Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

55 this morning, headed for a high of 70 or 74, depending on which weather app you believe.

Off to a short hike & fossil hunting for me this weekend. How about you?

the high sixties. Had a lot to do this past week so am hoping to do something different this weekend.  Tomorrow planning to watch a horseshoe crab mating ritual, whatever that might be,  and Sunday, birds. Today have lots of boring stuff to do. Hope it’s a good start to the weekend throughout Moosesylvania.

  3. 54 degrees in Madison with an expected high of 82. Sunny.

It is the last business day of May but thankfully tomorrow is the last official day of May giving me another day to try to get May things done in May. I expect it will not help one bit as I will be distracted by shiny objects on the Internet.

    Like these!!

First, the NFL team in Washington, and their PR guy Frank Luntz, is trying to make people angry at Harry Reid because he has mentioned that the racist name that they have should be changed. So they started a Twitter Hash #RedskinPride and asked their fans to Tweet @SenatorReid about why they love their team.

    Washington Redskins @Redskins

Tweet @SenatorReid to show your #RedskinsPride and tell him what the team means to you.

The results were not exactly what they expected. Here is a link to a sample (I won’t embed because the image is best viewed on a different tab).

Second, if I could fix just one historical branding problem, I would fix the one where the current Republican Party is allowed to declare themselves the Party of Lincoln and claim as their heritage the history of that party all the while calling out Democrats for their “awful history”. Southern Democrats had an awful history … and they became Republicans not to embrace the policies of the Party of Lincoln but to reject the modern Democratic Party’s full-throated support for civil rights. Every time I hear Reince Priebus say this I want to scream:

RNC chairman Reince Priebus, invoking the legacy of abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass, asked a question at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans that many prominent Republicans have asked in recent years: Why does the party of Abraham Lincoln not get more credit as the party of tolerance?

“We’re the party of freedom and we’re the party of opportunity and we’re the party of equality, we’re the ones with that history,” Priebus said in his speech Thursday. “It’s the other side that has a shameful history”

    ARGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Okay, off to work for me. Have a great day, all y’alls!!

no more than 20% chance today & tomorrow, then none after that – and temps to the June normal of mid-90s right on schedule

At work – I have a doc appointment this afternoon. My supervisor & I talked yesterday & today I’m doing all the e-mail so I don’t have to try to talk. While I’m at the doc’s I’ll talk about the insomnia, maybe they have the sleep test thing so I can do that. The app on my iPod shows a comnpletely different sleep pattern than the FitBit did. I don’t inderstand how something that’s under my pillow – not touching me – knows if I’m sleeping.

Oh, we’re getting upgraded to Windows 7 over the weekend. Grrr.

and basically I can’t think about much else except the baby that is being born even as I write. Daughter-in-law and son went to the hospital at 7 a.m. and the C-section began at 9 a.m.

Miss Pink Cheeks spent the night with us of course, and Grandpa is just driving her to her last day of day care. Three of the little ones are “graduating” today. Yesterday she helped me cut some thyme, parsley, and mint to use in the dinner, and she also stirred the batter for the blueberry cobbler. We had meatloaf, roast potatoes, and green peas cooked the French way with butter, salt, lettuce, and fresh mint.

Hoping our son will text us to say how things went and that we can hotfoot it to the hospital to see mother and baby.

Have a good Friday and weekend, meese!

I just dropped Grey off at the vet to get snipped and claws clipped (and finish the exam – we haven’t a clue as to his age other than “adult” since the other vet decided not to force the issue when Grey objected to having his mouth opened).  The person who takes FIV+ cats did call me back.  She’s at close to maximum and would prefer I keep her a the “fallback” if the boys don’t/won’t integrate but she will take him in July if necessary.  She seemed surprised I’d want her to – she said, “People don’t choose cats.  Cats choose people.  And he obviously chose you.”  But I’d have to get him snipped anyway as she won’t take any “unaltered” cats.

Meanwhile my home phone (no cell, landline only) went out Tuesday but is apparently the house wiring (AT&T ran the check on their side of the box and said no problem).  So.  I’ve got the guy who does maintenance work for me coming to look at it today.  I’m devoutly hoping I do not have to deal with the issue of phone service/internet service just yet.

Moosylvanians please  have a wonderful Friday and lovely weekend.

He arrived at 9:39 a.m. today and has lots of dark hair! We’re going to see him as soon as we’re allowed. He’s the first boy in this generation–we have four little princesses in Australia and one here, his big sister.

Bfitz in AR, hope you can get your telephone problems resolved. There’s nothing as annoying as having such an essential service refuse to work.

    (Waving) Later!
