In 1707, the Kingdom of England and Kingdom of Scotland were joined by The Act of Union to form the Kingdom of Great Britain.
In 1776, the Illuminati formed in Ingolstadt (Upper Bavaria), by Jesuit-taught Adam Weishaupt. They were later banned by Bavaria with a little encouragement from the Catholic Church. There have since been many groups, real and fictional, using that name.
