Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

    Headed for a high of 86 degrees. One week after we were whining about the cold. Go figure.

    Just woke up to adjust my leg pillow and get a drink of water and spend a few minutes online. It’s a warm and clear night here; in fact I’ve kept my back door open all night long. We hit the 70s yesterday and it will be even hotter in the afternoon.

    If I can’t get back to sleep right away I may lurk around here and pounce on early commenters. Otherwise I’ll see everyone later this morning. 🙂

    60 days from today, Iriti and TRS will arrive and help me move to Colorado. The Nursey will be putting me up(putting up with me) for a bit, until my feet are under me. Words cannot express my feelings for these three people, even before the move was decided on. They and so many have been constant sources of strength to me. Poor JanFab puts up with endless text chats with me each and every morning. Abernathy and Kiki will be joining me for the move.

    32 degrees and BIG BAD STORMS here. Thunderboomers started at 4:15am right after a small snow squall. The storm is chaining up from the corner of Iowa. The “reds” have gone through but there are plenty of “yellows” left on the radar.

    This will probably not help our flooding situation. Still under a watch until Friday noon.

    My older cat Merlin has been losing weight. He just turned 15 so he is old. I thought it was just the old age and the fact he isn’t very active any more in the last couple of weeks though he has dropped a ton of weight and in the last couple days he just isn’t eating hardly at all. I finally found a Vet who will see him this afternoon. I’ve had him since he was 4 weeks old. I’m praying it is something that they can fix but I’m not very hopeful. This is the way he is supposed to look not the skin and bones he is now.

    The greatest error of almost all important social movements is to look for and follow the politicians for success. The politicians are often the last people to get it. That was the underlying principle behind the marriage equality movement – we would change hearts and minds on the ground first. Then after 25 years of that, we have a sudden Senate majority for equality. In a couple of months. That pattern can tell you a lot.

    in the fifties here, zooming up to the high seventies. Hate it when it goes over forty so am already sulking.I am not a warm weather person.

    The good news, however, is that the NY mayoral race might be interesting instead of dreary and discouraging. I hate everybody running. There’s a local former congressman from another district, Anthony Weiner, who sent a  crotch shot of himself (guess it was of him, I wouldn’t know!) to a young woman and then resigned from Congress. He’s rather progressive and the news is that he might run for mayor. Popcorn time! I might even vote for him. We shall see. But before popcorn……….coffee

    According to the weather guy, the weekend will be alright and then back into another rainy week.  That’s fine too, April is usually a rainy month.  We’re still so far behind on precip…..

    That prehistoric google – I remember that time!!!  Ick!!!!  Although the early computer indexes were coming in while I was in college.

    My hands are hurting this week…. ick….

    front is coming in – with rain!! – and it’ll drop 20 degrees today if the outlying areas are any guide. Overnight low back to the 40s, tomorrow’s high low 60s (hey, after the 80s, that’s going to feel chilly)

    Eating breakfast – and I just realized I’m leaving before noon because my repair guy window is 12-4. After I brought in salad, carrot soup & popcorn tofu. Sigh. Oh well, it’s not like I don’t have plenty of the same at home.

    So, my day: breakfast, work, wait for Geek Squad, then… I suppose I’ll have no excuse not to go to the gym

    It rained. We got 0.9″ last night on top of the 1.5″ the two before. More is on the way to our SW.

    This helps our soil moisture deficiency. I hope the farmers don’t start to complain about it being too wet. They can be that way. Never actually happy with what they’ve got. Always worrying about what might happen. God bless ’em.

    I am going to work. It’s Monday for me. Tomorrow is hump day. Friday is Friday.

    candidates and his past is not really of interest to most of us. The jokes that are already surfacing are another matter! His wife, Huma,  as you may know, is one of Hillary’s closest aides and is Muslim. Not sure how all that will factor in. But, he would make a decent mayor which is something NY has not seen in a long time.

    …makes his debut today at our California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. He’s a rare African penguin and the first one hatched since the museum was rebuilt a couple of years ago.

    Here’s a link to the story (which includes a video clip of the wee birdie). The penguin is as yet unnamed, but they’re holding a public contest to remedy that. Alas, I have no clever suggestions.

    a storm blew through from the north last night so we went from high 80s to low 30s. We’re supposed to stay cloudy and cool today before warming up but probably won’t get any actual moisture. We have a complicated relationship with the dry line here which means no matter where the storms come from they seem to do a little dance in order to avoid our county. It has to do with where the draws are and where the land drops off the plateau but mostly it’s because this was meant to be desert.

    We had a low of 75° last night. Hard to imagine we live in the same country sometimes when the highs in other states are lower than our lows.

    midnight.  The rain moved in about 3 ack emma or so – sleep problems, I haz dem – with a chilly wind and the temps started down.  I just found the silver lining to the dark cloud of Rs sweeping the board in last November’s election – when an R dept head or elected official comes before the Finance Committee and says, “I need more personnel” – the request is granted with few questions and no insults pretending to be concerns “protecting the taxpayer” – so now we’ve approved another Social Worker for JDC and another asst. Circuit Clerk who will be dedicated to handling intake paperwork for Orders of Protection.  Gotta go.  Happy herding.  Y’all take care, bf

    Bright spots: listening to Merle Haggard, sewing my churndashes, successfully borrowing another e-book from the library, phone call from Daughter’s MIL, upcoming plans with sister and her husband…

    And still feeling a little down. Okay, Merle, get the band going again…

    Went into DC again to pick up the authenticated certificates. I kinda wish they had Hillary’s signature on them instead of Kerry’s, though.

    I’d like to lodge an official complaint against my legs. Maybe it was the combination of sidewalks and flat shoes that did it. I’ll have to experiment with more walking here in the neighborhood before the cicadas descend on us. I am so not going to crunch them underfoot.

    I wore a handkerchief-silk campshirt and lightweight tan rayon linen-look pants. The shirt is a lovely print, subtle mauve, celery, tan and salmon. It’s my favorite top (actually the only one that fits and isn’t a tee-shirt). I looked smashing, if I do say so myself.

    I’m beginning to think nobody over 50 wears color any more. Black pants everywhere, even with black jackets, and it was already 80° out.

    Housefinch and Pipsqueak are back! And a cardinal is pecking birdseed off a slice of bread on the other side of the slider. I put the seed on the bread both because I hate to hear the beaks hit plastic and because I hate to waste the bread when they don’t eat it.

    it was 74 when I went in to work. There was a fire drill at 11:20, so everyone had to troop out (I just took my stuff with me), which was rally not amusing. anyway, now it is 46. Since 7 am, it has dropped 30 degrees. wtf
