Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

 photo Monday2_zps83ab71bd.jpg

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. Congratulations! We’ve almost survived 2013.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Once again, temps actually dropping. Daytime high supposed to be 41.

One day of work, then two days off again. Today will be a little pointless, but I can live with that. Just hoping it doesn’t drag.

  2. It is a balmy -10 here right now on its way up to a blistering 9. The good news is that there is no wind so it only feels like -10. The bad news is that -10 is darned cold!!

I am dragging today and need to get motivated to work. Last week, while I was waiting to hear from a client who did not get back to me, I got my 2013 year-end accounting caught up including a quick pass at my taxes. So I am ready for 2014 … bring it on, as they say.

Thanks for the kittens! I take your box of kittens and raise you a kitten and a dog:

forty three here but temperatures will be dropping. Went to see, for the thousandth time, a Medieval drama, The Play of Daniel. By now, I could probably sing everyone’s part. It’s very early 13th century and I tend to see it every year at this very time of year. Have even seen some of the performers age!

And what is going on with those explosions in Russia? OMG.

Hope it’s a good day for all.

Brrrr!!! Yesterday, I could have worn sandals to church (didn’t because by the time I realized that, I had on tights & shoes); today it is 35 outside. Have I mentioned that I hate winter?

Wow, that alarm was early. Especially after a not-great night’s sleep. I thought just the little quilt would still do, I was wrong. Big cover goes on for tonight. Last night, I was just uncomfortable enough to not sleep well, but not enough to really wake up & put something else on or get more cover.

Getting an early start on the New Year’s Day food – my lunch for the week is a kale soup with black eyed peas.

Requested The Idolatry of God: Breaking Our Addiction to Certainty and Satisfaction because yesterday at church, my pastor mentioned one of the author’s things is how God has traditionally been approached as a product that will render us complete, remove our suffering, and reveal the answers – and that’s just wrong. Nothing like starting the new year off with a little light reading.

already. It’s a gray, dampish morning. Have got Miss Pink Cheeks off to day care, Dearly is working at the airport, I’m home alone with Monty Beagle. It’s a bit chilly in the house, so will turn up the heat in a minute.

Had a restful weekend, which included figuring out a way to keep the dog from waking us at 5 a.m. As a result, have enjoyed two nights of blissful sleep. Still haven’t got it together to go to the gym, because of today’s “shoulds”: I should answer the e-mails I didn’t answer this weekend. I should go to the garage and look for the photos my daughter wants me to find.

On the plus side, I’ve almost caught up with writing in my journal, and last night I talked for an hour and a half with someone I haven’t seen, in, oh, 52 years. We had a good chat, talking about our very different lives. She taught English in California high schools for 50 years, then moved back to Arkansas when she retired as the cost of living there is much less.

She’s promised to call again.  Am I weird for seeking out people I used to know long ago in Little Rock? Two of them have died, alas. One lives three hours away from me in Waynesboro, Virginia. She put her maiden name as well as her married name on Facebook, which is how I found her. Is this urge to reconnect just because I’m getting old? I wonder. I’ve always liked to know what came afterwards.

I’m back to the Mon, Wed, Fri 9:00 am PT pool schedule….finally! It’s going to take a while to build some stamina again but I’m looking forward to the exercise. All the laying around “resting” I’ve had to do is getting on my last nerve.

My brain might even come out of hibernation 🙂
