was paying attention to yours.

    He sent back:

Interesting you should dream that because I actually am getting ready to do some refinishing.

It was actually not bad because the temperature is mild, about 60°F. So even though there was a breeze, it wasn’t a chilling breeze. That’s a sure sign that summer is approaching.

I finished some of my errands but not laundry. That will have to wait for another day because I need to go put my leg up.

Hope everyone’s having a good day!
