Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

 photo Monday3_zpsc08d979e.jpg

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

A glorious weekend here; I hiked 17.5 miles between the two days. I’m not ready to go.back inside!

63 degrees, heading for a high of 86 here in the beeoootiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

  2. 65 degrees here, expected high of 80. A noisy storm came through at around 2am waking everyone up. NOT the best way to start the week.

Busy day here, only time for a quick scan of the news.

As a wordie, the use of the word “notion” really grated on me:

[Florida Senator Marco] Rubio flew his climate denier denier flag high and proud, stating that, “I don’t agree with the notion that some are putting out there, including scientists, that somehow, there are actions we can take today that would actually have an impact on what’s happening in our climate.

I suspect that having it grate on a librul is exactly what he had in mind because that will play well with his base. But for a guy whose base lives on a peninsula, he is being a little shortsighted:

“There is an imminent threat of increased inland flooding during heavy rain events in low-lying coastal areas such as southeast Florida, where just inches of sea level rise will impair the capacity of stormwater drainage systems to empty into the ocean,” the National Climate Assessment report says. “Drainage problems are already being experienced in many locations during seasonal high tides, heavy rains, and storm surge events.”

Scientists have previously declared that the city of Miami is “doomed” and that it’s “not a question of if. It’s a question of when.”

p.s. Washington DC is in a coastal area also.

Have a great day, all y’alls!!

49 heading to 84 here in the Hudson Valley.

Heading to school today to collect final exam papers from the students who show up – had a flurry of emails yesterday from students who have to attend “funerals” today. Sigh.

As per the syllabus I let them know- send me a funeral program or mass card along with hard copy of paper (registered mail) and email the paper that they should have completed – today.

Am sleepy – was up late dealing with a troll/denial/derailing invasion on Sunday at orange.

Sigh again.  I think I’m going to write a refresher post for Tuesday on “Derailing for Dummies” to remind us how to deal with this phenomena that occurs anytime someone tries to talk about racism, sexism, homophobism etc.

On that note – need more coffee.

80s in this coastal area. Have a lot of work to do this week and am not sure there is enough coffee to get me through.

Just saw on the internet that Boko Haram is offering to release those poor girls in exchange for prisoners. Don’t know if it;s true

Can’t even begin to imagine the fear, anxiety and terror.

Eating breakfast & drinking tea. Once again they say it’ll rain today. I believe them enough that I didn’t try riding my bike to work. Timewise, it would have worked, I was enough ahead this morning that I could have. We’ll see how Wednesday goes.

Our associate who was removed from ordination track then reinstated has her interviews to go on to the next stage tomorrow. 3 panels, 7 to 9 people on each one. But they will let her know by the end of the day. We took a picture in the sanctuary a couple of weeks ago, with a banner saying #StandWithMaryAnn – there were at least 250 of us. It’ll break my heart if they don’t pass her.

although the sky is covered with white cloud at the moment. Going for a high of 85 today. Hope to get out to put berry fertilizer mixed with potting soil around the blueberry and blackberry plants. The raspberries and strawberries don’t appear to need it.

Yesterday we had absolutely perfect weather for Mother’s Day. It was a very pleasant day, devoted to personal care and followed by dinner out in the evening. Although the food was delicious the restaurant’s lighting was so dark and depressing that I refused coffee and dessert–just couldn’t wait to get out of there, back into the light. I do wish restaurants would have proper lighting:  it’s not as if this one were catering to romance. It was full of families, including wailing infants. Oh, well.

Today, hope to paint the porch furniture white, wash the porch cushions, and buy dogfood for that dreadful little dog. He behaves like a puppy! Surely, at almost three human years of age, he should have stopped chewing things by now. He chewed up the handle of his grooming brush and has started work on the discarded plastic planters.

Hope everyone in Moosylvania will have a good day!

Hi All – my younger son called me for Mother’s Day and my older son (who’s manager of a pizza store here in Fayetteville) made me a gluen-free onion, mushroom, black olive, and Italian sausage pizza.  My boy knows what his mom likes!  Off and on cloudy yesterday – too “on” for me to take a walk in case I had to pull my clothes off the line but “off” enough my PV system generated 9.4 KW.

We started today mid-70s-slightly overcast and basically expect to be here all day.  QC meeting tonight but only one committee – the other “canceled for lack of agenda” – so hopefully shouldn’t be late.  Relatively quiet at work.  Intersession classes started (4 hours a day for 10 days = 3 credit hours) but I’ve only got 3 faculty willing to do it.  Still getting the occasional call from students needing enrollment help.  That won’t pick up again until open enrollment for Summer Session 1 next week.  Can’t finish summer payroll until I get authorization on some grad assistants and we know whether or not all the summer classes “make”.  Sigh.  Hope everyone has a great day!

Yesterday was such a nice day…..visiting with my daughters via ext and phone, time in the garden with Ron, a family dinner at our son’s house.

I’ll go to the pool his morning, and now that I’ve finally been able to be in the garden I’ve got a plan for the large pots I enjoy planting  so a trip to the garden shop may happen this afternoon. Gardening in flip flops seems risky but it’s that or muddy slippers. Broken toes are a nuisance!
