For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in? I took a 17th-century painting class in college that I really enjoyed.

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb? (Vegetarians may skip this question or describe their ideal salad.) πŸ˜‰ I will skip this one since I don’t eat red meat. I generally like my lambs live and in a field.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require? I am happier in casual. One benefit of being an archaeologist is that I don’t have to dress up.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet? Pluto got a raw deal. It will always be a planet to me.

  2. For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in? My second grade teacher wrote on my report card “take a look at her art.” That started me out as an artist.

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb? (Vegetarians may skip this question or describe their ideal salad.) πŸ˜‰ Not too fond on lamb actually.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require? Jeans and tshirt girl mostly but I do enjoy dressing up when the occasion calls for it. Since I’m retired and work from home some days it is pjs.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet? Pure size discrimination. I really think he should sue!

  3. For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in?

I had a few really good teachers, but none that did exactly this. Of course, I’ve always been interested in lots of academic subjects.

My mom used to make a leg of lamb recipe from the Joy of Cooking. My brother and I took to calling it “stand up lamb” because we could eat it faster than she could slice it.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require?

Casual. And, 90% of the time, it’s fine for me to go to work in t-shirt and jeans or whatever; now I work as a consultant – most of my clients are just by phone and e-mail. I’ve worked in environments that allowed casual dress for a long time.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?

I think it was too much fuss. In one of Feynman’s autobiographical volumes he stresses that he got a love of science from his father, who never emphasized what a thing was called but, rather, what it was.

In addition, my own view is that categorization tends to mess up the edges.  Is Pluto a small planet? Or a large dwarf planet? Is it a dichotomy? It has some characteristic of a planet. On the other hand, if there are intelligent beings on Jupiter, maybe they wouldn’t regard Earth as a planet! Only ONE MOON?  No gas cloud?

Miss O’Hara in the sixth grade gave me my first thesaurus and opened my eyes to the wonderful world of words.

I have never liked lamb. I think it started because I had mutton first, and that tasted like dirty sweat socks smell. Could never get past my disgust — and the mutton was prepared by a Frenchwoman who was a superb cook, so I doubt it was something wrong with the cooking method. So lamb is out. Filet mignon, however, is IN.

I used to love getting dressed up, but now I’m strictly a jeans and tee-shirt guy.

I am pro-Pluto. The poor thing didn’t deserve to be demoted.

For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in?

My mom was a teacher, and both of her parents were in education (& I imagine at least some grandparents were, because that’s not the kind of profession you just get into for the heck of it). But as for somethiing I never thought I could be interested in…… in my junior & senior years of high school, I was at boarding school & the math teacher lived in my dorm. To say I’m bad at math is an understatement of truly epic proportions. The math teacher decided I was passing algebra. We worked on my homework every night during study hall. Every night. I remember having tiny glimpses of actual understanding. So – Hania Niklas, wherever you are – thanks for getting me passed algebra.

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb? (Vegetarians may skip this question or describe their ideal salad.) πŸ˜‰

Ideal? Hmmm…. Not ideal, but I’m currently eating a dish of sweet potatoes, cranberries & kale with a sauce of almond butter, almond milk & dates. It’s ok.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require?

Casual. My workplace is more casual than most, but I still think it is insane that we can’t wear shorts or t-shirts from races or events. We sit in cubicles & talk on the phone, fer cryin’ our loud. What could it possibly matter what cloth I have on?

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?

I love Neil de Grasse Tyson a whole lot (he was the TA in my Ast 301 class — no, really – it was his last sememster at UT) but he’s wrong about Pluto. It’s a planet.

I don’t know that there’s anything I couldn’t be interested in.  There are plenty of things I’m bad at, though.  πŸ˜‰

What are the possible answers to this?  Is it a question of doneness?  Whatever makes it tender.  πŸ™‚

Casual, all the way.  Luckily, it’s casual where I work.  I wear jeans every day, although I think they’d prefer casual slacks of another material.

No.  Well, it’s just a matter of definition, and if Pluto doesn’t look like a planet and act like a planet, then it ain’t.  This reminds me that I don’t really know what makes Pluto ineligible, so I should read Mike Brown’s How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming.

  7. JG in MD

What teacher did you have that made you interested in something? Mr. Gaub, 7th grade geography.

How do you like your leg of lamb? My mom used to cook lamb shanks. They were delicious, but I only eat lamb very rarely, disguised in a Greek gyro or something now. Can’t bear the thought.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? Have no reason to dress up, I kind of miss it. Trying to upgrade everyday outfits from bag-lady casual to nicer casual. For work at home I have a whole wardrobe of beloved housewear.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?
I just read How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming by Mike Brown. Loved it.

I can see how typing the word “prolly” instead of “probably” is a huge time saver. Much like the cotton gin.

    – Steve Carell

    Hee!  I kinda like “prolly.”

It’s not too late. Reading one good book can erase the damage of ten reality shows.

    – Chris Dashiell

I dunno, Dash.  I’ve sustained a lot of damage.

    1989 – Guy Williams, American actor (b. 1924)

    Hee!  Wrapped in foil!

  9. Its the Supreme Court Stupid

For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in? Are we talking primary/secondary school, or can we include college/univeristy/grad and or prof school?

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb? (Vegetarians may skip this question or describe their ideal salad.) πŸ˜‰ Roasted with olive oil, garlic, lemon, salt and rosemary.  Yum!

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require? I prefer casual.  My workplace is business casual year round.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?  Pluto has DEFINITELY been mistreated. He was the BESTEST dog that Mickey ever had!

  10. mikidee

I’ve known a few paste-up artists in my day.

For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in? Thank you, Mrs. Stephenson, my 7th grade math teacher, for making math interesting and helping me avoid a budding math phobia.

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb? (Vegetarians may skip this question or describe their ideal salad.) πŸ˜‰
    Raan. Yum.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require? I detest fussing about clothes – hate, hate, hate it. I was happiest wearing fatigues every day for three years because it took away the burden of thought. Work now – business casual, emphasis on the casual, but that doesn’t solve the problem.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet? No – he’s just fine as a cartoon dog.

  11. raina

didn’t think I knew something besides my pathetic French, didcha?

Hmm…I always like the subjects I liked and hated the ones I hated regardless of teachers. .

I can’t stand the smell of lamb and think it tastes funky as a rule, but I’ve had a few dishes that were good, including gyros.

    Tres casual.

Re: Pluto- Sheldon speaks for me. ;P

But biology and chemistry were presented so dull, we mixed screwdrivers out of orange juice and 190 proof grain alcohol on Friday afternoons when the professor left early and we had a 3-hour lab. And there was a record player. And no one ever came to look in on us. All year. I think they were 5-gallon bottles. Sure were a lot of em..

  13. jlms qkw

i had a social studies teacher that encouraged me in current events, politics, and eco stuff.  back before it was cool.

    i love mixed greens.

    some nylons are okay.

    pluto was screwed.

  14. Avilyn

It feels like it should be Wednesday or Thursday.  This is gonna be a long week.

For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in?  Chemistry.  Part of that though was being a junior in H.S. and having our usual teacher (an older nun) replaced by a young twenty-something handsome guy who was fresh out of college on a permanent sub basis (the nun had gone out for surgery).

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb? (Vegetarians may skip this question or describe their ideal salad.) πŸ˜‰  Not a vegetarian, but I don’t like lamb, so ideally I guess I’d like to see it still on the animal πŸ˜‰

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require?  Work is business casual. I’m happiest in a pair of slightly too large sweatpants and an over-large sarcastic t-shirt.  I do enjoy dressing up on occasion though, so long as that occasion doesn’t come more than once a year.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?  I <3 Neil deGrasse Tyson, so I’ll go along with whatever he says.

  15. For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in?

Mr. Bishop, english, got me into acting in the school play twice.

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb?

    I don’t think I’ve had RLofL.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require?

Happy casual at home and at work.

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?

Ah Pluto, the lonely planetoid. I don’t think the decision is final.

Regarding Guy Williams, wasn’t he on Lost in Space? Yes he was from 65-68. It’s possible he could be found in space on Pluto.

For National Teacher’s Day, what teacher(s) did you have that made you interested in something that you thought you could never be interested in?

A volunteer teacher got me interested in reading. I haven’t put a book down since.

For Roast Leg of Lamb day, how do you like your leg of lamb?

This Greek Girl loves lamb.  Last Sunday was Orthodox Easter~ lamb & goats a plenty were eaten that day. Guess what I prepared for my family. Leg of lamb with the bone in. Whole clove of garlic cut into very small spears. Cut slits in the lamb and put the spears into the slits. Rub the leg with olive oil, lemon juice, salt & pepper and oregano. Try to use fresh ingredients. Go to an old school butcher for a good leg of lamb. Not Australian ~ it has a different flavor; buy American lamb. Cook lamb 20 minutes per pound for 325 degrees. You have a wonderful yummy leg of lamb.

Do you like getting dressed up, or are you happier in casual? What does your work require?

Mostly casual, but enjoy dressing up for the correct occasion

Do you think Pluto was treated unfairly and deserves to be a planet?

Pluto deserves to be a planet.

  17.    That awkward moment when Eric Cantor pledges to have another vote to repeal Obamacare and no one can remember if it’s the 38th or 39th.

       – Top Conservative Cat (@TeaPartyCat) May 6, 2013

House GOP Freshmen Feel Left Out Of Failed Obamacare Repeal Rituals

Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) urged leadership to hold a repeal vote so freshman members can serve up the same anti-Obamacare talking points for their conservative constituents that more senior Republicans enjoy.

“If you’re a freshman – the guys who’ve been up here the last year, we can go home and say listen, we voted 36 different times to repeal or replace Obamacare. Tell me what the new guys are supposed to say,” he said. “We haven’t had a repeal or replace vote this year.”
