Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Headed for a high of 70 today, and tomorrow, and the next day and the day after that, and…

Seriously. Weirdest long term forecast evah, from my iPhone this morning:

I am having a small party for my graduating seniors in my Honors II class. I am so proud of them all.

Which seems 10 degrees higher than what I heard the radio predict yesterday. But, who’s counting? Hunh? For months now, the news station has continually contradicted itself tempature wise, second to second, the oversourced, imprecise, fiddledeediddle fooligans.

Aw, I give up. Clowns. No cyclones or monsoons nearing, so eventually the light rains will be clearing. There, that’s enough for the month. Ya wanna know more? Go outside. Take a look. Between the sky, and how the leaves react to the breeze, you can pretty much tell what’s in store.

In other news, I may get a haircut; and then, possibly, a hat, if they still make such. I’ll probably go to the muslim barbers 3 doors down, soon’s I find $10-12$ and what a hat costs, later.

    No proofreading, post anyway. Cheers.

  4. Happy May Day!! I am looking forward to the May flowers promised all through the month of April.

Mayday Mayday … Woozles celebrating May and Beltane at about 1pm Central.

    See all y’alls later!!!

60 degrees with an expected high of 80. I can’t believe we have the Shenandoah Valley beat by 10 degrees this early. JanFab was a wonderful neighbor and sent us a beautiful day.

    Before you ask……

    on my campus

We adjuncts would like to earn more that 10K per year (before taxes) – want the pay per course (we can only teach 2 per semester at 2,500 per course) to be 5K.

Sunny day – going up to 72 – perfect day to hold a protest!

  7. We aren’t going to reach 70 today. Maybe by Friday then back down to the high 60s. Brother in California says they are expecting close to 100.

Working on the website today. I have a massive update on art and recipes that I am doing. Hope to finish it today.

I finished this picture last night. It came out very atmospheric. I call it The Angry Sky.

  8. It got HOT yesterday, high 80s, but today should be headed into mid-70s. Tomorrow in the 40s. Ah, Spring!

Working on my lists to deal with over the next couple of weeks. I did bake 4 dozen cookies yesterday. Only 44 made it into the freezer. Today I might do peanut butter cookies, or they may wait until Friday. That’s more likely, realistically.

    Have a great day!

switching the April Nationals schedule for the May Nationals schedule on my wall, I lifted down the paper, the straight pin came with it, I heard the pin drop but I can’t find it. If it had fallen into the coffee I don’t think the sound would have been as clear, so it can’t be there.

Now that my ceremony has been messed up, ‘scuse me while I go get another straight pin…

in western Iowa……  thunder snow in fact.  Another tulip opened up yesterday.  One of my new spirea has gone to town greening up, but then it does have a great spot in the sun.  The others will be catching up.

Feet did not like last night’s workout. It’s not quite back to walking on icepicks, but it is like sharp gravel. Just on the heels, but wow. Voice seems normal.

Eating breakfast, playing on the tubez. Got a window open for the IMAX theater, will refresh a few times today (500 or so). I bought a ticket for a Star Trek double feature on Thursday of opening weekend; now I just need to see it in IMAX, too. I’m willing to even not see it at an Alamo Drafthouse to see it in IMAX (if you live in a city where there’s an Alamo, they will totally ruin you for all other theatres. Favorite thing – there is absolutely, positively no talking whatsoever during the movie at an Alamo. Ne cell phones, and did I mention no talking?)

Swim stuff is in the trunk. There’ll be a cold front tomorrow, so if there is to be swimming, today’s that day.

she is recovering from the trauma over pooping, for a while we called her the mad shitter ’cause she’d run for a hidden place and drop those turds on the run. We’ve drawn her out into the open and she seems to be a lot more relaxed about the whole thing, she’s now getting close or on the puppy pads so I think she may get over this. She mastered using the pads to wee right away and mostly doesn’t have accidents with that, puppy training can get messy. It really doesn’t take that long so it’s important not to try to rush it and never ever punish for accidents. In her case that would defeat any progress we’ve made, I feel certain that I won’t be cleaning up poop for that long but since we plan to keep her we’d live with our mistakes for a long time if we lost patience now. Now that you’ve started your morning with a disussion of puppy poop you can feel like your day is complete.

and falling temperatures move in tonight.  Wimped out yesterday and turned on the A/C.  I can tolerate cold better than I can heat and I just don’t sleep well in a warm room.  Snowing again in Colorado, much to the dismay of the locals.

Gonna be a hot one here. Already 65°F and downtown will break 80° this afternoon. Out here we’ll see the mid-70s. I’ve pulled the rotating fan out of the closet because tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer.

Binnie Barnes was guest star on The Donna Reed Show last night. I just adore Binnie! 🙂

scheduled to move through this evening, then back to low 30s and high 50s if I’m lucky.  And wet (OK, we need the wet).  Sigh.  Well, the thing with finding Reggie a better forever home didn’t work out.  The young man who took Reg home for the weekend loved him, bought him toys and slept with him and all that – but the young man’s roommate is allergic.  However Reggie and Charlie aren’t fighting so maybe a couple of days separation did some good.  Still trying to get the summer payroll information (which is supposed to be entered by Monday – come ON folks!) and still reading my way through the cluster that is the grievance hearing Friday afternoon.  I am SO looking forward to Jan’s Beltane diary this afternoon – by then I’m gonna need it!  {{{HUGS}}} bf

So I’m trying to get myself all worked up to go for a morning walk, because I think that will help. But I haven’t yet developed enough ambition for it, even though the day is glorious and my back door is wide open.

One more cup of coffee first, I think. Then I’ll try to push myself out the door and into the world.

Very warm for us. I hate that our drip system isn’t working. I have to climb our hill and water the landscape by hose; which means I probably waste too much water. Note to self; call landscaping company to repair the drip system. It’s already 71F degrees, expecting close to 90 today. Very hot for our area. Did I mention we don’t have a/c?

    enjoy your day and this
